I'm so glad to find videos that feature tents that can be set up by a single person. I've been searching for a hot tent for a couple of months now. I already have my stove. I don't intend to go camping with another human, so I need to get a tent I can set up alone. I want a tent with plenty of room in case the weather requires I spend most of the day inside of it. I'm not wild about spending $1000 on a tent, but I also don't want one that's poor quality or will get destroyed easily. The Walmart one gets a lot of good reviews, but then I read about someone purchasing it and it having a hole in it because parts of it stuck together in shipping. That leads me to believe it may be as cheap as its price.
Just put ours up today on our property. My wife is handicapped but she was able to help me -- at least keep one of the long poles balanced for a few minutes. I ended up using cinder blocks to keep the tall ones in place until I got them all installed. Now that I fully understand it, I'll probably be able to set it up alone in about 30 minutes or so. We love this tent and are looking very much to forward to doing some cold weather camping in Colorado.

I have a 12 x 9 cabin Kodiak tent I take that tent elk hunting with me and it has survived many winter storms without even collapsing a bit it's the greatest tent that I have ever had and I am seriously thinking about buying one of these 12 x 12

Very nice setup. I have an older Kodiak tent but it doesn't have a stove jack like yours. Mine is pretty old but it still looks and works just fine. You will get a lot of use out of that tent if you take good care of it.
Last night sustained wind gusts of 31 MPH and it held up just fine. I was worried to be honest, but super impressed. All those guy ropes kept it intact. The tent is set up in my backyard and the wind got so loud it kept waking me up and I kept looking outside to see how it was doing. So, other than some lost sleep no harm done.
There’s enough room to put a plastic drawer chest in it to sort cooking items, snacks, drink stuff, and even clothing items. I’ve seen those used in glamping tents and they would be really handy to have for longer term camping trips. Also would get a tent stove with a baking oven on it, could make some biscuits, pizzas, etc.
Yes, there would be enough room if you are just camping one or two on a queen size matress. If you aren't using a stove there's a lot more room as the stove has a it's own footprint, but then it's own safety zone too. Feel free to contact us with any other questions.
On my stove chimney I drilled a hole between each section Then welded a half inch nut to some sheet metal screws so i can put the screws in by hand thru each connection so they cant come apart by accident in a wind storm
Paul, in wind have you had them fall before? I've heard of people drilling a hole into the top of the pipe and using wire to create a metal ring. From that metal ring they then use a guy rope and tie the pipe to some part of the tent to help keep it stable. I've yet to have wind bad enough to require any modifications....yet.

How weather resistant is this tent I need a tent like this but it needs to be waterproof and not where any water in over an extended period time say And how much water leaks down the stove pipe/ chimney if any?

If the chimney comes out the side wall instead of the roof wouldn't that eliminate the snow coming in? Personally I would have the stove pipe come out the wall.
That's what we're missing just wondering if they make these in different colors I would prefer like a tan or an OD green camouflage something to that effect and you know that they make a fan that's non-battery powered you put it on your wood stove regarding and it uses the heat to spin which will help circulate the air
Great comment. I plan on getting one of those fans and testing it this winter. I'd love camouflage as well. There are no plans for other colors at the moment.

I need every possible info since I would like to face my first winter in a tent, being interested in these stoves I would need all the possible advice to avoid doing damage. I especially wanted to know if these stoves burned the curtain both from the pipe and near the areas surrounding the stove
I will be 63 in march 2021 thinking of getting one of these for snowbirding nov - april the stove to be used for cooking and heating as needed, will this tent fit in short bed pickup with or without bed extension and could you live in this tent for up to six months?
So say I was in a situation where it's November and I'm in East Tennessee and I want to live in something like that for the winter and save up money would that be possible
So, my short answer is absolutely. It lasted me 4 months and still looks new. But, the long answer is that they are not live-in structures. Meaning, it would void the warranty. A lot of people spend whole seasons in them and keep them up and rent them out for glamping, etc. But, if you buy one please keep in mind that the warranty doesn't cover "extended use". You'll want to make sure that you keep the seems as dry as you can. A stove can pretty much take care of that for you, but if you are camping next to a bunch of shrubbery and brush you'll want to clear that out so it isn't touching the tent the whole time and keeping the seems wet. I hope that's helpful.
It feels cool to the touch - it's very deceiving. The first time I touched the wall during rain I panicked thinking that my hand was wet. It wasn't actually wet. It just transfers the temp so quickly that it makes you think it's wet for a second, but you can have pillows and blankets touch the wall during a storm and they still stay dry. Great comment.
Great question. I've never personally heard of that happening, but too much tension on any portion of the tent could eventually have negative effects on the seams or grommets. If it was common I would definitely know of it.

Sure thing. The cot is the Teton XXL. Even more valuable to me than the cot though is the XXL pad they make. I can get by camping without the cot, but cannot sleep without the pad. It's ideal to have both, but if I have to choose I take the pad.

I'm sorry, but we don't. These are all officially designed for camping although people do use them for extended use. We have some people who live in it while their homes under construction, spring for termites, a shelter on their second property, or they rent them out for glamping. In those situations they are not covered under the warranty, but seem to understand that.
Good question. There is some play in putting up the guy ropes. I could have gone much longer, but they were generally about 6'-10' from any side of the tent. Without the awning that means the area of the tent at 12' would be closer to 30' x 30'.

I have the cabin tent with awning and walls. I have had it for about 6 years and I love it. I put it up on are property in the Uinta mountains and it stays up there for about 4 months when there is no snow. I have had big snow storms put it to the ground, but that was over a foot of snow and I was not there to brush it off. Do u think this tent is better than the cabin tent for leaving up for months at a time? How do u think this one would do compared to the cabin tent for the snow load? Thanks for the great videos!
4 months? I'm jealous. The Uinta's are my favorite place to go. Here's my opinion on this 12x12 versus your 12x9. The 12x9 has less surface area allowing more weight overall to accumulate on the 12x12. However, the 12x12 has that support rod in the center. In addition to that you've got the poles around the perimiter simply stand straight up and are each tied down with guy roops as opposed to the 12x9 that has three sets of ridge poles. The 12x12 poles would withstand more vertical pressure of snow. So, out of the box the 12x12 will absolutely support more snow. But, at some point with some snow load it will fail if it isn't brushed off. I intend on testing it to the extreme this season (wish it was already done so I could give you more solid feedback). If you do go with the 12x12, If I were you, I'd get a few extra telescoping upright t-poles to really reinforce it while you're gone.
Looking forward to seeing the closed in room. Also, with the addition of the new lodge tent with removable canvas enclosure, will we see a redesign of the 6133 awning to be removable with canvas sides rather than the current material?
That's a great question roadkill598. I don't think we will see a redesign of the 6133. I think most customers are very happy with that set-up even though the enclosure (not the canvas awning roof) is a polydenier material. If it were canvas it would have a higher cost and likely price some campers out of the market so I doubt we will see any redesign of the wall enclosure. Who knows though? If we get enough interest it may happen so if you are reading this and are interested in a canvas enclosure for the 12x9 cabin tent please speak up. :)
@@Competitiveedgeproducts Personally I would love to see a redesign of the enclosure kit, but also at the same time I would think it would be better long term that if you redesign the 6133 enclosure kit, make a universal enclosure kit that fits both the 6133 and the lodge style tent.

With the wood-burning stove, the heat is very dry unlike a propane heater so there is no condensation - at least none caused by the heater. The tent breathes pretty well and so far I haven't noticed any condensation anywhere.
My question is about fly for this tent. I see there was a comment a couple of months ago asking about embers. I'm the one considering moving full time into tents on platforms in my large, rural back garden in the far north of NZ where we get high winds, months of rain, and very high UV. No snow though so that's something. My research is making me lean towards adding poles with trellis fencing around the outside of the decking area, and also thinking it would be smart to add a large canvas sail over the entire thing. Thoughts? (1) Would the addition of canvas above the stove tent be sufficient to help against the UV damage? I'd much rather there be a separate fly available specifically designed for this tent (and vestibule), but another thought is.... (2) could a fly be custom made for this tent and vestibule?? I don't know what is involved. (3) Would trellis surrounding the decking area make any difference to how much wind hits the tent? I don't know enough yet on HOW the wind affects tents and from what angle. My understanding is that the bigger the SIDE of the tent, the greater the risk. Is that right? I realise that the warranty on the tents doesn't cover permanent use. I'm trying to find a combination of TWO tents will give me say 5+ years of rough but comfortable living with access to mains power, and tank water with a compost loo. Suggestions from anyone on good blogs to help guide me through the more random stuff? Thank you.
That's an adventure - sounds exciting. I know that we've marketed some of these tents to show how durable they are, but we don't intend them to be a permanent structure or shelter. That's not to say you can't do it, but it isn't specifically made to be an extended living shelter. I'll try and answer your questions systematically in the order you asked them. 1) we do have companies that rent these out for glamour camping and they will put in awning over the entire tent for that specific purpose to protect against UV rays. Eventually the sun can get the better of any tent. It's nice to have the sun if you're in a humid area to help keep it dry though. We don't have a separate fly available, but there is a canvas floor liner - a bit expensive for this purpose. I would probably just get a large tarp that can be replaced every few months. 2) We don't make customer flies, but you could probably have one customer made from a sewing/fabric shop. 3) You are right about the bigger the side, the greater the impact the wind has. It's possible that if you get strong enough wind you may have to lay the tent down. And in very strong winds you'd want to put your fire out as a precaution. We've tested it in winds up to 37mph (could have tested higher, but haven't had stronger winds to test) and it held up fine. If you plan on living in something for up to five years (assuming its in the same place) you might consider one of those little mini homes too. There are a ton of youtube videos on those little mini homes built on small trailers. They may protect you better from the elements, but they do cost more. If this tent were kept in an area where it can dry and yet is protected from the sun you may get a few years use out of it, but with any canvas tent you'll probably learn the art of patching up and sewing up tears, etc. I'm not sure of any blogs, but hopefully others will chime in with something helpful for you. Hey, I talked with someone who has experience with both tents. The Alaknak is a very good tent. It has a lighter weight as it's made with polyester and has a lighter-weight floor as well. Those are the two advantages it might have, but the Kodiak Lodge Tent is canvas vs polyester which is a more breathable material that minimizes mugginess and condensation that polyester can create. Canvas is more durable and lasts longer. The Alaknak has a single teepee-style pole versus the Kodiak Roof ridge pool and an optional extreme weather center pole. The Kodiak tent is going to feel roomier. Plus, the Kodiak tent allows for that extra 8x8 awning to be added at any time versus the Alaknak's add-on vestibule. Hope that helps. Oh, one more advantage the Alaknak may have is that you might find that in stock :) These Lodge tents sell out before they are officially even restocked.
Great point. I only left that open to show the fire. I never burn the stove with it open as it can allow smoke and embers into the tent. Thanks for pointing that out.
So I'm really interested in this tent. Partly because I don't know how to pack light. Partly because I feel like this could do anything I'd want it to. And partly because it seems so open. (I'm not claustrophobic, YOU'RE claustrophobic) At a 12x12 size it SEEMS comparable to the 10x14, right? Just a few extra square feet. But the actual footprint is significantly more with the guy lines, right? Am I going to have problems finding a tent site for this at state parks? I don't want to have to rent an RV spot because I don't particularly want to listen to generators all night. My family of 4 is looking to buy our first real tent, and I'm a "buy once, cry once" type. But I haven't done enough camping while traveling to know. Google isn't super helpful with average size for campsite, either. I'm still considering the 10x14 or the cabin tent with awning. But man, this one looks nice PS: is there a place to pull in an extension cord? I don't remember seeing one
Check out the "Hexagon Russian bear tent" It's the warmest tent made and has more square footage. Sets up in minutes too. I just bought one. They are Russian tents made for extreme cold but they have a warehouse in Kentucky
Hi Nick, if you mean 2 sets of 3 I'd say that would be a little too crammed. Two sets of two should work great though. You don't want anyone too close to the stove. If you're not using a stove, then you'd have room for the three sets of two.
Good question. No, there is no rain fly. Haven't had any embers make any pin holes. Had the fire going really hot last night and had to open several windows. Walked outside to see if there were embers coming out the flu and every once in a while I could see some, but the flu it pretty tall and who knows, maybe with the wind blowing that may have helped.
Over time, the embers will put pin holes in the canvas which would be a major flaw in my opinion if there is no fly to cover the roof. If I purchased the tent, I would definitely need to have a make shift rain fly over the roof to protect the canvas.
It will be interesting to see how this will hold up all winter. I’ll be watching your updated videos. I’ve been waiting for Kodiak to make a tent with a stove jack for many years. I do elk hunting in the back country for 10 days at a time. This tent doesn’t appear to use the flex bow technology...is that correct? How warm did the tent stay with the stove going? I also couldn’t locate the video of when you set up the tent.

There is only one ridge pole and the interior support pole should give it a ton of support in extreme weather, more than the flexbow style, but it does take longer to set up. That's the beauty of the flex bow style versus any other style, but this I'm sure is strong in snow. I'll keep you updated. I think we'll do a weekly update video.
Bryan, I've talked to another guy who has this tent and has used a stove for years in all his tents. He gave me some good advice when it comes to embers. You probably know this, but his caution was to make sure you are burning regular good 'old fashioned wood. He gave me the example that once when he was burning pine cones and pine needles (simply because they were everywhere in his campground) that it created a ridiculous amount of embers coming out of the top pipe. That would create an unusual amount of embers burning that in your fire pit. So his advice to minimize the embers was simply to make sure you are burning good dry wood.
Regarding extended use please take a look at the following link: www.kodiakcanvas.com/content/Extended-Use-Care-Instructions.pdf It explains the following on extended use: If you are using your tent for extended use situations, periods of continuous use for three weeks or greater, there are some precautions you should be aware of in order to maximize the life of your tent. Canvas Rot: This occurs when the canvas at the bottom of the tent is in constant contact with moist ground. The canvas never dries out and eventually will begin to rot or decay in the areas of contact. Even if there is no precipitation, this can be caused by moisture from dew. Prevention: For extend use, make sure the tent is placed in an area that is well drained and dry. It could be placed on sand, gravel, or a slated wooden platform. Extended use on grassy areas or moist soil should be avoided. Mildew: Is more prone to grow in humid climates in dark or shady areas. Prevention: Opening the tent up daily and letting it air out. When possible, place the tent in an area where it can receive a couple hours of direct sunlight a day. UV Damage. While your Kodiak Canvas tent is much less susceptible to UV deterioration than many synthetic fabrics, over time it will eventually degrade the canvas. Life expectancy in full sunlight should exceed one year of continuous use. Possibly much more than a year- there are many factors. Prevention: Placing your tent an area where it receives full sunlight for only a few hours a day is best, and will prolong its useful life.
I’m thinking about buying one to live in. My home burned 2 weeks ago and insurance won’t pay enough for me to replace it. But I still have the 6 acre paradise along the creek. My property is basicly a big camp site accept I had a home on it. I’d rather live in a tent than leave it😰. My only fear is freezing to death even with a wood stove
I'm sorry about your home. One thing has surprised me big time with the introduction of this tent last fall of 2019. There are so many people that are living in these, not just hunting or camping. People live in them while their home is being built or they leave them set up on their property. It's amazing to me. Some people who live in the tents go with the grand cabin model 6160 by the way. No stove jack though. The wooden stove can sure keep you warm, but if you're living in it obviously you'll go through a fair amount of fuel throughout the winter.
J.R not sure were you live but people in northern canada n military stay in similar tents wall tents with stoves in -45 there not freezing to death im sure you'll be fine stay safe

@@deb1120 That's interesting. I've never had any issues with any of the tents with the exception of a cheap Walmart cot whose sharp foot punctured the floor. I've never experienced rot or anything since it's vinyl. Now, I know if you have moisture constantly touching the canvas part of the bottom wall it will eventually rot or mold so it's recommended to check the permitted if you're going to camp for long periods of time to clear away brush or shrubbery touching the bottom walls. Try and keep the tent as dry as possible as often as possible to prevent mold and mildew. Some people forget to dry it out after getting rained on or they leave it packed wet for a few days as opposed to just a day or so transporting it home.

If the chimney comes out the side wall instead of the roof wouldn't that eliminate the snow coming in? Personally I would have the stove pipe come out the wall.

Absolutely! I use an AC I got from Sams club that has an exhaust hose and it works great.

That's what we're missing just wondering if they make these in different colors I would prefer like a tan or an OD green camouflage something to that effect and you know that they make a fan that's non-battery powered you put it on your wood stove regarding and it uses the heat to spin which will help circulate the air

I need every possible info since I would like to face my first winter in a tent, being interested in these stoves I would need all the possible advice to avoid doing damage. I especially wanted to know if these stoves burned the curtain both from the pipe and near the areas surrounding the stove

Nice setup, but I still prefer my canvas wall tent w/stove. Has withstood 60 mph winds just fine.
So say I was in a situation where it's November and I'm in East Tennessee and I want to live in something like that for the winter and save up money would that be possible
So, my short answer is absolutely. It lasted me 4 months and still looks new. But, the long answer is that they are not live-in structures. Meaning, it would void the warranty. A lot of people spend whole seasons in them and keep them up and rent them out for glamping, etc. But, if you buy one please keep in mind that the warranty doesn't cover "extended use". You'll want to make sure that you keep the seems as dry as you can. A stove can pretty much take care of that for you, but if you are camping next to a bunch of shrubbery and brush you'll want to clear that out so it isn't touching the tent the whole time and keeping the seems wet. I hope that's helpful.

How do you keep it dry inside??? After a day of rain and cool temperatures, the inside roof was damp to the touch...
It feels cool to the touch - it's very deceiving. The first time I touched the wall during rain I panicked thinking that my hand was wet. It wasn't actually wet. It just transfers the temp so quickly that it makes you think it's wet for a second, but you can have pillows and blankets touch the wall during a storm and they still stay dry. Great comment.

Great question. I've never personally heard of that happening, but too much tension on any portion of the tent could eventually have negative effects on the seams or grommets. If it was common I would definitely know of it.

Sure thing. The cot is the Teton XXL. Even more valuable to me than the cot though is the XXL pad they make. I can get by camping without the cot, but cannot sleep without the pad. It's ideal to have both, but if I have to choose I take the pad.

Do you guys have any wall tents for extended living and could this tent be used for extended living with the stove in it? If you don't have any wall tents do you plan on making one in the near future? The ones I have seen are so expensive
I'm sorry, but we don't. These are all officially designed for camping although people do use them for extended use. We have some people who live in it while their homes under construction, spring for termites, a shelter on their second property, or they rent them out for glamping. In those situations they are not covered under the warranty, but seem to understand that.

Good question. There is some play in putting up the guy ropes. I could have gone much longer, but they were generally about 6'-10' from any side of the tent. Without the awning that means the area of the tent at 12' would be closer to 30' x 30'.

I have the cabin tent with awning and walls. I have had it for about 6 years and I love it. I put it up on are property in the Uinta mountains and it stays up there for about 4 months when there is no snow. I have had big snow storms put it to the ground, but that was over a foot of snow and I was not there to brush it off. Do u think this tent is better than the cabin tent for leaving up for months at a time? How do u think this one would do compared to the cabin tent for the snow load? Thanks for the great videos!
4 months? I'm jealous. The Uinta's are my favorite place to go. Here's my opinion on this 12x12 versus your 12x9. The 12x9 has less surface area allowing more weight overall to accumulate on the 12x12. However, the 12x12 has that support rod in the center. In addition to that you've got the poles around the perimiter simply stand straight up and are each tied down with guy roops as opposed to the 12x9 that has three sets of ridge poles. The 12x12 poles would withstand more vertical pressure of snow. So, out of the box the 12x12 will absolutely support more snow. But, at some point with some snow load it will fail if it isn't brushed off. I intend on testing it to the extreme this season (wish it was already done so I could give you more solid feedback). If you do go with the 12x12, If I were you, I'd get a few extra telescoping upright t-poles to really reinforce it while you're gone.

That's a great question roadkill598. I don't think we will see a redesign of the 6133. I think most customers are very happy with that set-up even though the enclosure (not the canvas awning roof) is a polydenier material. If it were canvas it would have a higher cost and likely price some campers out of the market so I doubt we will see any redesign of the wall enclosure. Who knows though? If we get enough interest it may happen so if you are reading this and are interested in a canvas enclosure for the 12x9 cabin tent please speak up. :)

The door is slightly raised off the ground so if you're wondering if water would get inside you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Good video. Do you get condensation on the inside walls towards the bottom where the cots may touch?
With the wood-burning stove, the heat is very dry unlike a propane heater so there is no condensation - at least none caused by the heater. The tent breathes pretty well and so far I haven't noticed any condensation anywhere.
My question is about fly for this tent. I see there was a comment a couple of months ago asking about embers.
I'm the one considering moving full time into tents on platforms in my large, rural back garden in the far north of NZ where we get high winds, months of rain, and very high UV. No snow though so that's something.
My research is making me lean towards adding poles with trellis fencing around the outside of the decking area, and also thinking it would be smart to add a large canvas sail over the entire thing.
Thoughts?
(1) Would the addition of canvas above the stove tent be sufficient to help against the UV damage? I'd much rather there be a separate fly available specifically designed for this tent (and vestibule), but another thought is....
(2) could a fly be custom made for this tent and vestibule?? I don't know what is involved.
(3) Would trellis surrounding the decking area make any difference to how much wind hits the tent? I don't know enough yet on HOW the wind affects tents and from what angle. My understanding is that the bigger the SIDE of the tent, the greater the risk. Is that right?
I realise that the warranty on the tents doesn't cover permanent use. I'm trying to find a combination of TWO tents will give me say 5+ years of rough but comfortable living with access to mains power, and tank water with a compost loo.
Suggestions from anyone on good blogs to help guide me through the more random stuff?

That's an adventure - sounds exciting. I know that we've marketed some of these tents to show how durable they are, but we don't intend them to be a permanent structure or shelter. That's not to say you can't do it, but it isn't specifically made to be an extended living shelter. I'll try and answer your questions systematically in the order you asked them. 1) we do have companies that rent these out for glamour camping and they will put in awning over the entire tent for that specific purpose to protect against UV rays. Eventually the sun can get the better of any tent. It's nice to have the sun if you're in a humid area to help keep it dry though. We don't have a separate fly available, but there is a canvas floor liner - a bit expensive for this purpose. I would probably just get a large tarp that can be replaced every few months.
2) We don't make customer flies, but you could probably have one customer made from a sewing/fabric shop.
3) You are right about the bigger the side, the greater the impact the wind has. It's possible that if you get strong enough wind you may have to lay the tent down. And in very strong winds you'd want to put your fire out as a precaution. We've tested it in winds up to 37mph (could have tested higher, but haven't had stronger winds to test) and it held up fine.
If you plan on living in something for up to five years (assuming its in the same place) you might consider one of those little mini homes too. There are a ton of youtube videos on those little mini homes built on small trailers. They may protect you better from the elements, but they do cost more. If this tent were kept in an area where it can dry and yet is protected from the sun you may get a few years use out of it, but with any canvas tent you'll probably learn the art of patching up and sewing up tears, etc. I'm not sure of any blogs, but hopefully others will chime in with something helpful for you. Hey, I talked with someone who has experience with both tents. The Alaknak is a very good tent. It has a lighter weight as it's made with polyester and has a lighter-weight floor as well. Those are the two advantages it might have, but the Kodiak Lodge Tent is canvas vs polyester which is a more breathable material that minimizes mugginess and condensation that polyester can create. Canvas is more durable and lasts longer. The Alaknak has a single teepee-style pole versus the Kodiak Roof ridge pool and an optional extreme weather center pole. The Kodiak tent is going to feel roomier. Plus, the Kodiak tent allows for that extra 8x8 awning to be added at any time versus the Alaknak's add-on vestibule. Hope that helps. Oh, one more advantage the Alaknak may have is that you might find that in stock :) These Lodge tents sell out before they are officially even restocked.

We've only tested it in up to 40 mph and it held up just fine.

Yes, definitely. Nylon has it's purposes for sure, especially in backpacking, but for winter camping to stay dry and warm canvas is better for sure.

So I'm really interested in this tent. Partly because I don't know how to pack light. Partly because I feel like this could do anything I'd want it to. And partly because it seems so open. (I'm not claustrophobic, YOU'RE claustrophobic)
At a 12x12 size it SEEMS comparable to the 10x14, right? Just a few extra square feet. But the actual footprint is significantly more with the guy lines, right? Am I going to have problems finding a tent site for this at state parks? I don't want to have to rent an RV spot because I don't particularly want to listen to generators all night.
My family of 4 is looking to buy our first real tent, and I'm a "buy once, cry once" type. But I haven't done enough camping while traveling to know. Google isn't super helpful with average size for campsite, either.

Check out the "Hexagon Russian bear tent" It's the warmest tent made and has more square footage. Sets up in minutes too. I just bought one. They are Russian tents made for extreme cold but they have a warehouse in Kentucky

Hi Nick, if you mean 2 sets of 3 I'd say that would be a little too crammed. Two sets of two should work great though. You don't want anyone too close to the stove. If you're not using a stove, then you'd have room for the three sets of two.
Did that tent have a rain fly or fire retardant fly on it for the embers making pin holes in the canvas?
Good question. No, there is no rain fly. Haven't had any embers make any pin holes. Had the fire going really hot last night and had to open several windows. Walked outside to see if there were embers coming out the flu and every once in a while I could see some, but the flu it pretty tall and who knows, maybe with the wind blowing that may have helped.
Over time, the embers will put pin holes in the canvas which would be a major flaw in my opinion if there is no fly to cover the roof. If I purchased the tent, I would definitely need to have a make shift rain fly over the roof to protect the canvas.
It will be interesting to see how this will hold up all winter. I’ll be watching your updated videos. I’ve been waiting for Kodiak to make a tent with a stove jack for many years. I do elk hunting in the back country for 10 days at a time. This tent doesn’t appear to use the flex bow technology...is that correct?
How warm did the tent stay with the stove going?

There is only one ridge pole and the interior support pole should give it a ton of support in extreme weather, more than the flexbow style, but it does take longer to set up. That's the beauty of the flex bow style versus any other style, but this I'm sure is strong in snow. I'll keep you updated. I think we'll do a weekly update video.
Bryan, I've talked to another guy who has this tent and has used a stove for years in all his tents. He gave me some good advice when it comes to embers. You probably know this, but his caution was to make sure you are burning regular good 'old fashioned wood. He gave me the example that once when he was burning pine cones and pine needles (simply because they were everywhere in his campground) that it created a ridiculous amount of embers coming out of the top pipe. That would create an unusual amount of embers burning that in your fire pit. So his advice to minimize the embers was simply to make sure you are burning good dry wood.
Why would you put a carbon monoxide detector up so high? It's later than air .... won't it start on the ground ?
That is a good point. I'll keep that in mind. From my understanding CO even with it's lighter density will disperse through a room fairly evenly.

Canvas Rot: This occurs when the canvas at the bottom of the tent is in constant contact
with moist ground. The canvas never dries out and eventually will begin to rot or decay in
the areas of contact. Even if there is no precipitation, this can be caused by moisture from
dew. Prevention: For extend use, make sure the tent is placed in an area that is well drained
and dry. It could be placed on sand, gravel, or a slated wooden platform. Extended use on
grassy areas or moist soil should be avoided.
Mildew: Is more prone to grow in humid climates in dark or shady areas. Prevention:
Opening the tent up daily and letting it air out. When possible, place the tent in an area
where it can receive a couple hours of direct sunlight a day.
UV Damage. While your Kodiak Canvas tent is much less susceptible to UV deterioration
than many synthetic fabrics, over time it will eventually degrade the canvas. Life expectancy
in full sunlight should exceed one year of continuous use. Possibly much more than a year-
there are many factors. Prevention: Placing your tent an area where it receives full sunlight
for only a few hours a day is best, and will prolong its useful life.

I’m thinking about buying one to live in. My home burned 2 weeks ago and insurance won’t pay enough for me to replace it. But I still have the 6 acre paradise along the creek. My property is basicly a big camp site accept I had a home on it. I’d rather live in a tent than leave it😰. My only fear is freezing to death even with a wood stove
I'm sorry about your home. One thing has surprised me big time with the introduction of this tent last fall of 2019. There are so many people that are living in these, not just hunting or camping. People live in them while their home is being built or they leave them set up on their property. It's amazing to me. Some people who live in the tents go with the grand cabin model 6160 by the way. No stove jack though. The wooden stove can sure keep you warm, but if you're living in it obviously you'll go through a fair amount of fuel throughout the winter.

@@deb1120 That's interesting. I've never had any issues with any of the tents with the exception of a cheap Walmart cot whose sharp foot punctured the floor. I've never experienced rot or anything since it's vinyl. Now, I know if you have moisture constantly touching the canvas part of the bottom wall it will eventually rot or mold so it's recommended to check the permitted if you're going to camp for long periods of time to clear away brush or shrubbery touching the bottom walls. Try and keep the tent as dry as possible as often as possible to prevent mold and mildew. Some people forget to dry it out after getting rained on or they leave it packed wet for a few days as opposed to just a day or so transporting it home.
