Thank you for this really thoughtful review. You covered some things that others have not, namely the capacity and fit with a hardcover A5. Since Leuchtturm 1917 is my notebook of choice, I think I'm going to opt for the A5 notebook cover instead of the folio, and a pen case instead. Thank you for helping me make the right choice!
Terrific review, Michael! This folio is a winner. I especially like how you showed the different ways it can be used. Not a cheap item but it looks to be worth every penny and is something that can be used for many, many years.

I think it's quite silly that it was designed for the Leuchtturm but cannot really fit the Leuchtturm with fountain pens! Edit: I ordered one and it does stretch well enough, but if you don't want the front of your notebook dented you have to turn the pen clips to the side.
This product appeals to me on an aesthetic level but I keep seeing comments about the elastics eventually giving out, and the difficulty to zip it closed once you've filled it. I'd take the key holder out, lest it scratch up my pens.
Brilliant review. I got the fountain pen day special one with the crazy horse Blue and everything you say in this video is true. Any kind of ‘normal’ book just makes it too thick and puts stress on the seams and zippers. I’m going to follow your example and get one of those #16 Rhodia pads for mine. 🙂👍🏻

Can a thicker A5 notebook work if the 4 pen holder is removed?
Could you fold that left half behind, for example like if I were to write on my lap in a meeting? Instead of having it open like a book. excellent video!
Excellent review. I just got the CH Green version of this folio and noticed the same issues with thickness when stuffed with a Rhodia webby and/or the 4-pen holder. I prefer the webby, but may have to go with a notepad instead.
Otherwise, I love it.

Will the Thinkers Notebook fit in this?
If Galen would add a half inch to the depth, so many problems would be solved right there.

Thanks for the review! It really answered a lot of questions I had about this folio. I have a couple questions though: does a field notes sized notebook fit in that top pocket on the left side? And do you find that the zipper bothers your wrist as you write on the notepad?
Sorry for the delay in replying... I needed to be in front of the folio as I haven't tried putting a field notes in there... I have now and yes, it does fit... just. Width is about right, height you will need to fold the zip back to place it in and take it out. As for the zip when you write... I'm a leftie so I wasn't sure. I just spent some time writing with my right hand in it, and yes, you can feel the zip, but I don't think it would be too much of an issue. The zip is not sharp, but it does rub, especially around the bottom right corner. I wouldn't say that it would be a huge problem.

Hello! Could you tell what is the length of pens that you used in this review? They look shorter than ordinary pens
They are all standard length pens. The Lamy 2000 is 139mm and the Pilot Custom 823 is 148mm for example.

Richard Sumilang the brown is amazing. They’re generally pretty quick for ‘made to order’ but due to the pandemic I think its taking a few days longer at the moment.
Are there any similar products to this that are cheaper? I couldn’t find any
purchasing any item from Galen Leather please make sure you are aware of the shipping costs. Despite my invoice including the cost of shipping, the delivery company UPS requested a further £30 English pounds before I was allowed my parcel. Make sure you make enquiries before purchasing! I was advised by Yusuf that this is mentioned on their website. Clearly I had missed that section. I advise you to be careful. The product I purchased is lovely. It is a shame that it has been ruined for me paying a lot more money than expected. I will make it my mission to ensure that everyone is aware on all social platforms. I know I can’t be the first to suffer from this!
I bought Galen leather three pen case. It’s well made but it was advertised that it takes Oversize pens and it can’t fit 149 or KOP. So that’s money wasted. With customs and shipping it came to £70. I wish I would get Visconti pen case for this money. 😒
You can stretch the loop by sticking an appropriate girthed rod and leaving it over night. Or two. More recent orders seem to have included this wooden rod with every pen case purchase.
