    Techart was cool enough to reach out and send me the brand new TZM-02 Leica M to Nikon Z Mount Adapter with a Mitikon Zhongyi 50mm f/.95 Speedmaster Lens to review. With this adapter you can give new life to your manual focusing lenses by turning them into an autofocus lens.

    I've been shooting photography most of my adult life. It started with an on sale Nikon D3200 that wasn't even interested in using, all the way through being a photography business owner, teacher, and TH-cam Photography Content Creator.
    My favorite subjects are Human Portraits and Shallow Depth of Field with my specialty, or claim to fame if you will, being Dramatic Nude and Bodyscape. Over my many years of photography I've mastered many genres but I never stop learning and I don't want you to stop either. That's why I started my TH-cam Channel in the year 2020. After a hiatus from photography, I picked up my camera again just in time for the Covid Pandemic. The world shut down. With more time than ever and no humans to photograph I found myself bored but motivated. ZWade Photo, the TH-cam Channel, was born.
    I have always been a Nikon brand photographer, but in my community on TH-cam there is limitless room for Canon, Sony, Fuji, Leica, Hasselblad, Nikon, AND any other brand, photographers. Follow along as this channel one day grows into the biggest, most honest, and most fun photography community on the internet.

    Ok, this is awesome. It's one thing to see it in a list of adapters on the web, but so much better when you do a review with video and pictures!! Very nice piece of kit !!!

    Also, I had a conversation with my wife about the amazing opportunities new technology creates in photography beyond going crazy about specs. Now we can incorporate old gear and have it work almost as well as modern autofocus lenses. With the manual focusing assists of cameras like the Nikon Z cameras it's easy to focus with manual lenses, and for people who don't like manual focus, well, here you are, autofocus adapters. This is what technology should do, democratizing photography (and whichever other hobby or area of work you're doing).

    Great review! I wasn't even aware there was an adapter for manual lenses and here we already have it's second edition. This is great news to those who would like to shoot with fast and quality lenses at a fraction of the price, eg. Nikon 85mm f/1.4 AI-s or any third party manual lenses which are available in abundance on the market.

    I have one and it works well on my Z5. I use it with Leica M mount lenses and M42 lenses. Just make sure your lens isn’t too heavy to exceed the max weight specs the adapter can handle. The heavier the lens the more work the helicoid has to do and the slower the focus will be.

    I am considering getting this adapter. I have the Voigtlander 50mm f1.2 Nokton VM lens and just got my hands on the Voigtlander 75mm f2.5 Color-Heliar which is an M39 mount. It would be great both for the autofocus, but also for the option to have a closer focus than the 70 cm for the Nokton and the 1 meter for the Color-Heliar.

    • @ZWadePhoto

      I see they also provide the adapter for LTM/M39 lenses, but what's the difference between:
      - Adapter (L39 - Leica M, 50.75)
      - Adapter (L39 - Leica M, 35.135)
      Are those values the focal length that can host? So, in my case, owning Voigtlanders LTM 35mm 50mm 75mm should I go for the Adapter (L39 - Leica M, 35.135) ?

    • @ZWadePhoto
      @ZWadePhoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      lenses over 50mm will require some degree of manual pre-focus, and the rest can be auto focused with the techart. Check out the description on their website to verify if there are any weight restrictions or not.

    This is not an entirely new idea. It is very similar to a helical focuser or a variable macro extension tubes. Some were built into lenses. Such as the Chinon MC (Close focus) 35-100mm F3.5-4.3 CL (CLose focusing). These were unpowered, manual operation. The drawback here is these devices, even macro tubes, change the flange distance and for maximum sharpness that needs to be precise to within a few microns. If you have used a helical focuser, you will understand this.

    • @ZWadePhoto
      @ZWadePhoto  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well I’m sure there’s nuance. 🤙

    • @jeffslade1892
      @jeffslade1892 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ZWadePhotoa sight difference (nuance), certainly. The Techart is powered and driven by the camera. The Chinon 35-100 CL starts in the closed position and extends to bring the focus closer. But this is extending the flange distance and that means the light rays of differing wave lengths do not fall at the same point but some deeper and some shorter. The tolerance on flange distance is typically within 0.05mm but we often see a "flat and parallel" figure of +/-0.003mm (3 micron). So as the lens is pushed away from the sensor the image becomes slightly fuzzy. The helical focuser I have does the same but is an astrophotography gadget.

    I have a Nikon Z8 and both adapters. The Techart was bought about a year ago (2023) the Megadap bought recently. Neither adapter works properly with the firmware 2.0 of the Nikon Z8. Prior to the firmware 2.0, the Techart adapter would power the Sony 16-35 pz lens properly while the Megadap does not. The Megadap bobbles a bit while attempting focus. The Techart WAS faster and more accurate. The Techart adapter does not fit as perfectly, with some wiggle and it is impossible to take off a Sony lens and leave the adapter on the Nikon body. While the Megadap does offer a better release button for doing this. Final note, NEITHER adapter work properly with the firmware 2.0 of the Z8. Megadap indicated they might have a firmware update in March 2024. Techart has NOT responded to my queries.

      @@ZWadePhoto I would be in very big trouble if it didn't. I roll with my A7IV/LM-EA9 as a backup, but the TZM-02 is somehow faster. I use a high frame rate because it's not perfect, but I get the shots I need. The Sony system is more accurate, but slower. I even thought the Z50 with the TZM-02 was faster than the Sony.
