Thanks for trying out my lock! I'm no locksmith and this is probably the second lock I've ever taken apart. Just a backyard mechanic. I love your videos though and thought I would try my hand at making a challenge lock! Lifetime subscriber Bill!
+Jared Callahan Where'd you get the deeply cut cylinder? I think I know why pin 5 was so loose because I have done this in a pinch... you used a piece of a coat hanger, right? I think I'm speaking for many of us when I say I'd like to see your shop with the specific tools you used to make this laid on the bench's front. Inspiring work!
+BikingMNViking I actually countermilled #3 & #5, it was just hard to see in the video. the pin flops around because it is so short and the countermilling is pretty deep. As far as tools, I used a dremel, thin abrasive disc, jeweler's files and a tap. that was pretty much it, nothing special
+Jared Callahan That is pretty much what my first guess was but then the finish seemed to be so good I questioned if you weren't a dedicated machinist. One thing is for sure: You sure made me rethink kwikset. I've rekeyed these hundreds of times for rental units and recommended upgrades consequently I have several boxes of these in my basement. Now you've got me thinking about rebuilding those. (I wonder how anti-bumpable they would be? And against an electric pick gun. Think bill would do those tests?) You just made me very glad I did not throw them all out! I wiki'ed & googled countermill, nothing but magick stuff comes up. You mean you just drilled the hole down but not all the way, just like you would when countmilling a screw in wood or metal, right? I'd still like to see your technique as to how you worked on thing so small and got such perfect grooves all the way around. Did you use the stock pins or start with longer stock and chuck it in a drill and use the dremel against that to such a perfect looking (& hard-to-defeat) sharp edge) ?
I've only recently gotten back into locksport after about 10 years (thanks to you, Bill! and youtubes suggested videos algorithm I guess...) and I don't think even in my prime that I would have been able to get that open. Bravo!
Well done Bill. And I agree, those pins are well made. Now that is a fantastic challenge lock. Like I said before, it's not the kill, it's thrill of the chase.
this hobby is very addictive. I've just started to learn. I'm getting everything around me open but it's luck. even spp seems to be by accident. Thank you for the videos.
I agree with Big Willy that normal Kwiksets are too easy; but these enhancements would definitely be a great challenge to try in my locks. Once again nice picking Bill :-D
it's actually quite nice out in Alabama right now. It's breezy. The plants are green and not on fire. But soon our month of Spring will be over and 6 months of summer will begin.
WOW, what a great lock! well made homemade pins too! Great video Bill. Ive always wondered though, those extra holes on the side of the core, what are those for? Ive seen this on other kwiksets and always wondered.
Amazing lock Jared, way to go! Bill, I have a request. Could you make the volume on your intro segment lower? It is always so much louder than the video and the other videos I watch. It causes my little PC speakers to blow out and freaks me out nearly every time your vids start because it is so much louder than the rest of what I watch. Thanks again for another great video; and if the computer picks me for the challenge lock go ahead and let the next guy have it. This challenge lock is WAY outta my league :)
my sparrows set arrived yesterday. Today I spp opened the quick set dead bolt to my front door for the first time ever. funny bill has a quick set video today. what I really need is a repinnable practice lock.
I am not a fan of quickset locks, been looking for an alternative for my house ( was looking into doing all BiLocks ).. But this is a FANTASTIC lock! Very impressive pinning!
I had to modify the chuck of my dremel to be able to hold the pins from the very end. then used a very thin cutting disc as a file to make the cuts in the pins
Bill did the drivers get caught in the grooves of the kwikset plug? I repinned a whole house full of kwiksets and had to be careful when following out the plug. it seemed like key in at 12 o'clock with no rotation was the way to go. possibly shim them if you don't have the key?

+Jared Callahan That thin abrasive disc on your dremel makes wonderful pins :) Great job on those!
Really impressed by the thought and craftsmanship put into this lock! Great work!
Great job with pins..awesome...bill, thanks for great description of what you were encountering as you went along...wickedly good video..thank you
I've only recently gotten back into locksport after about 10 years (thanks to you, Bill! and youtubes suggested videos algorithm I guess...) and I don't think even in my prime that I would have been able to get that open. Bravo!
Great looking pins in that lock, nice job Jared
Sweet! Bill, we need a video of the shop and naughty bucket. Need to see if my locks are in there.
OOOhhh I want this. Those pins are works of art. Well done Jared, and thanks, Bill!

Great craftsmanship on the pins. I would love try my luck on that lock
beautiful work on the pins and some strong pick work, hope I can try my hand at it.
Dude went ham on those pins & countermilling. I love the "Porsche engine in a rusty Lada" art form.
What an absolutely fantastic lock and a lot of time and effort went into those pins - Well done indeed both in the manufacture and picking :-)
I wouldn't mind giving this lock a shot. I love the craftsmanship on those pins :)
Well done Bill. And I agree, those pins are well made. Now that is a fantastic challenge lock. Like I said before, it's not the kill, it's thrill of the chase.
Wow I would be trying to get that open for years! Great Job Bill!!
those are some slick pins there! nice picking Bill and great lock Jared!
Probably my favorite video yet! The pic was awesome on a SUPERIOR made KW!!
Holy crap Bill, that one is mean! You should make that a 10 day PASS-IT-ON lock! I'm very impressed with the attention to detail from Jared!
Best pins certainly I have seen. Good job Jared!
this hobby is very addictive. I've just started to learn. I'm getting everything around me open but it's luck. even spp seems to be by accident. Thank you for the videos.
Very nice detail on those pins.
Thank You for your videos Bill! You're the best sleep doctor!
Those pins look incredible! Nice work.
I agree with Big Willy that normal Kwiksets are too easy; but these enhancements would definitely be a great challenge to try in my locks. Once again nice picking Bill :-D
Tough lock, nice picking Bill and nice work Jared!
Very well done Bill and some great looking pins there.
Nice lock Jared. Great job picking that thing Bill!
it's actually quite nice out in Alabama right now. It's breezy. The plants are green and not on fire. But soon our month of Spring will be over and 6 months of summer will begin.
Wow! Awesome pinning job. Really making you work on that 5-pin Quickset
WOW! Great job on those pins.
Don't know if i'll ever be able to get it open, but i'd love to give it a shot!
That may be the best custom pin job you have ever posted, Bill.
Great pick Bill. How full is that naughty bucket? Seeming how many new locks you get, I imagine the bucket must be getting full.
I need to find the c-clip tool you used. Quite handy. Searching ebay now.
Another lock slain at the hand of the master; great job yet again, Bill.
Those are some gorgeous pins. How the heck do you make those? With a miniature hand file?
Changes to the mobile site look great!
That's the only Kwikset I want locking my cabinet.
I'm looking forward to the days I'm able to pick locks like you Bill, I think it's going to be some time yet....
WOW, what a great lock! well made homemade pins too! Great video Bill. Ive always wondered though, those extra holes on the side of the core, what are those for? Ive seen this on other kwiksets and always wondered.
I'll try it! thanks for the videos Bill!
WOW. Pulling out all the stops to get through that one.
Beautiful lock just from the pins alone!
Well done! Very nice pin job on that one.
An opportunity to add to the locks I cant pick! those are some fantastic pins.
Definitely willing to give it a shot! Great lock!
Fantastic work on those pins.
Amazing lock Jared, way to go! Bill, I have a request. Could you make the volume on your intro segment lower? It is always so much louder than the video and the other videos I watch. good job Bill! that was tough!
my sparrows set arrived yesterday. Today I spp opened the quick set dead bolt to my front door for the first time ever. funny bill has a quick set video today. what I really need is a repinnable practice lock.
stunning pin work. would love to add that to my collection.
Some fine Southern devious thinking in that lock!
that lock looks like it will be impossible for anyone but an expert!
How are those pins made? Dremel?
Wow! That's some fine work!
How do you make serrations so precise? They look beautiful!
Now that's a lock worth picking! Nice job.
This lock looks super fun to pick!
Great video Bill! Thanks as always!
Crazy pins. Great challenge lock.
I am not a fan of quickset locks, been looking for an alternative for my house ( was looking into doing all BiLocks ).. But this is a FANTASTIC lock! Very impressive pinning!
Could be a competition-level lock with all that nastiness going on there.
That looks like a fun lock to pick. SEND IT!
Great work on those pins. Would love to test my luck with that one.
I got to watch this in 360p, wow. Good picking Bill.
Would live to have this lock. Can't imagine I'll be able to pick it in my lifetime but what the hey!!!
those pins look BRUTAL.
Nice pins for a dremel and some basic jewelers tool Jared. Makes me want to try repinning a lock. I'd like to give picking this one a go though first.
Interesting pinning- love to give that a try.
freaking awesome work. great job on those pins
Love watching your work lm learning so much and your commentary is great.
How do you get pins like that? A dremel? How can you secure something so small to cut it that thin/sharp? Great looking pins on that lock.
How do people make pins like that? They look so precise.
nice lock. look like I will have to get a top of the keyway wrench soon.
this would be a very fun pick!!
that lock seems quite fun. I love crunchy locks
those grooves on the core had to catch that pin.
Great job Jared as well as Bill.
i think it was Jeff Foxworthy that said "indicator....i live in Decatur"
I'd love to try this one, in the uk its hard to find locks you can fit standard picks in
good looking set of pins there.
Send that lock my way Bill!
I would love to try to pick that lock!!
Nice pins, I doubt I would be able to pick it at my current skill level but it would sure be a fun challenge!
Hey bill fantastic lock. Jared is a Master Pin'sman!
I have been trying to find a vice like yours where can I get one?
I'm in Texas right now, and its only gotten up to 84 degrees... celcius.
84 degrees celsius would probably kill you man
I'm from Texas also South tx to be exact we are use to triple digits down here! lol
I am 70%, water boils at 100 degrees celcius, therefore only 30% of me has boiled, and if I'm only 30% dead, then I am 70% alive, meaning I am alive.
What a beautiful set of pins 😉
The comment at the end "the battery lasted this is great"
Oh man, I don't think I could pick that thing open...
Great challenge lock. Thanks for the videos
Oh God, he's not using a screwdriver, it's the first sign of the apocalypse! Nasty little lock for a 5 pin.
Would love a shot to pick that. If I win I'll pass it on to someone else here that wants to try. Thanks for the vid Bill
Very nice picking once again. Wouldn't mind having a try myself
I would love this lock! good job Jared!
Nice, that will cause some sleepless nights for a beginner.
That is a nice lock. Well done. Very cool.
Great video as always bill. And kudos to Jared for that bidding :)
Glad your battery made it Bill. I'd love to win and take a crack at picking this lock.
Amazing pinning!
