    - Trying to do too much in a short amount of time. Example: 10 cities in 3 weeks! For me, 1 week = 1-2 cities.
    - Just sightseeing and eating.
    - Only visiting famous tourist areas.
    - Not befriending locals and other travelers.

    A common mistake I'm almost always in danger of making is killing time on my phone on layovers or before boarding (without being able to plug in) and then being dangerously close to a dead battery when I arrive. I always have my tickets/hotels/directions saved on my phone, but it'd be useless if my phone is dead.

      Put your phone into 'Airplane' mode to save your battery power.

    Great tips, Sonia! So simple but they'll save a lot of people a lot of time and hassle! Especially the visa one. I had a friend once who thought that since he was only going to China for the weekend that he didn't need a visa...umm nope! Luckily he was able to expedite the visa service, but otherwise it would've been a very sad rejection at the airport!

    One thing I dislike is when people souvenir shop instead of actually sight seeing... I understand the need for it--I Iove shopping--but GO and explore and take advantage of being there first, and then.... afterwards you can go buy some things. :)

    As someone who travels 200 times a year one Cardinal mistake I see people make is that they don't select a seat when they book their ticket and end up not flying because the flight is oversold

    Hi Sonia! I have a couple of suggestions:
    1. How to pack for a trip with different stops that include different climates (e.g. I'm doing a whole US trip in November which includes stopovers in Vegas and Boston)
    2. What to pack when you come home from a year abroad, how to bring everything home etc
    And thanks Sonia for all of your videos! You are making my life sooooo much easier.

    I'd say that a big mistake that people often don't even think about is leaving valuables in the luggage instead of with themselves and the luggage for some reason doesn't arrive the other end and the person is left without their stuff. It happened to my cousin and its not nice..

    The most common mistake that I see lots of people do is not checking the rules for the carry-on you bring with you in the cabin. Man, it drives me so craaazyyyy that I have to stand in line at security check, waiting for someone who has a giant bag, or full sized toiletries, or sharp objects like scissors and kitchen knives ecc...

    • @AnneHoA
      @AnneHoA 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Taking of your shoes depends on the shoes! While travelling with my scouting group, obviously wearing hiking boots, we had to take of our shoes because they contain metal, but most shoes don't :)

    • @tracybzowy2486
      @tracybzowy2486 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CreativA Rouge Lips going from Canada to USA and back home again they make us take all shoes off (but of course not all countries require this). They are just starting to get lax on it and allowing you to leave non-metal shoes to be kept on. A lot of cheap shoes do have metal in them, sandals and ballet flats.

    • @RedLipsPR
      @RedLipsPR 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      They usually get more picky about it in the USA. But I always travel in running shoes anyways so I don't have a problem with the metal detector. XD

    I've never traveled by myself and I'm kind of freaking out about it. And by kind of, I mean definitely. :) I'm taking a month long trip to Utah next month and I'm really nervous. I know you did a video about the benefits of traveling by yourself, but can you do a video about getting over the nervousness of getting through the entire process from checking in and finally arriving at your destination?

    Thank you so much for your travel tip's. I'm from Townsville North Queensland Australia and have actually have travelled a bit but in the past have always used my backpack, lately I have started to use a small suitcase but was finding it difficult to transition with travelling styles. I'm now heading off to Japan for 3 weeks in 3 days and still have a small roller case/bag I'm able to fit everything in better and am using packing cubes and in case I need a heavier jacket I have now found and brought the roller seal bags to make it smaller. I still have plenty of room in case I buy something and plan on buying a regular suitcase with your tips for the return trip home. ( For the extra shopping ) So again thanks for making my life a lot easier while travelling.

    I haven't traveled in years so #1 on your list I have a question about. If I do online check-in for my flight the day before and pay my checked bags fees online do I print a luggage tag? Or when I get to the airport(Laguardia in NY) do I have to obtain tags?

    Firstly thank you for all your wonderful tips. I assume that this information is for overseas travel. I live in Australia and some are still valid from here. When I book my flights, travel insurance, hotels, I do it all on-line. Then your tickets, etc confirmations 'should' be sent to you by e-mail. Most will send you a PDF copy. Download the PDFs and save them to your 'Travel' folder on your computer, then you can put them onto your SD card for your mobile phone/tablet, then all you have to do is open the documents and voila, they're there, happy faces all around. Don't rely on Dropbox to keep your documents in. It needs internet access, so if you save them to Dropbox, copy and paste to your 'My Docs' folder on your phone/tablet. Over packing & Visa requirements are very valid comments. Phone plans are a different kettle of fish, it all depends on where you're going. If you have a phone that's 'locked' to your home network, when you arrive at your destination you can purchase a cheap phone for the country you are in. In some cases, you may need a 'local' phone number for your bookings, so pre purchasing a SIM card may be better, then you can quote it in your booking. My overseas travels, are usually around 12 weeks. I usually make up a diary and have the booking information for each leg of travel and hotel in the diary. It also has the train/bus timetables from home to the airport and from the airport to the first accommodation I will be staying in, and the return journeys. I know I'm a 'control freak' when it comes to having information at hand, but it's best to do so and not have to worry when you don't have access to the internet at the airport, etc to look up your information.

      ATMs are one of the most expensive ways to exchange money, the best you get by selling your currency if you have US dollars or Euros in the foreign country, but it all depends on the country you live in and the country you are travelling to, so it is always better to just calculate all the options and choose.

    Hi I had a question actually so my question is can you take makeup in your luggage the one you take with you inside the plane and is that luggage considered carry on or if you take a bookbag considered the carry on and is there any restrictions if you take your makeup in the luggage instead of the bookbag

    • @tracybzowy2486
      @tracybzowy2486 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vicki Moran Whatever you bring inside the cabin of the plane is called carry on. It could be a plastic grocery/garbage bag or cardboard box, bookbag or luggage. No matter what bag you put your makeup in it will have to meet the restrictions. Dylan mentioned the 311 rule and other things that are correct. Remember powders, eyeshadows, blushes are not part of the 311 restriction but liquid foundation, lip gloss etc is..

    I prefer to travel by myself, but I will travel with family and friends every now and then. I'd have to compromise because they all want to do different things. When we have one rental car, for example, it could be a headache. As a driver: I can't find them, they don't show up on time because of weather, traffic, they want to change plans, or not familiar with local. It's so much easier to just travel by train so that I don't have to deal with it, but then again it might be unsafe, especially with pick pockets, drunk people at night, etc..May you do a video on how to do the pre-planning and how to organize trips with say 4-5people? I typically do a lot of research, and I have to consider who I travel with. Thank you very much, and I love your videos!

I look forward to your vlogs every week. :) So, one of the things that I totally don't get when traveling overseas is how to keep in touch and manage a data plan. Yes, I know every provider has an international plan you can sign up for, and there are apps like Skype on which you can avoid data usage, but I don't understand, for instance, how much data I would use to check Google Maps to see if I'm going the right way, or post a quick photo on Instagram, etc. Can you produce a vlog on this topic?

    Hi Sonia,
    First, I'd just like to say that I've recently started watching your videos and find them a real inspiration and they're part of the reason that I've got a one way ticket booked to Venezuela in a few months time.
    I'll be staying there for 2 months to teach English (and hopefully improve my Spanish) and will be situated in the city of Merida with a couple of transits where I'll have to stay overnight in Caracas. Afterwards I plan to tour South America and teach English elsewhere.
    The more I research the country the more bad press I see on how unbelievably dangerous it is (especially Caracas). Is this really true? Or is it one of those things that is blown up by the media and if common sense is applied I should be fine?
    I understand that you're very busy but I figured it's worth trying to get a bit of inside info from somebody that is actually from the country.
    Thanks very much!

    Can you make a video about the different ways to travel between countries in Europe? Like flying, train, etc. I'm going to London and Paris next year an I'm worried about getting from place to place using the trains or plane or bus. It all seems confusing. Thanks!! Love your videos!

    • @vangrails
      @vangrails 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shanna Weaver About what exactly are you confused? Travelling between London and Paris is very easy with the high speed train (the Eurostar). You can fly to London and leave from Paris by plane (open jaw flying). Booking this train early is much cheaper. Gare du Nord (the Eurostar train station in Paris) is a pickpocketing hotspot so be prepared.
      Do you also want to visit other places than London and Paris?
      www.seat61.com and www.bahn.com provide a lot of information about travelling by train in Europe.
      France is part of the Schengen area and the UK isn't, so take that into account when it comes to visa.

    Also, ...
    1. Don't take shoes or other clothes that aren't broken in.
    2. When you get on a train, make sure you are on a car (carriage) that is going to the same destination you are. Some trains carry cars that get split off to go to other places.
    3. Learn how to order coffee in Europe. Just do. It's really not that hard.

    Preparing your phone for travel is something that needs to be done. I used to work for a cell phone carrier as a customer service rep and I would see those high bills. I remember a co worker told me about a where the person went to Europe for six months and did not get any type of global plan and revived a $5000 bill as a result.

    Over packing is definitely the worst. I don't get why some people bring so many damn clothes on holiday! I just take a change of underwear, jeans and shirts. If I need anything else I most likely buy it there. Best to carry nothing and bring back loads of goodies!

    My friend and I missed our flight. I don't know what happened and why but what got stuck in our minds as our flight time for 21:00 was 11:00 pm so we came to check in our bags at 8:00 pm. Sadly, the counters were already closed. To think that we booked that flight 10 months prior.

      ALWAYS check your tickets when you get them. Most online tickets purchased are sent to you by e-mail and are in PDF format. There is a program called 'Cute PDF Editor' which can add text to PDF documents (unless they are secured with a password), and then you can save them. I would suggest using this program to put notes onto your tickets with the AM/PM times on them.

    u forgot the most important one to me:
    DON'T STAY IN THE RESORT THE WHOLE VACATION, traveling is about exploring and doing adventurous things while seeing new places, not about being at a pool or in a hotel the whole time that's a big waste of money

  • @jasperdiscovers

    #6 avoid paying with creditcards whereever possible.
    #7 check your bank how much withdrawing money from an ATM costs in the country you're visiting
    #8 buy a local sim card (Lycamobile for example). Saves a TON on roaming costs
    #9 always read the 3-star reviews of the hotel you're staying in. People who give 3/5 tend to have more honest reviews
    #10 don't book your hotel through anything else than either directly on their website or through a big hotel reseller like booking.com or hostelworld and always check for SSL security when making your booking!
    #11 always make a COPY of your ID and stick that with you. Leave your passport in the hotel, in a safe and don't share the code with anyone.
    #12 make a fake wallet with some small bills and a fake, expired card. If you get robbed, throw the fake wallet at them and they'll probably be happy.
    #13 demand Sonia to travel more.

    I really like your video's and you come off as a super nice person. That's why I want to give you a little feedback: even though you mean really well, sometimes the tone of your advice/tips comes off a little too "know it all"/arrogant. I can definitely see you are not that kind of person so it's more the tone than your body language. If this is feedback that resonates with your own perspective I would suggest adopting a little more caring tone because I know you are just trying to help (and be entertaining at it :-)). If you don't see it this way at all please feel free to ignore it. Love from Holland!

      Really? I have never gotten that feeling from any of Sonia's videos. Even in this video she said that she made some of these mistakes herself.

      EnterpriseMe TV I don't agree at all. Sonia has opinions and suggestions, but has never come across as "know it all." Maybe it's a cultural thing. Hmm... Sonia, keep rockin' it!

      EnterpriseMe TV Must be the cultural difference between the Americans and the Dutch. Being a fellow American, I don't sense any of your perceived notion of arrogance in Sonia's vlogs. She's showing a big of frustration in this video because Sonia is trying to point out the repeated mistakes that travelers make over and over again! Unless you decided to make your own travel advice videos on TH-cam, you should go watch a Dutch travel vlog or just simply shut the fuck up! Love from the USA!
