    I did a Colt 1911 with the bars and buffing wheels from Horbor Frieght tool. Colt wanted $300 to polish it to a mirror shine in their custom shop. Saved about $280 dollars. I have a mobile detailing business and make a ton of money just polishing metal. Motorcycle parts, wheels, etc. You can do plastic headlights to with the finer compounds on low rpm. Cool video dude. Appreciate you taking the time to film and post it.

      They have the buffing bars. They are different colors for different grit. They also have the pads and pretty decent polishers. I use a Dewalt buffer though.

    What good is it to use different compounds on the same buffing wheel? Doesn't it work much better to have a separate wheel for each?

    I just saw your video sir and am just learning this way to polish aluminum as you do sir to see if I can be good as you do and see if I can get more money where I work bc no matter what I do to show I can do the same as the others I never get what I do as much as the others and trust me sir isn't a good feeling . so anyway what are the basic step into polishing I mean the main steps for cutting and what you recommend to start polishing no matter how bad the tanks and wheel can be any way you can tell me bout I want to show my boss I can do the same and if he doesn't want to help me as I help him just show him and found a better pay job

    What do you recommend on getting to hard to reach places that the wheel and machine wont fit? Ex: Top of tank directly under the cab, between tank and def tank or certain places on the steps? I started to do the tanks on my new truck last fall and that was a major problem that I ran into, tanks were pretty dull and matte. I also tried sanding on the face of one of the tanks because it had some nicks in it from stones and was the most sand blasted and found that was even harder to bring to a decent shine than the sides were where I did no sanding at all....I started with 400 grit with an electric random sander and finished with 800 on the one spot that I did sand. I even put acid to it before I started to polish so it was as clean as possible and it just left like a dirty candy look and some streaking...with the weather starting to get nicer and getting warmer out a buff wax and polish is in the future so some help and tips would be appriciated. Thank you

      @jakebald7500 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jeremy, I have noticed that using a random orbit sander makes it really hard to polish aswell, I started to use a 3000 RPM grinder with some 400 grit up to 800 grit and have gotten way nicer surfaces for polishing them with the buffing wheels. Im in no way a master at polishing but I have gotten really nice results using a normal high rpm sander rather than a random orbit sander for those nasty really pitted rims and tanks.

    How does it come out shiny after the first pass? I have to go over it 5 times for it to look like that? Is it just bc I skipped the sanding step or am I doing something else wrong?

      It has a lot to do with the quality of products you choose to use... as they say you get what you pay for. Sanding is definitely key in getting great clarity.

    alloy is the easiest metal to polish. stainless is the hardest metal to polish. I,ve done metal polishing round five years. I even got my work supplier to make a 5 section stich mop. instead off the 4 section stich mop to get the work done quicker. those airflow mops [stichless mops] are fun to use ,but with care. Most on my work was done on foot polishers. some work had to be finish with finishing mop with green rouge for better shine .Most work was done for electro plating , Wayne nice job on the tank

    If there are imperfections and the surface was never polished should it be block sanded wet sand paper on a block 300grit 600grit up to 2000 grit?
    Then polished as shown.
    Thanks

    • @THE_PIPTHIEF
      @THE_PIPTHIEF 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just a regular sander will work if its very oxidized you can start at 180 grit then 220 grit and finish with 400 gritto smooth out any deep da marks from the 180 grit

    • @waynestoegbauer4984
      @waynestoegbauer4984  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When I sand a tank I start with the grit to remove the imperfection. Using a rotary sander. Then going to a less grit paper finishing at either 600, 800 grit. Exaple: 120, 220, 320, 400, 600, 800.

      @@waynestoegbauer4984 nice technique man i usually go from 180 220 400 sometimes 800 but def gonna try the 320 as well

      for Cutting you want to be at the 6000 rpm mark. for finishing you need to slow it down to 1800-2200 rpm :)
