  • This video takes you on a trip climbing the beautiful mountain of Gaustatoppen in Norway, with its amazing view. It also brings you down from the mountain on Gaustabanen, which is a funicular and train built by the Norwegian Military in the 50's, going inside the mountain.

Worth noting that you can't drive to Stavsro parking during winter. The mountain pass over Tuddal is closed then. Then you need to drive the long way around through Gransherad and Miland(the scenic route next to Tinnsjå) and almost all the way to Rjukan.

      You got it!
I learned it the hard way when I was working @ Gaustablikk. Next job was in Tuddal. Had to backtrack and drive 95km instead of the original 19km between the two places. Lol

I would have thought the summit would be above the snow line, so it is curious to me why there is very little snow or ice visible here at altitude. The snow patches that are visible look like what you get in the Scottish Cairngorms in July which are 500-600m lower in altitude with a milder climate.

It is around 1800 meters. Though this place is usually snowy from early fall to late spring.
