  • The radiator cracked on the passenger side, so needed to replace the radiator. In the process, noticed that the lower radiator hose was different and had what is called a heat shrink clamp on the end. After searching other videos, decided to pull the radiator out with the lower radiator hose attached. The lower radiator hose was so tightly attached that I couldn't twist it off. Found that the simplest reinstall method was going to be reinstalling the new hose onto the radiator prior to installing it in the Expedition. After installing, I noticed that I was getting antifreeze coming out of this connection and put a heat gun on the hose to tighten the hose to the radiator and it does seem to help the leaking problem.

This is not a quick video. This is the guy who says Ummmm and”the white tab” every two seconds.
Drove me nuts in 30 seconds

You could have bought a '97-99 model radiator and hoses. It uses normal clamps and would bolt right in. Anything to make life easier! Good info you shared.

Awesome. Thanks for the video! my '02 expedition radiator gave and couldn't get hose. Was worried about it being loose on mine too. About to put new one in.

Carefully cut off that plastic ring with cut off disc.Remove that metal ring. You can put that hose on it like a regular hose.Use a stock spring clamp and add another worm style hose clamp to it for extra security.. 7 years and haven't had a problem with it coming off or leaking...

I watched the video without the audio track, and instead of the narration, subbed some jazzed-up Christmas music, which rendered the experience surreal..liked the documentary style pace, and camera angles, and particularly, the diagonal wipes shifting from daylight to pitch blackness. And back. Weird stuff about the hose connections, what's that about??

I changed my bottom hose and it’s still leaking

Same here. You have to put a heat gun on it to make that band shrink. If you don't, it will leak.

    Did the heat gun work?

Leave it Ford to make a crazy design

Why can't you just put a regular clamp on it.

Well...you can't this hose. It has the metal on the inside to match the matching radiator. So a regular clamp won't work. And good luck buying a hose that is formed with the curves needed without the metal on the end to be able to use a clamp. I agree with your thought, but they got ya.

U can put a regular clamp right behind the plastic piece on the hose

Because they couldn't sell a $15 rad hose for $100 if it just used clamps like the ones that have worked for over a Century now. . .
