    This is a pretty late comment. I've had my Brusho stashed away for awhile and decided to watch some videos before playing with it again. On Joanne Boon Thomas' site, I found that she keeps a spray bottle of 70% water/30% bleach for special effects AND to lighten/remove areas of Brusho. It seemed to work well. She also showed a picture in her studio that she did with Brusho 10-15 years ago that is as vibrant as the day she painted it. Of course, NO painting should be in direct sun...
    Keep up the good work!!

    Great video! The brusho really makes the flower pop out. FWIW, I actually really like the brusho on the lower left corner. It makes a nice soft edge.
    I also live in Colorado. One thing I do when I need to paint a large area wet-on-wet is I put lots of water down on the paper, let it soak in for 10-15 minutes, then re-apply the water. Obviously it makes the painting process take longer, but at least the paper isn't so thirsty which helps give you more time to paint on wet paper. Hope that technique helps!

    Brushos are fun to use on the gel plate using a light water based ink first then sprinkling or splashing Brusho colors and spritzing with water before taking a print.

    I have the same set! I have used it only in very abstract landscapes…which isn’t even my preferred subject. So, that said, my Brusho hasn’t had a lot of love in my studio. I really like the background idea-I could see that working well. The other hurdle I have with the Brusho is it’s dye based ingredients. The colors in dyes (to me) are always just a little too intense. Maybe if I tried again & did a Brusho background first on something I typically enjoy painting (birds, animals, flowers), then I just might fall in love with Brusho again. Thanks Emily!😁

    We have experimented with brusho in mu art group and had some brilliant results. We did an exercise where we created backgrounds then painted/ penned a silhouette over the top which worked well. Glad you had fun with it, enjoy continuing your experimenting x

    Woo-hoo, that looks fun! Thanks for the close up look and the explanation. I had heard Brusho mentioned previously but was envisioning it being like a "colored salt". Lol.
    Loved your iris flower either way. The before painting had a classically elegant feel to me, which was beautiful. But the after painting was like a garden party!

    Great instruction Emily, love that you constantly question yourself. I have seen less talented TH-cam artists who come across as the best, no humility. Being able to admit your doubts and fears, admitting you make mistakes is so refreshing especially in one as accomplished as you. Thank you so much.
    I ordered a small selection of brusho months ago, did some Christmas cards but you have inspired me to😊 dust them them off and use them in backgrounds, landscapes, wish me luck!

    After watching several videos on Brusho, I ordered a pack of 6, which cost $40+. I was disappointed. The colors did not have 2, or 3 different pigments. The yellow was yellow, orange was orange, etc. but the real issue, and why I returned it, it is a dust consistency. Im asthmatic, and had issues asap. I have this should be emphasized. And to answer someone else’s question, YES, you can get the same and better effect with granulated watercolors.

    Have you tried the super granulating watercolors and how would you compare Brusho to the super granulating watercolors?

    • @EmilyOlsonArt
      @EmilyOlsonArt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The super granulating watercolors are really just mixed pigment colors that granulate, so they do have that cool separating effect with water. They are still very different from Brusho, since it's in crystal form and does this "color explosion" thing that watercolors (even highly granulating ones) cannot replicate. :)

      @lizbethy3214 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EmilyOlsonArt well I definitely want to try them! Looks like it's skill, luck and serendipity using Brusho, and watercolor is it's own kind of serendipity so it's a double dose of fireworks on paper, an aurora borealis at your fingertips!

    I prefer your beautiful painting before the brusho. It is experimental so glad you showed us your brusho technique but it kind of messed up the flower. Obscured the leaves. How did you feel about it? I have some and it is fun but high risk for ruining a painting.
