There was an episode where one of the contestants blades snapped on the first hit of the first test. It did not kill.
Yes, some times he said it will cut. And I remember some longsword didnt work well.

I understand it is heavy but that cut test was not the blades fault but the judges
I think they meant that his blade was heavier, thus harder to use, less controllable etc. but it still didn't perm much better than the lighter blade.

@@e.t.crecordsworldwide1979 He explained because of the weight he over compensated, the weight being an issue over the lighter weapon. The performance of the blade isn't optimum. The lighter blade is optimum.

1: This is not some old man. Those judges are some highly skilled experts in terms of knifes and swords
2 : if you slow done the video you can see that he is hitting in the same way like before. In this case it not just bend a bit (like by the guy before), it bend to much and so it kind of flipped out.
Also he explained that is was too heavy.

It's wasn't the last test that did it. The handle had a bad shape and turned in the guys hand when hacking the bone. The other sword was already praised for its handle and it was always going to come down to that
Yeah that means the sword is poorly designed, not practical and useless. Bet you never held a sword in your life.
Elijah Grau okay so if a person who has handled swords all his life cant handle a weapon of that weight how will a young man handle it in combat imagine swinging that hundreds of times in battle the user will be fatigued and probably pass which means your dead but the other guys blade would not have that issue as it was just as sharp and lighter.
Also your not going to have some 6,4 bodybuilder handling this weapon either protein was scares back then which means less muscle mass for the people handling this.

@Metal-Muscle & Games a robotic arm is not that expensive. If all they need to do is perform a linear swing movement from a to b with X amount of force. They can so it cheaper. The japanese arms you know and love are over engineered marvels of technology. The show doesnt need something that expensive
If you were to use these weapons in a battle there will be human error. It’s not about what a robot could do with the weapons, it is about what a human can do with the weapons.
I love the positivity Ed shown in this video, though he lose the round.

That blade was sharp enough to cut cleanly through stem of the 2nd pumpkin... the older man is just not good with weapons... I've seen several instances where he can't swing a blade and then he tries to blame it on the blade... seriously, what are his qualifications?
That poor edge allignment was because the handle was round.
@Man Plan Okay well the same old man swung the other blade... In the end the blade that was easier to control won because both were really good.
Due to a combination of a heavy weapon and a rounded handle, yeah that's going to happen. In the hands of someone who knows how to use a weapon well, poor edge alignment is often the fault of the weapon. You can adjust for it, but if the weapon is made well you shouldn't have to.
Two different judges had the same poor edge alignment using that weapon that neither of them had while using the other weapon.

Or test slicing before going through a boar and bones lol.
They are resting to see how well the edge holds up after some use. Granted it's more abuse than use. The point us if its crafted better the edge will still be there after.
Well humans are the ones who use blades, so having human error is accurate, yes?
You did see each test was lead by a different judge right. Doug took one and the other two master smiths lead the other two tests. Each felt that the youngest guy glad was better because of weight issues.

Such a wholesome and genuine show. It doesn't use drama, because the consept is cool enough that people love it. Surely there are some cringy factors but it adds flavour at least :D

Agreed. When testing the sharpness for example he angled it all wrong, I was literally shouting at my phone.
@@Moodo76 sharpness is not the problem. Practicality it will lose to the lighter 2 hand sword. If it is in real combat it will used up more energy because of its weight.

The old timey carnival barker is a historical weaponsmithing expert that made the model weapon they were working off of and went through the tests prior to the contestants’ blades. He also admitted to overcompensating for the weight. The loss wasn’t due to it not being sharp enough.

It wouldnt be much of a strength test if it was easy. "Lets see if after warming the blade it can cut through this block of butter in less than three hits."
chris hubbard Yeah I know that. It's just obvious that when you stress test something there's gonna be some chipping eventually, no matter how well made the blade. Never said it was supposed to be easy.
@@vinokai True, but it kinda HAS to damage the blades at least a little, because if it doesnt, then there is no way to judge which blade did better. I mean yeah sure sometimes a blade is really bad and it shatters, but I think they aim the test to try and get results between nothing and catastrophic failure. Some of their tests are just absurd though.
At least this one involved a blade hitting bone, which is absolutely something a sword will be doing. Yeah its ramped up to thicker bones than normal but still. At least its not pounding knives made from railroad spikes INTO railroad spikes. Or smashing them edge first into solid metal bolts with a hammer to see if it snaps.
chris hubbard yeah that makes sense. Tho I think there's been episodes where both contestants' blades either had chips, or the rare chances both never chip. I think the biggest deciding factor is if it gets bent.

I think you overestimate how heavy even two handed swords are. When they complain about weight, and they all did, it’s generally going to be a major impairment to usability.

At least this strength test made sense. A sword is going to be hitting bones when its used. They didnt try to jackhammer a tunnel through a castle wall with it then complain the tip was flattened.

Flexibility prevents a blade from bending too far and breaking when you hit steel and bone.
A flexible sword that returns to true is fine. Especially when it cuts just fine. And a heavier sword is going to be slower to swing and wear you out faster.
