Great bucket top chain mill, I need one of these! Thanks for the vid. I’m so curious about that square haulage shaft. Possibly an exploratory trip one day? Hope for good results on the assays!
Cool location visit Gentlmen. If I recall, that undisclosed patented mine was one of the longest in duration in being active compared to the rest of the mines in that area. You mentioned seeing some metallic sufides in the pan, that will be interesting to hear back from Reid on what it is because there is is another undisclosed mine a few miles away from that one that had assay records of 0.75 oz/ton of platinum. Maybe lead sulfide as well? Can't wait to hear the results. ~Wolfdog~
I don’t know if you guys are just taking it for granite being there, but I would’ve dug into the side of those tailings piles and got into some stuff that hasn’t been weathered quite as much as on the top. Everything is going to settle down through to the heavies on the bottom, same as anything, right what would work really good would be doing core samples with a battery operated drill into the piles in all different places
I was told about these cans a year or two ago. So worth the money just be careful and don’t pull the trigger when the spout is not where you want the fuel to go. It will dispense fuel with the tube pointed up if it below the fuel level in the can. I know obviously but it is easy to forget if not well rested or paying attention.
I am hopeful for you guys that the lab test results come back showing a little more gold than your panning revealed. That would be a sweet source of easily processed material.
Would loved to have seen a small sample from that edge of the stamp mill base. I know it would be high grading but as a separate bonus would have been fun.
That stone work really reminds me of 'The Great Wall of China" up in the Loup Loup area of Okanogan I saw this last fall. The stone work is awesome, but the mill was never completed.
A friend sent me that article! Not surprised. Talk about the Kelly mine reopening and the Atolia tungsten mine down the road. Not surprised though. That area has some high grade gold and silver. Problem is the faulting in the area has cut off many of the veins. Who ever has the money and does a good job drilling can find out if the veins continue. Apparently, the drilling shows the Kelly has ore bodies over 1,000' deep.
Pretty sure some metal dectors are setup to beep high on 'circular/disc/ring objects', and that nugget sample wasn't round, but his ring is round. I watch a lot of metal detecting hobbiest and they mention this often.
In Colorado in the 80s and 90s they started going through and processing old tailings piles and finding good gold apparently the old timers didn't have the best technology to get all the fold out.

How safe is it to rerun tailings that have been cyanide leached. Many tailing piles out here in Utah, I've been curious about but research says they used leaching processes leaving me questioning whether it's safe to process or not.
Excellent question. Research the history of the mine to see what the ore was made up of and how the old timers attempted to recover the precious and base metals. Then start off by taking a representative sample of the pile, mix it, then split it and send it off for a 51 chemical element assay and fire assay. When you get the results back, take note of arsenic, lead, mercury and other heavy toxic metals. Also, ore with high sulfur content as it could passivate the gold, which is a process where the gold gets coated and the cyanide leach cannot penetrate the coating to dissolve the gold. The gold will look brown or black. Also, use a cyanide testing kit or send off samples to a lab to test for cyanide. Cyanide is easily destroyed from the UV from the sun so there's a good chance no cyanide remains. Do a seive analysis to identify when the gold shows up. Might be below -150mesh. Also, if there was coarse gold, good chance they didn't allow enough time for the larger gold to dissolve. Other factors like cyanide and oxidation consumption can limit the ability of cyanide to dissolve the gold into solution. Flotation to create a concentrate and new environmental methods of leaching can be used to extract the remaining gold, base metals, and even critical minerals. Do the work of proper sampling, testing, even getting assistance from the big labs to figure out how to recover it. Hope this helps. Thanks for your comment!
Most likely the camera frame rate needs to be increased. Too much movement for the frame rate to handle. You see it a lot on TH-cam. Two years ago I talked to Chad on the phone and found out he lives just over the hill from where I live in Yucaipa. Right after that I sampled the cyanide tailings from the LA Mine and the Lorman Mine. My fire assay showed some gold but not enough to get excited about. When Harry was talking about how fine the grind was on the old cyanide tailings it reminded me about how course the cyanide tailings are at the LA Mine. My mine exploring buddy told me that it had mostly been crushed thru a stamp mill, unlike the Lorman that used ball mill and was much finer grind. Back in the 1970’s there was still standing a stamp mill in the general area. My buddy got permission from the mine owner to retrieve it and Knott’s Berry Farm was going to add it to their displays. When they went out to get it there was a couple of guys in the process of stealing the stamp mill. After the thief pulled out a shotgun they decided not to push the issue and a couple of weeks later it was gone! Even tho they had the thief outgunned it’s just not worth the legal side of it. Nice video you guys! 👍
