    I do not think that this is one of the better ideas that anyone had. I think these years also enjoy this style of radiator.

    Great video. Learned how to remove that stupid lower hose to replace my leaky radiator in my 2007. Only problem I had was after I installed the new radiator and put the lower hose back on, it never did seat properly and thus developed a small drip. Rather than buying a new hose ($45 for the one with oil cooler hoses), I just installed a conventional clamp right up against the locking sleeve. No drip. Thanks guys.

    I just did this on my 2001 expedition this morning I found it was easier to disconnect the hose from the motor and the overflow tank and pull the radiator with the hose on it.

      I tried your suggestion but the fan shroud would need to be removed which means removing the fan clutch as well.

    Regular hose clamp sure would have been a great Idea Ford! .. Lol

    I just placed the radiator in my 2000 Expedition. Even though I knew how it was supposed to work, I simply couldn't get the lower hose to disconnect. I finally found it much easier to disconnect the other end of the hose from the engine block (and the smaller hose from the overflow reservoir) and lifted the hose out with the radiator. It was then simple to remove the hose from the old radiator and attach it to the new one before putting it back in.

      That is a good way to do it as well when the hose on the radiator is just too much of a pain. I have done that with some Honda's too. Glad you got it done. Adapt and overcome.

      yeah, I did the same thing with my 97' 5.4L expedition equipped with an engine oil cooler option. It was a pain in the A******** , but I was able to remove the old radiator with lower hose connected to it without having to take out the fan clutch or shroud out of the truck. I now have a new radiator and Gates quick connect lower radiator hose.

    Thanks man... My plastic band was original and had no writing on it nor did the new radiator come with any instructions. Your video was a life saver. Keep 'em coming! Kudos!!

    Just did this today. I didn’t even take out the shroud. I was able to get it with an oil filter wrench, a crow bar, and a bit of dispair. Results: A new radiator and a broken back👍

    I was introduced to this wonderful Ford design tonight while helping my neighbor swap the radiator in their 2002 Expedition. In my case, we had to cut the lower hose behind the "clamp" to get the radiator out. It took a gigantic pair of channel locks and two flat heads to get the connector off. We of course swapped both the hose and radiator, but wanted to see how the connector worked. Utterly ridiculous how they complicated such a simple connection!

      +Fixing cars and stuff The engineers complicate it on purpose... they want you to bring it to the dealer... beyond that, if you do go to the dealer, the service people will tell you, "Oh, that radiator is obsolete... Ford doesn't do radiators anymore." That's what the dealer's service person told me. I've waited three years and a month for a new radiator... Now, the technician-owner at a popular non-dealership garage tells me I may have a transmission radiator or hose leak. Wonder why?

    i just removed this the other day if you take the white line on the hose and align it with the groove of the neck on radiator it comes off as well. with that you do not need to guess the 45`

    Not all the lower outlets have the o rings. Some of the of the years have a a ridge on the the lower outlet and the hose has a space pre fabed into the hose itself where the ridge goes. Now the newer radiators from the different part stores and factory have the o rings on the lower outlet which will not work with the hoses with the pre fabed ridge that's inside of it. It will leak band or no band. This was on a 2001 navigator with the 2.25 inch core. Even without the thicker core, the 1.25 core came exactly the same way, with the O rings. This is what I had to deal with... Thanks for your post!

    What a crock! Bend the TAB? What F tab? Glad I watched the video... just turn it 45 degrees and start prying the hose off in anyway you can get a hold of it. What a pain! MY plan is to replace the both the upper and lower hose. When the lower hose gets here ( they sent the wrong one ) I will slice the hose length wise where the hose where it attaches to the motor. Without getting the hose to twist a little bit the 19 year old bond of heat cycles and time its not going to let it break free by simply pulling on it. The old hose is bonded right now... anybody removing old hoses knows that once the clamp is loosened or removed then the next thing you want to do is twist the hose in either direction. Once you get that done then the hose comes off a bit easier. I even removed the transmission line bushing to gain pry bar access to the area where force needs to be applied. Its going back on with a simple hose clamp... easy on... easy off... once installed come back a week or so later and snug it up a little and your good for years

    So, how do you end up with a need for sealant on the transmission coolant radiator or hose? That's what my technician told me, "We want to let the sealant on the transmission coolant radiator dry, it will take another day."

  • @dddddd2100
    @dddddd2100 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    So if you are replacing the hose but not the radiator, will the after market hose with a metal hose clamp work fine? Do you remove the old o-rings from the lower radiator?

    I put a 95' radiator in a 88' ford F-150 because the ones at part store weren't working. But it has an extra water line right below the reservoir drain hose, that is plugged off and I was wondering what it was actually for.

  • @WizzRacing
    @WizzRacing 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually the design is bullet proof. As the twist lock can't come out or get cut from some metal hose clamp.
    And what makes it so hard, Is people don't flush the cooling system like the manual says. As the hoses with this type connector get o-ring greased during the service. I like them as they never leak.

    Not a mechanic, but I keep the cars up. it was bear just to get all the other parts out of the way. My 1999 Ford Expedition has 230k miles on it and I try to keep it going. I was trying to get this contraption of hose off.. I try to
    watch my language, but just give me a spring clamp any day. I could not read the instructions. if you are in front of the car..Is it 45°
    counter clockwise or clockwise? Also where is the tab? I'll probably
    pick up those huge players. Subscribed. I am amateur woodworker and got rained out today.

    A simple clamp would have been a lot easier. Why in the world some senseless engineer would design this then use clamps everywhere else on vehicle.I cut hose removed radiator.
