    Holy smokes I bought this Sennheiser wireless system after owning a Sony wireless lav and thought it would be plug and play but what a disaster. After watching this tutorial I now have a proper set up and back in business. For this I thank you.

    Thanks Guy, this was a fantastic approach using a great systematic method to setup these babies in a checklist like manner. As informative as Sennheiser's manual is, it is missing this practical setup checklist.
    The video was also beautifully shot and the audio was stunning, clear, and made for a very relaxing instructional stile. You rock man!

I always get hits when I go more than about 10 feet away from the receiver. I got the G4 brand new, do you think it’s defective from factory?

    Hi Guy, This system is amazing. New at lav mics so I have a question if we have a scene with two or three characters, do you have to purchase an entire extra system for each ?

    • @guycochran6830
      @guycochran6830 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Each person would require their own system unless they are really close to each other. A lot of folks rent or hire a sound person that owns multiple systems. Best of luck with your productions!

  • @organicskincare
    @organicskincare 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Also, which system do you prefer: AVX with MKE or G4 500 series?

    • @GuyCochran1
      @GuyCochran1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both are great systems! Personally, I'd go G4 500 as I like the ability to Tune across many frequencies. For IMAG type presentations with talking heads there is no lag. AVX is great, simple, but does have a few MS of delay.

  • @AdamSzarmack

    Is it better to go more negative on the db's on the transmitter and a higher percentage on the camera? (in my case, the Ursa Mini G2). Or is it better to go less negative on the db's on the transmitter, and lower percentage on the camera? I hope my question makes sense. Thank you.

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Start at the Transmitter and move through the audio chain. On the Transmitter around -12dB seems to work well with the stock mic. Test and watch the VU meters. On your Ursa, go Mic level in and adjust the RX AF OUT until you feel like you're in the middle, not too hot, not too low.

  • @anarchooner4331
    @anarchooner4331 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome, thank you! This past weekend I used a G4 and was getting the occasional quick and loud spike of white noise. The only thing in the area (farm in the country) were the drones from the photographers up above me (and a WiFi box in the barn). Could those have been the interference? Also, if videographers are using silent mics, is it even advisable that I check the frequency that they are on? Does that matter? Thanks in advance!

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Would you happen to have a sample to check out? If you performed an Autoscan, you should be clear from from any DTV hits, WiFi would not affect the Sennheiser units as that is well above the 500mHz-600mHz range. Also test the cables by wiggling them back and fourth, sometimes the lav cable can become the culprit of static/lossy connection.

    Hey Guy, thanks for the video! Can I use a shotgun mic with the G4?

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the shotgun mic. The SKP 100 plug on transmitter would allow for an XLR connection. If the mic needs phantom power, the SKP 300 and 500 would provide 48V.

    • @RandmHer0
      @RandmHer0 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It should work perfectly like that! All the wireless does is remove the cord as you run around, so whether you're plugging it into a camera, PA system, mixer board or anything else, you should be great. You will want to watch your proximity to any speakers from the PA you're plugged in to, but you should be totally good to go!

    Hi, thanx for the great tutorial. I've got a question though. Where in the settings I can reduce so-called preamp hiss. It happens when nobody speaks. It's supposed to be silence, but there is a slight hiss. All devices turned ff. AF out -30, mic sensitivity -12, the recording device is Nikon D850, DSLR.

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to help. Sounds like AGC (Automatic Gain Control). Try a search for "Nikon D850 AGC" and see if it can be disabled in the menu. Or you may have to record externally (double system sound) and sync up in post.

    • @borentiy
      @borentiy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you tackle a multi-lav setup where its a table conversation and the mic’s bleed causing a terrible echo. I one man band every shoot and don’t have an audio guy so my receiver just plugs into an XLR adapter on top of my gh5.

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a couple of way to approach this: 1)You'll want to get the mic closer to the subject's mouth and turn the Transmitter's Sensitivity down. 2)Some would say to switch to a headworn mic such as a Countryman E6, DPA 4088 or RODE HSP-4. 3)Get the subjects further apart (may not be possible) 4)Switch to cardioid (directional)mics. 5) If you're doing these all the time, might be best to go Podcast/radio station style and use Shure SM7B mics on arms.

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! It will work great! Usually on Canon DSLRs we recommend turning down the Audio input levels in the menu, then turning the AF Out up on the Sennheiser Receiver. The output on the Receiver is cleaner than the Gain stage trying to raise audio up on the Canon. Hope that makes sense and helps you out.
