  • Watch the process as I make a Packing Tape Ghost to haunt my yard for Halloween. I got Sally (the mannequin) at a place called Mannequin Madness - they are not a sponsor, but Their shop is really cool and I'll be using them in the future for sure. Check them out on instagram: @mannequinMadness
    I took your suggestions! Check out the update video to this ghost here: • Packing Tape Ghost Upd...

    Some ideas that popped into my brain as I watched...
    .
    - When using the cling wrap, fold it into strips, and lay them in a herringbone pattern. Then go for a single layer of "messy, crumpled" wrap to break up the pattern.
    - When applying the tape, crease every strip, and lay them out as you were doing near the end, as if it were a dress. This, and the above step, will give the final result a lot more structural integrity. You could also get some thin modeling wire and use it sparingly in areas that will need extra strength. Should be invisible for the most part. That way you can use less wrap and less tape overall, and get an even more transparent look.
    - Try spraying it with a non-solvent lubricant. Something light and thin, and reasonably slick. Should make it require fewer cuts to get it off of the form.
    - Take some glow-in-the-dark bits of whatever, and put them in the "eyes". They'll soak up UV during the day, and glow for a few hours after sundown.
    - See if you can lightly spray it with a blue-green transparent coloring of some kind. Will make it look more ethereal.
    - Paint the stand a slightly darker than light gray. Not quite a medium gray. Too light, and it'll stand out at night...too dark and it'll stand out during the day. But the right shade of gray in the build will cause the eye to ignore it compared to everything else.
    - Shred the plastic strips at the ends (about halfway up in most cases) thoroughly, so they look like they're tattered remains.
    - Attach a little "shelf" to the stand, at about waist level, so you can reach up inside and place a small bowl/cup of water with a chunk of dry ice in it. Do it just after sunset, and there should be a thin little cloud trailing out underneath the "ghost" for a few hours. Might have to cover it, and put some kind of short transparent hose hanging down to make sure it doesn't dissipate too quickly before reaching the ground.

    I make 5-10 of these to add to my yard every year. They are pretty quick and easy to do, provided you have a mannequin. I use painters drop cloth for the clothes because its really cheap and just a little more transparent, but instead of cutting it, I tear it into the shapes I want and it gives a real aged, ragged look as the clothes are blowing in the wind

      @@ImNotBoredImCreative What's the best way to cut the packing tape off an object? I taped a styrofoam ball the other day using the method shown in the video -- maybe 4-5 layers and it was such a PITA trying to get the tape off -- and I did damage the foam a bit cutting into it trying to get the tape off. Also, when you are taping up something, how do you know how many layers of tape are on it? I lost track lol.

I’d never do it that way again. Fortunately, I got out unscathed and now have a beautiful display and I’ve had her about 5 years.

    Ha, maybe too early to mention, unless someone would want to get a head start on making something for Dec, but this could probably work as an "ice sculpture" for winter/Christmas time, too. You could use any hard plastic decoration as a form to make the clear plastic copies from, or if you don't have that or a mannequin, you could use chicken wire to form your own shape. Snowmen, candy canes, nutcrackers, or whatever. Eh, could even paint the inside with translucent colours and/or put lights inside for different looks.

    • @reesaserik3759
      @reesaserik3759 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, in some places you can not have anything nice. One neighboring town (thank goodness it is across a river and the culprits do not have vehicles and do not drive), it is really bad. I was talking to a man that ran a lawn service. They have to build cages over their flatbed trailer, that houses the equipment, and the cage has to stay locked at all times, even when they are at an address working. In one area it is so bad, he said he was weed eating, and set down the weed eater to remove some trash in the yard. A thug, literally ran into the yard, grabbed the weed eater as he ran through, and kept going -- passed so close to the gardener he 'felt' him as he went by. That blew my mind. He said they also have to build cages over HVAC units at houses. The thugs rip the copper components right out of them. This is what happens when drugs prevail (I say this because most of the culprits are drug addicts stealing for drug money) and the law becomes so lax it become ineffective. I say this because a lot of the 'judges' in that county are, literally, drug addicts that get the drug community to vote them into office and then they throw the drug cases out of court or release the criminals with a warning. It is that corrupt now. So, no nice yard decorations for the decent people in that city. Nothing in the yard, period. They even have a problem with people going right into their yard and ripping plants out of the ground. If they like the plant and want it they take it then go plant it in their own yard, or their parents yard. It is insane.

      That’s really sad, you should get motion activated sprinklers to deter them, plus cameras
