Just to think, if Prof. Bobby did do that church gig, he would be the guitarist of vulfpeck.

yep. knowing that the bridge goes to a flat 7 dominant chord doesn't come from luck! it comes from respecting the gig enough to put in the work

Cory, I love how you have made this series almost seem or feel like satire but its not satire at all. Just great advice for budding musicians.
And I love your come-up story.

Cory, this content is going to empower the next generation of musicians. There’s so much delusion on success, especially when it comes to networking and the “who ya know” mantra. Your straightforward and and practical approach in these videos is adding so much value to me at the start of my music career as a recent college grad. Thank you!

Playing in church is probably the best way to become a great musician or singer. So many working musicians started there. It even helps you with writing music that consistently moves people. You can learn so many aspects of the music game there.

This is a cool series! I think it's good to mention that, if you're quitting a gig, you might think about timing. Maybe it's just plain obvious, but I'll say it anyway: If the group or artist is on tour, organizing a tour, prepping for the studio, or anything logistically intensive like that, then a "notice period" would be ideal... kinda like a "real job", ha ha! Try not to leave 'em hanging too much!

The Bobby Stanton => "Jack Joe and Theo" thing is a domino/snowball effect. It's actually wonderful. But YOU NEED that little push at the beginning. If you never get that push which can be translated as the "I like how you play, come over to this next week etc..." You're screwed.

I think Cory misread that 420 friendly band. I think they are a jam band that plays at hippie festivals, Rainbow gatherings, and community centers. Good times, but perhaps not the most steady gigs. And if you're an uptight religious person, or into metal perhaps not for you.
