- Donkey Kong Barrel Blast is a game that exclusively I like. It is mostly bad, but there are good elements that I have obsessively thought about for a decade and a half, so I went through the entire game to find the one track where the game doesn't trip over its own two feet. This track, Temple Heights, is that track. Will it redeem Barrel Blast as a misunderstood gem? No, but I'll yell about it anyway.

If you think about it, Wild Moves are the racing equivalent of the Roll Attack from the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy, a short burst of speed that increases in duration by running into enemies and objects.
I hope Kip, Kass, Kalypso, and Kludge will show up in another DK game.
Or even a mario spin off game. Like super sluggers had such a great roster with the DK characters
@@tjlnintendo If they ever make another Mario Baseball game, they will probably focus on Mario characters and only bring in Diddy Kong as a DK rep. They only used that many DK characters in the last game, because the Mario cast was not big enough for such a roster, but now they can use characters such as Rosalina, Pauline, Chargin' Chuck, The Koopalings, Sledge Bro, Baby Rosalina, Baby Wario, Metal Mario, Pinkgold Peach, etc.

I will say something positive about this game, I really like the idea of the Kremlings having their own counterparts to some of the kongs, Kip and Kass definitely should’ve appeared in the series beforehand being an Anti Diddy and Dixie, it really makes the rivalry between the two tribes more interesting, also K. Rool being Cranky’s rival makes sense considering they’re both the commanders of the groups (and a weird reference to the DKC cartoon) if the Kremlings do return in the future I hope we do get some of the rival Kremlings as bosses, it would be great to expand on them as characters.
The only negative about this roster is the lack of Krusha (who was planned) and Chunky (Who’s pineapple launcher appears but not him) as characters and Lanky’s voice being ruined.
I agree, individual Kremling rivals with their own personalities and specific Kong interactions can go very far should they return.
Same here. I like the idea of King K. Rool having kremling versions of the kongs and having rivalries with their counterparts. I would love to see them show up in future DK titles akin to the Koopalings.

That dig at Scott the Woz was the absolute BEST.
Gotta give PAON props for respecting the DKC lore that Rare created, and not only respecting it, but adding to it in a way that felt logical to what Rare would've done had they held onto the series. The world in this game, certainly feels like the world of Donkey Kong Country. Jungle Beat and DKCR didn't really achieve that, I don't think they wanted to, but PAON did, and so yeah, props to them.
This game is the epitome of “good idea, bad execution”. There are some GREAT ideas here (Item RNG not completely bad, you can decide if you want offense or defense, Kremlings being more aggressive with items while Kongs are more defensive, the new Kremling characters like Kalypso and Kludge who can be the Evilyn and Beast Man to K. Rool’s Skeletor, etc.) It’s a shame that it was so bad as it has things that can be refined. I often wonder if it would have been better on the GameCube, much like Jungle Beat was.

Finally someone talks about barrel blast without just shitting on it the whole time. I still think its the worst dk game but its actually fun sometimes with friends. The game has unironically cool ideas in it and i would like to see a sequel.
Played it first time this year, granted emulated and with a regular controller. But love it. Wild Move is such an exhilarating mechanic for a racer. Deserves a switch revamp imo. Not even thst drastic, just add more control options and more stuff.
Also yeah I've totally been crushing on Kalypso since i was 10 and saw her trophy in Brawl, and need her to return, FREE THE AFRO CROC WIFE

As the WR holder for this game, pulling off long combos is super satisfying. That's also the only satisfying part of this game lol
Let’s be honest though, the best thing that this game did was bringing back Lanky Kong.
I was not expecting to hear that one goofy Dragon Ball Super ending theme that played through out the Goku Black arc at 7:24
Honestly, the game is so underrated. When it came out back then critics were bored of the gameplay and called it slow and unexciting, but the fun thing is that no one played that game for more than an hour and understood how the game works. You're not supposed to avoid the barrels and fly slowly through the tracks, you're in fact supposed to collect bananas, destroy barrels and THEN use your wild moves to rush recklessly through everything and extending the duration of the boost. It's actually so much fun and every track has those barrels well placed so you can get your combos. The only thing I hated back then was the fact that there was no online functionality. Such a shame this game was destroyed by critics who didn't understand it

We need a Barrel Blast 2 with better controls and more emphasis on combos.

this game was my favorite wii game during my childhood, It has a lot of flaws but definitely a great game IMO, I remember i'd pop the game up after I finished my homework and just racing to my heart's content. And it's the reason that I fell in love with the DK franchise.

This game is amazing but I hate the fact that most of the courses are just the regular ones but backwards or with a few twists.
This game is full of great ideas but with bad level design that doesn't use them well.

Given how PAON made use of the DK lore. It would’ve been cool to have seen theme do a new entry in the DKC series rather than a spin-off
hm, reminds me of sticker star in how the game was bad but the music sorta wasn't. Look I can trash on sticker star all I want that game is horrible but I can give it one thing, the music is at least ok.

Oh no this game actually has a few pretty damn solid bangers. Cosmic Highway is the standout for its remix of the DK Theme, but DK Falls Sunset, Mt. Dynamite Remix, and Parched Palace are all legitimate bops.
