    I’m a Scotsman who takes advantage of everything outdoors Scotland has to offer and consider myself fortunate to have this on my doorstep. I would like to thank you for your fantastic videos which shows Scotland at its best. People often complain about the weather but if they accept it as you do it can be an awesome experience. Like you’ve stated in previous videos there’s no such thing as bad weather it’s wrong clothing that’s the problem. You also stated it wasn’t you who first said this, I’m pretty sure it was another great thing to come from Scotland that first uttered those words publicly, Billy Connolly! Take care and I hope to see more of your Scottish adventures once normality returns.

      Hey! Thank you so much, and you comment is so right! I am a trapped Londoner and am so privileged to be able to travel our people country. I am a landscape junky and the the Scottish views fuel my excitement. It is also more dramatic in its changeable weather :-) But I will never go there with out a coat, haha. I will be in Scotland as soooooooon as I can

    Hey man just wante to say this is one of the best videos out there! I must be in double figures for how often I come back and watch it. Did the Hebridean Way myself last year and it's unreal but also so unpredictable with the weather.
    Keep up the good work man you're one of the best

    Great video Barry. I’m relatively local to your route and have cycled most of this, brought back some great memories. Have to say that I’m quite saddened that 4 people have found it necessary to give you a “thumbs down”. These must be people who can’t appreciate the extents you went to to make a lengthy interesting video of the west coast of Scotland. Congratulations, it was excellent.

    Lovely trip and impressive distances and scenery. I'm Scottish myself (overseas) and my dad used to tour the highlands on 10 speed bikes in the 1950s. But the almost constant rain has always put me off riding there.
    Maybe you've talked me into it.
    Cheers

I traveled with my van to the Hebrides in 2007, doing some windsurf and mountain biking, and I have very good memories of those islands. Barry Godin Hi Barry. That bike of yours.....is it a MTB or Hybrid? The reason I ask is that I’m looking at doing a wee expedition on the bike. When the world clears up!! Last year I completed the Scottish National Trail which was amazing (not all in one go I might add) but I think I would like to try these routes on a bike. I have recently bought a hybrid with waterproof rear panniers etc but I would line to ask about those tyres you have on your bike! They look rather chunky and I would assume they’re better for off road terrain and can take a bit of punishment?

    • @barrygodin7538
      @barrygodin7538  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@eckster777 Hi, Well my bike is a fully rigid steel framed bike, and I do have very wide tyres on that bike 29x3'' but also have a gravel bike with 700x47 tyres and you can get up to all kinds on them. So would just see what width tyres you can add-in. But if you cant go wider just give one light trail a try on your bike and see how it goes, stay safe.

      Hi Nicola! You will love Scotland as much as I love Italy :-) I do not have a map, but can list the places so you can google them and create your own route.
      I started on the west highland way from Glasgow to Fort William, then the road out to Mallaig. The up and around Skye, then ferry from Uig to the Isle of Harris, the over to Berneray, North Uist and South Usit, Ferry over to Barra. Long ferry from Barra back to Oban and back out to Craignure on the Isle of Mull. A counter clockwise route around the island. Back to Oban and down the main land to Claonaig which it was Ferry over to Isle of Arran, Counter clockwise around the Island to Brodick to Ardrossan and then rode back to Glasgow :-) Hope that helps

      Hope you have a great bike trip in Scotland Nicola. Barry chose a good route, it is important to stay away from certain roads - Inverness to Fort Augustus ( North shore of Loch Ness) , - Road from Invergarry over to Clunie Inn. The main A9 ( although the old A9 alongside is a cycle way). Main road from Inverness to Dingwall. West and North Scotland are the best.
      The main roads on Skye are not great for cycling, but the Isle of Skye is beautiful, Raasay isle off Skye is also fun by bike. The Orkney Isles are a special place, ideal for cycling (ferry from Aberdeen). Using the numerous ferries (bike is free) is a good way to tour Scotland, it avoids the bad roads and you see some wonderful Isles too.
      You can also book your bike onto trains for free.
      I live in Scotland and have covered most parts, Bikepacking & Backpacking .
      Note we are in covid Lockdown at the moment. Hope this helps. Mark.

    Wonderful video, scenery and music. Would like to do your route, or similar, as I bikepacked around the NC 500 route last year. I notice you had a tent, not a bivvy bag,.Very wise ,as i got eaten to death by the midges, and it was a choice of being eaten or suffocating. I chose suffocating ,and didn`t sleep much, but luckily it didn't spoil my trip. Just bought a tent for this year.
