Quick distinction: I'm specifically talking about non-benefitted hourly wage earners in this video. There are many people earning hourly wages in fields like construction and medicine who earn a TON of money because of overtime pay. But today I'm specifically focusing on the 1/5 of working Americans who are trapped in a non-benefited poverty cycle because they don't qualify for a total compensation package. Breaking out of that cycle and entering the benefited, professional workforce is one of the most effective first steps people can reasonable take towards escaping poverty.

I was about to watch this and SCATHE yet another guru PoS... not at all. Great information, and even though I've undergone the same "poverty to middle class" transition as you, I STILL learned some new and re-learned some forgotten information from this video.
    Thanks man.

Not really applicable in Australia. By law, casual employees i.e non full-time receive 25% higher hourly rate than their full-time counterparts. This is to offset some of the benefits you get being a FT employee.

Great video. I'm not even American but a lot of this advice is applicable everywhere. Your videos have a lot of potential, i think lots of people would benefit from seeing videos like these. I'd put more work on the thumbnail if you're able to :)

no reason to become salary if you work 60 hours but make what you should make for 40

Definitely not worth it if you're in a job that involves overtime.

Hold up. Salary is a fools game unless it's MAJOR money. You will work overtime for no overtime pay. Hourly wages can easily pay 75k. Overtime at x1.5 or x2 or x2.5. It's not hourly that's a bad way to get paid. It's just about the industry you're in. Get into a trade and 6 figures is easily in reach with hourly pay. The rest of the advice is good.

100% great advice for people already making enough money to survive. I'm focused on the 1/5 of Americans in the non-benefitted trap working 2-3 jobs to make ends meet. But yes, once you're there, then making sure your overtime is protected through your compensation structure is super important. No point in making more money just to get abused worse in a shinier cage.

I'm technically wealthy, and I'm from India. I have no idea why this video was recommended to me. But, overall, this seemed like sound advice. Good luck on your TH-cam channel.

Society requires millions of low wage, low skill workers. These positions have to be filled by someone and they dont pay a living wage.

I was paid $14/hr to drive an ambulance and stop people from dying for years. Then I got paid $40/hr, stock options, free international travel, and a pension when I transitioned to sitting in a chair and staring at numbers for a living.
Unfortunately, at least outside of the trades, the way we price wages almost never has anything to do with societal importance or skill.

Winds me up when salaried staff in a conversation with waged staff say EVERYONE is struggling. No...

Exactly! Not being rich is different than not being able to afford to live.
