Gosh the nostalgia that this RC brings back to me. I remember walking into a hobbytown with my brother and sister. My brother was about to get his first RC, and next thing you know, we walk out of the hobby shop with a traxxas bandit. This was the RC that started it all for us both. I'll most likely rebuild this thing soon. I kinda miss it 🥲.

My son raced this at Thornhill on the big 1/8 dirt track for months while learning the hobby. I put GTR shocks on it and Holeshot 2wd buggy tires, ballast in the front, and an upgraded steering servo, and he was able to run it pretty well! Great way to start the hobby. Now we have it set up for Astro turf and there it runs very well.

I did the same thing my bandit really rips!!!! Top speed so far I hit was 60 on a speed run the lipo I'm running on is the ho vo 3s with the vinlioeon system & I gotta get new road tires question what do you all recommend cuz my current ones I'm using is the anacondas personally I think they suck they wear out fast & makes my bandit look haggard also make sure he adds a wheelie bar & yes mine tends to lift a little when I do my drag runs also it flips alot

  • @Nickwillfixit

Loosen the slipper clutch a couple of turns so it slips a bit and ramps in instead of launching and lifting, it will also be helpful on a surface that is mud or dusty loose surfaces. Tighten the spring preload to limit the chassis slap wont stop unless you change the fluid or and springs to thicker fluid or and stiffer springs.
I have seen this race up against proper 1/10th race vehicles from all the brands and make the podium with just a gearing change and shock springs and fluid change by half a weight.

Was buying a Bandit, after this video and figured for another $125 I have a VXL. If I didn't like it I would put the brushless into one of my other dozen Traxxas. Put a wheelie bar on and replaced the bald stock tires with new (3S will do that). FAST, FAST, FAST. Trying paddle tires at the beach next. Thanks for a great video pard...

The Bandit VXL is the first brushless setup I got. It is still one of my favorite cars for all purpose general driving. I would agree with you on the heavier shock oil. I run 50 all around and have the big bore shocks as well.. it tends to bring the ride height up but also helps with the chassis slapping.

I’ve recently bought one 2 months ago and that thing is a freakin rocket even without the speed pinion gear in it with a 2s lipo. It’s definitely worth it and I got a really good price for it when I bought the very last one at my local hobby shop for $279! The time I bought it, I heard they’re going to raise up the prices on most Traxxas rc vehicles which sucks, but man I got lucky I bought the last one.

I had bought a couple of these for my kid. One of them got converted to a Rustler & the other I wound up putting the ESC from my Arrma Typhon 6S & a 2900Kv motor, M1 gears (16/36). I also put the hoons that came with my Limitless. With a 3S battery, it hit 53mph, not bad for low gearing. It's not a bad car, but the rustler is built a bit better. But like i have said in the past, for about the same $, you can get a much better car going with Arrma. I believe the Typhon 3S is also in the $300sh range & is built way more solid.

Before the pandemic it was easy to find the brushed version rtr Bandit for $149. The it went to $169 and now it's $189. There are Traxxas Bandit Classes in a lot places in the country. It is probably the best starter r/c car around. It's durable, parts are easily found, and even with the brushed version they are not slow. The disadvantages are it's not completely equipped with bearings and of course the basic Traxxas radio does not include the ability to adjust steering travel. I don't think Traxxas should go so cheap on its basic radio.

People trying to race those all the time they do not succeed compared to the big boys. The car is just not good and fragile. Now I have seen People do ok in street stock on a dirt oval but the fast People are not using the Traxxas electronics there using tekin castle or hobby wing. My buddy used a 3s vxl esc for 2 heat races in street stock and the esc overheated 3min in a 4min heat race. Dropped a tekin rs pro for the Main amd never got above a hundred same gearing and 2s lipo lol. Now all bandits in a off-road race might be funny to watch haha
