S9 with a MFT sensor and an evf! Killer! And I too would consider buying it new (and I never buy new).

Until some time ago, I didn't know which full-frame camera I would buy. Now I know it's a Lumix S9. Now I'm photographing Lumix GM1 with a panaleika lens, I love this camera😊

Save your money and wait until a better camera comes along. This S9 is lacking too many features that every camera should have these days.

For all the things "missing" from the S9 there is the S5 mk 2! Choice is a wonderful thing.

Not having an EVF on my Sony ZVE1 drives me crazy outdoors. I bought an eyecup that straps on the LCD.

The S9 is just the beginning, as was the S5. Panasonic will release other lenses in due course.
Panasonic have already stated they are not going to release anymore small MFT cameras remember ?
For Panasonic Lumix the MFT format is going to be for filmmakers with the GH series.

      @ThatMicro43Guy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

In truth Lumix said they were not going to be releasing any more of their small pocket cameras they didn’t say MFT and so it’s being taken as the small cameras with the integrated lenses rather than MFT from what I can gather talking with those in the trade.

Glad to hear you wife is feeling better. Ear infections really throw you off balance. I used to suffer from them as a child. I feel the Lumix S9 is being marketed towards the young, perhaps to get them away from mobile phones. I would also need to change my lenses to an S series, and am not prepared to do that. LUTs don‘t interest me either, not to mention no electronic viewfinder. I‘m still hankering towards the G9ii, but have now found there is no multiple exposure so think I‘ll stick to my EM1 mkiii or save up for the OM1ii! Thanks for the video, Brian.

A m4/3rds version with an EVF , hot shoe, mechanical shutter etc and the ability to use LUTs would be on my 'next camera' list.

Isn’t that F8 pancake kit lens a manual only focus? Good to see you back, glad the boss is on the mend. Oh and does the S9 have a mic jack port, some say yay and some say nay, and some don’t even mention it, anyone know for certain?

    • @ThatMicro43Guy

I agree 100% with your conclusion, Brian, a new G-X10 or 8 mk 2 or 9 mk 2 would be brilliant. Also your first comment about the S9 re "fun" is spot on, and why I am quite tempted by this camera. I see it as a way to get higher quality photos from a phone style way of photographing. I notice a lot of my own favorite photos (especially taken while away from home) are on my phone, but the quality just isn't there compared to camera photos. This is a great way to get access to those lovely small Sigma prime lenses in the C - I line up. Not sure I can really justify another lens mount system on top of EF, RF, MFT but I'm tempted! Glad to hear Mrs 4/3rds is better and it wasn't as bad as feared.

Brian -- not a complaint, but the DFD/contrast AF on your G100 grabbed my attention on this video. Your face stayed in focus (better than my G85 would have done!) -- but the focus searching on the background objects (the red van in particular) kept distracting my eye. I was watching you, but the shifting depth-of-field (so the out-of-focusness of the van would shift back and forth) did catch my eye and was a bit disconcerting. I think that that 'searching' (like the camera brain is second guessing it's focus lock on the immobile talking head right in front of it) of DFD doesn't have much of an equivalent with phase-detect AF. The pd AF can seem to search a little right when it acquires focus, but then quickly settles down and only adjust if it detects the subject moving. Yep -- the G100 is doing a great job keeping your face in focus, but it doesn't really need to be doing that shifting around of the background focus/depth of field.... And very glad that Mrs. Four Thirds is on the mend and that it wasn't anything terrible! I'm sure that the tea she has been having as part of her medication has made all the difference! 🤣

I’m wondering if it’s because it’s set to iAuto and adjusting aperture, iso and shutter speed therefore altering the DoF with different light levels as I move. Interesting. I’d better warn you that the next video will be the same as I recorded them both together

I’m not so sure about the S9. Give me a GX8 mark 2 with 30mp phase detect AF sensor. Top notch IBIS; hi-resolution oled evf. Up the quality and resolution of the rear lcd. I would buy that. Add a series of 1.4 primes. I like the size of my GX8. I too need my evf and a hot shoe. Update the GX7 and create a high quality F2 pancake 28mm for it and you got GR killer for street.

I'm still going to use the Olympus EM1mkii. It does everything i ask of it. I've tried Lumix cameras and I just don't think they feel good, and cameras are just simply not improving that much anymore. Olympus nailed it.

Glad your wife is feeling well. Feeling sick is not fun. Since we buy cameras, especially M43s cameras, life is about fun.
The two new LUMIX cameras are not for me. Long story short, the S9 is missing features I want and you articulated. I am not disappointed or upset about this. Lumix is marketing this body to content creators and I’m not them.
Both the S9 and GH7 are video centric. I want a small and lightweight body. I am a photographer so I want a tilting screen. In short, I want an updated GX8/9 like you suggest. PDAF. Audio in jac. Weather sealing. Two suggestions. First, loose the articulation In the EVF. Second, jam the updated GX8/9 features into the S9 body as you also suggest.
I agree with everything you said. I would preorder this killer body. I’ve read on several people’s TH-cam videos comments that there is interest in everything you want. I hope Panasonic is listening.

Happy to hear that Mrs is getting better. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on lumix S9. I totally agree. I’m still waiting for GX9 ii or 10. In the meantime I enjoy the Sony 7C, a small and light camera with great image quality and and an excellent choice of high performance lighter and smaller lenses. Panasonic has to compeate with Sony, Fuji and Nikon. They all have small, light and stylish cameras. Lumix G9ii has the same body as S5ii. They never bothered with a new body. I don’t know what they are thinking. They miss the mark. Even if Panasonic cames with what we want it might be too late.

I think manufacturers are just pumping out camera models just to make money. This camera sounds like a dogs dinner. There are dozens of other manufacturers who make better cameras with the L mount and with tons of features. I love Lumix m4/3 cameras and Olympus m4/3 and have 3 other camera types. This S9 sounds like a bit of a joke - ‘this is missing, that is missing, it doesn’t have’! What on earth are Lumix doing? Personally I would never buy a new camera these days, all cameras built in the last 8 yrs say are good enough for anyone, as long as they have some features of course! I would always buy used and wait until the next big revolutionary breakthrough, which is bound to come shortly.
