Lots of flooding around too and the highest crest since 1997 on the Ohio River.

I was stopped at a level crossing the other day watching a train go by and I look at them different now thanks to Shoestring. I was like, ooh grainers, I wonder if there's someone in there?

i like these videos because i used to "hop" trains as a kid. there was a bridge the trains slowed down for and after that an uphill grade that went for a couple miles so you could grab on then jump off later. one time i suggested a group of us (4) try it and all went well until one of us got afraid to jump off. of course the train picked up speed after the hill and by the time that individual was convinced to jump we were some 12 miles from home. long story short, we got home real late and that individual (of course) had to mention the details of that day and there was all hell to pay for all of us. didn't stop me hopping trains however, saw it as a way to escape the world and relax.

Watching this just made all my panic and anxiety of the day melt away. Even with the constant "flat tire" sound, "clunk clunk clunk" I found this relaxed me. I now truly understand why you ride. Thanks Shoestring. (btw I'm the fellow that bought your harmonica and watch on ebay, still got 'em)

Sounds like you hopped on a flat tire. My wanderlust tells me that’s the “clacking sound of freedom.” Every man has to find his own peace, right now I’m cooking dinner for my son, which is awesome. But there’s a part of me that would rather be on the rails. It’s like I’m caught between two worlds. That’s why your videos are amazing.

Damn! I wish you got some clips of that steel mill in Russell. I don't know what it is about old steel mills that just amazes me.

I was happy to see this one, I was born and raised in Ashland, and in your last scene you were direcly across from the apartment building I lived in during my high school days. I used to work for a bank, headquartered in Painstville KY, about an hour south of Ashland. I have driven US 23 many times, and it paralles most of that trip you made. Interesting that the trains go right through the middle of the Marathon, formerly Ashland Oil Refinery. If you could have walked a little farther north, there are a couple of convenience stores in Russell, but probably no free high speed internet. I live in Greenup county now, and even worked for Progress Rail at the shops on the other side of the Russell yard, so look forward to the next leg of your trip. You will go across the "Old North Bridge" to cross the river just East of Portsmouth, although in Appalachia speech, we say "Portsmuth", without the O sound lol.

Thinking the exact same thing!! I'm sure they must switch the different positions of the train cars on different trips to balance it out possibly!! like putting the cars that were in the front on one trip in the back on another

Me and my daughter watch the back of every car to see if you're on one every time we see a train come through Bristol. She's 4 and absolutely loves trains so she gets into watching your videos.

Wow! Shoestring I didn't read the description up above, so near the end of the video when that train stopped close to those workers. I ain't gonna lie my heart started beating fast! Right about when that one worker turned his head and looked right at you. Plus you never know many of those workers have radio's and might decide to call in on you. This video could have had a dramatic ending. But in the end everything turned out ok. Take care Shoestring, I just recently found your channel so I'm trying to get caught up.
