It's been so long now that I won't believe Ottawa gets a new arena until I see them play a game in one.
Hopefully not as long as it took Boston to replace the old Garden.
Canada might get a new capital first

Big chatfield guy, he does need to bring back his physical play he had when trying to get playing time
I prefer the current Wild colors over the North Stars colors, but I do like how it’s a third
I sure like the north stars colors on their jerseys, their "new" colors are awesome as well. Can't go wrong.
Looks like Kakko got the "shop me at the deadline" deal.
It's either that or a bridge contract to save on cap space. Drury said changes were needed, but the Rangers don't know how to move on from players.
Might be wishing thinking but I hope kakko bounces back. Honestly thought he was going to be a component in a larger move this offseason.
Loved Chatfield when he was here in Vancouver, he had a pretty complete game to be a regular in the league. But with Green and Baumgartner disinterested smh Jalen was lucky to get out of town. He's on the road to a steady career, congratulations Jalen!!!
I like the Wild's current colours especially that green jersey that Shannon is wearing in the video.
Necas would be even better if he didn't turn the puck over at the worst places at the worst times. Skates faster than he can keep up with the puck half the time. Loves taking the puck in all alone with 4 people defending like he's McDavid.
He just tries to do too much. He’s got crazy talent but definitely doesn’t play smart. As a canes fan, he frustrated me a lot
Up 46% is huge growth.
Watched Chatfield in Carolina going against my wings. He is a good for carolina and carolina is good for him. Good skater against some of our top lines and he excelled. System fits him
He's like a smaller version of Slavin sometimes , I'm glad Chatty is staying .
And the fans in Carolina, LOVE him. He has been great with the young fans.
I like the wild colours though I don't mind them leaning heavy on third jerseys like buffalo does the black goat heads
Congrats on 320k!
Fun fact, the Hawks are sitting on 33 million in cap space.
Awesome news about Chatfield!
If Ehlers is moving out from Jets, I would love to see him ending up in the same team with Laine next season. Those two would make a hell of a impact somewhere.
agree, especially considering they were buddies in winnipeg
Bring Stastney out of retirement to complete the line. (Kidding). Why not re-unite them for some lucky centerman.
@@ChristianYogendran exactly my point! They know each other so well already that they would just complete each other!
yes in the khl....
@@daledemanchuk7920 LOL
Thanks for the updates THG!
CHGO did some coverage on the Laine rumors earlier today. Baseline is Hawks are 11 million from the CAP FLOOR, and Laine’s current contract is only for 2 more years. Hawks can theoretically have an offseason that looks like acquiring Necas, Laine, Teuvo, and maybe a Tanev and still have like 20 million in cap space until Bedards ELC contract ends.
Hawks will probably have to part ways with it’s that 18th OA pick and a younger D prospect like Kaiser for Necas, a 2nd or 3rd for Laine and still have an abundance in prospects and picks for the future and more potent free agent classes when they’re ready to compete
A Teuvo reunion would be great for the Hawks
As a Jets fan, it'd be so weird seeing Ehlers on another team. I know his pass can be a little wild, but he's still a super fun player to watch. I'd be sad to see him go, but if he's going I also hope we get a decent defenseman for him. Or a goalscorer who actually scores goals (not mentioning any names).
As for him being injury-prone, it's true but he finally just played a full season. Maybe injury won't be such a big deal for him, going forward.
Man I hate how good he is against the Canucks lol. Is his passing really that bad though?
@@rubberduckie5518 Probably not. It seems he tosses the puck blindly into skates more than most, but once in awhile he boggles with a brilliant pass resulting in a beautiful goal. So it's not like he CAN'T pass. Or maybe I'm being too critical lol
I agree. I have really loved Ehlers for the Jets, and he's scored some critical goals for them in the Playoffs, but the past two Playoff series for the Jets have shown me they still need to strengthen their defensive core and structure.
@@lazylank Don't get me wrong, I'm super grateful for an insanely fun season to watch. But it's a little frustrating when we have a killer regular season, defensively, then can't hold Colorado back for crap. Now we're finishing the playoffs watching Florida basically stone the Oilers for what might be 12 straight periods.
@@KreepCA Agreed. It's a little like being a Leafs fan, LOL.
I really can't believe what's happening to the Oilers. I was certain Florida would win, I just didn't think it would be so easy.
The SCF alternate every other year between TNT (paid cable station, millions of people don't have access to) and ABC (over-the-air free tv on every tv in the US). Probably a better comparison to look at ratings for the 2022 SCF to this year.
PS I'm glad the Wild are sticking with dark green. The North Stars reverse retros are perfect as a third jersey. A nice nod to the old team without taking away from the Wild's own branding/history.
The Wild’s current colors work, and their logo is, as THG has said before, one of the best in sports. Minnesota has very fond memories of the North Stars, but the Wild are the team now. Let’s embrace what we have.
I loved the North Stars.. but they are long dead... So let the Wild be their own team.
Fantastic signing for Chatfield. Canes are lucky to lock him up at 3 AAV. Big Z from the nucks turned down 4.5.
Not surprised tv ratings for the final is up 46% from last year because alot of NHL fans despise Vegas lol. That being said it doesn’t matter to me who wins this years final. I’m Canadian so would be cool to see a Canadian based team win but I won’t be upset if the Cats hoist their first Cup either
Personally, I love the Wild’s current jersey and colors. The Northstar jersey colors are a lot of fun, but I think are a bit too aggressive and would get tiring to look at every game. Perfect as a third jersey they should def keep it as that.
I wonder if there’s a deal to be made between Hurricanes and Jets invoking Necas and Ehlers. Makes sense for both teams
Ehlers is valuable. Should command a high price
his confirmed asking price via rumors is a top 4 D or a promising prospect/high draft pick
@@ChristianYogendran A top four D would be most beneficial for The Winnipeg Jets, in my opinion. Watching them these past two playoffs, they definitely have enough scoring talent, and depth, but defensively, they have been outclassed by both Colorado and Las Vegas. I also think they could be a little stronger on the forecheck, but they did look better this year than last.
Couturier had a good first half of the season a big reason the flyers where competitive up until game 82
I think CAR could work something out with the Jets on a Necas/Ehlers+adds trade. As a Finn I'm still dreaming about reuniting Aho and Laine though (not happening but still).
Hmm, a Necas for Laine trade doesn't sound like the worst idea in the world. Two highly talented but maddeningly inconsistent players who want a change.
@@ascendedgoji Columbus would have to retain a lot of his cap hit and Laine is very prone to injury as well as mental health problems. Sadly I really don't see a world where the trade is going to happen unless Columbus throws in one of their young guns like Voronkov for Kotkaniemi for example. Idk I'm not a gm don't ask me lol
@@ascendedgojiDawg Necas and Laine aren’t even in the same galaxy. It would have to be Laine + first + prospect + another player
@@poejavelski148 well i guess you need to eat your words pretty soon bcs carolina is not getting that kind of return from anywhere.
@@Megaerajorma Probably not, but if they were to take on Laines contract, you best believe those extras I mentioned would be justified. I have never seen a player get so overhyped and overrated based on their draft potential so far away from their draft year as Laine. People still act like he has potential 💀
Laine to the Black Hawks? His contract is high for what he's produced, but if he only has two years left on the deal, it's a good gamble. The Hawks aren't going to be any good those two years and if Laine busts, as I would expect, they get rid of him when the team starts to get good, but if he can turn things around, then maybe you got a goal scorer to play with Bedard. The Hawks are in a position to make such a move, and it won't hurt them if the deal doesn't work out.
I’m guessing Kakko got signed with the intention of a trade
That what I think to
Agreed.
I think there is more there in Kakko. Then is the matter to actually get it out.
The two teams that really needed a change in their look were Anaheim and LA. I’m glad they’re getting it.
Whoa, Kevin Kurz breaking news first? Hope he enjoys being back home in Philly, his tenure covering the Sharks was contentious. And that’s putting it lightly.
Love the north star colors
For the first half of the season Couturier was terrific. The hernia news helps clarify why the sudden downturn for the second half, perhaps
Signing a coach or player to an extension is the surest way to see them dealt.
A one-year extension? I’m surprised Kakko got that; he took a mild step forward in 2022-23, then a huge leap back this past one.
SKinner to Chicago, would be a nice fit for both clubs.
Necas is a guy I’d wanna hold onto. I’d love it if they shipped him up to Boston.
Hi Shannon !...
I do think more people are watching the Finals this year. Even among fellow NYR fans who traditionally stop watching when their team bows out, there were a lot of folks fired up at the prospect of a Canadian team winning the Cup.
Wouldn't be surprise to see Laine in Chicago.
He’s a great fit, high upside and the cost to trade for him won’t be that high
@@joewestistrashproductions5422 I half-agree, depends on like you say the cost to bring him here and then I have to wonder how nicked up he is or is there a risk taking him on like with Taylor Hall.
On the Defensive front, and this is strictly wishlist stuff here, I'd like to see the Hawks go after Cody Ceci as a 3rd D-Pairing.
@@SonicSlicer I’d guess probably around a second round pick, maybe a little more. Hawks can take on his whole cap hit and have pretty decent draft pick capital. If the cost is anything more than that I wouldn’t do it but a second round pick for the upside that he has seems like a good deal to me. Injuries are a concern but apparently he’ll be good to go for the start of the season
@joewestistrashproductions5422 if Laine is healthy, I don't doubt he can return to his Jets form.
@@SonicSlicer yeah for sure, in 21/22 and 22/23 he put up good numbers he just didn’t play a ton. Putting him next to bedard and getting a healthy season out of him would probably have huge results
the weird thing is that with the Wild rebranding rumors, the Wild's 25th year is 2024-2025 (its only 2025-2026 if you take away the lockout season, which other teams don't seem to be doing..)
but it is notable that the North Stars existed for 26 years before mysteriously disappearing, and the 2025-2026 season where this 'speculated' change was going to happen would be the Wild's 26th season.
what type of wingers are Blackhawks looking for to support Bedard? puck movers to set up scoring chances? board players?
"Does the National Hockey League have a certain role in protecting players?" Not according to George Parros.
Did the Everblades really end their association with the Panthers?
One of the guys they needed and they got Chatfield for three years at 3$ million a year so good for them, step one. They have spent almost 60$ million and have three more defensemen and five more forwards to put the team that wasn't quite good enough, back together again. They are not getting some combination of Guentzel, Teravainen, Martinook, Skjei and Pesce back for 29$ million. Guentzel has to be asking for 9 and Pesce and Skjei will want at least 7, probably more. This doesn't even include Necas who may end up holding out if not traded.
Sorry forgot Drury and Seth Jarvis RFA (81 GP 33 G 34 A 67 PTS).
I expect Carolina to take a step back next year.
Hope Ottawa gets the new arena started.
Chatty at 3m is a steal. I wish necas could stay
Interested to hear your take on Laine trade request? Is he worth the risk?
If Jackets retain salary, he’s be a great project for any team.
It will certainly be interesting to see which teams are truly interested and not just calling to low ball. I get that Laine has had injury issues but if I was a GM his severe hot and cold inconsistencies would turn me off. Hard to build around someone as unpredictable as him, 4 goals in as many weeks and then 4 goals in one game. Dudes an enigma.
As a NYR fan, I'm fine with the Kakko signing. Defensively responsible with offensive upside. Hr missed Chytil S LOT this past season, and extending is far better than trading him when his vslue is at rock botton
Just a heads up, its not Neychas as you pronouncing it, with a long e sound{ey}, its Nečas with a short e sound like "net" ...so more like ne-chas...all short sounds. Thanks
Finally the return of "our" Might Ducks logo snif snif 🤧 and this is a age thing but I prefer 1990's the old style team logos and jerseys
Maybe they can have a huge M on the front vs. an N; the Minnesota Maroons, but in forest green. 😛
320 !!!
For Kakko's sake I hoped he would end up in a team that is actually good in even strenght hockey. Kakko is good at corner cycles. Rangers is more of a PP team and counter attacks.
I hope this means that Carolina is working towards clearing cap space to keep Guentzel. Not holding my breath but one can hope. He’s got the potential to have same chemistry with Aho that Teuvo had.
What were you talking about hockey guy the Stanley Cup final isn’t going on until August 4th
Justin Holl AAV: 3.4M Jalen Chatfield AAV: 3M Fantastic contract!
I think Necas could be a good fit in Columbus.
Waddell knows him pretty well too
Necas for Laine?
Shannon you see the UTAH hockey club showed off their uniforms for the upcoming season
I will do a proper video on it tomorrow. They're just placeholders for the first year, so people complaining about the lack of imagination with them clearly don't know they're not keeping that look.
Kakko is what he is as long as he's in NY. And honestly he's doing himself a disservice to not want to get out of there faster to try and jumpstart his career in a small market. I think he could still be a quality 2nd line guy somewhere else but the longer he waits the less likely thats going to happen. He'll be 24 this coming season and not a ton of guys suddenly figure it out past that age.
Yeah and every season his learning more and more to play 3rd line role. You are what you practise so i guess you are exactly right
“Not a ton of guys suddenly figurę it out past [24]”. Ummm what? Sedins, St Louis, Kreider, JT Miller, Marchand. There are countless stories of players playing well after that age lol
He’s not Yakupov lol not many are
@@thejoulesthief6841 You named 6 players. To me, that isnt a ton. And honestly there are probably 10 times as many. But that still isnt a ton.
Most of who werent picked anywhere near the 2nd overall pick either. Marchand was what? a 4th rounder? St Louis not even drafted. These are the exceptions
Top 5 guys get kept by their drafted teams longer than they should because the teams are terrified of letting them get away too soon and that player developing properly somewhere else. I dont think Kakko is very good but how much egg would be on the Rangers face if he went somewhere like Columbus and scored 25 goals. Its not completely out of the question.
Ask any Rangers fan if they could've seen JT Miller one day being a 35 goal scorer once he left NY
Shocked Kakko,was re-signed.
Need more and coots is recovering from surgery now. He hasn’t been having a great last few years
August 5th? Don't be silly, they'll still be playing in the middle of August. At least the Oilers are doing their best to ensure that there's a few more days for GMs to get things done before the NHL Entry Draft and free agency. They're doing their part.
Glad Chatfield is doing well in Carolina. I didn't like that they gave him the boot in Vancouver, when he was a defenceman who actually played a strong defensive game, something alien to the Canucks at that time.
Didn't the Everblades separate themselves from the Panthers?
It looks like, yes, they did just end the affiliation.
Looks like Vegas is affiliating with Tahoe which frees the Panthers to affiliate with Savanna and my prediction would be that the Everblades get affiliated with the Hurricanes
I guess that might explain why Vegas got the outdoor game in Tahoe rather than San Jose
3rd period should be fun. Florida up by 3 goals.
I'm not a medical expert of any sort, but as I understand it, concussions are not required for CTE to develop. It's the accumulation of repeated, less severe hits to the head and elsewhere on the body which cause the head to move violently.
Getting a concussion every three weeks will certainly not help.
@@TheHockeyGuy Yes, of course.
Again, as I understand it, from listening to Allan Walsh's podcast on SDPN, the NHL settled a class-action lawsuit about CTE without admitting there is a connection between CTE and playing NHL games. I wonder how long the NHL will be able to continue with this legal hair-splitting?
This reminds me of giant American banks and investment companies who negotiate "sweetheart" deals with the federal government, allowing them to pay relatively small fines for financial crimes they deny committing. This ensures they face no liability in civil lawsuits. Only one judge that I'm aware of had the common sense to reject one of these absurd agreements (he was, of course, overruled by an appeals court).
Couturier is the prime candidate for buyout
Ehlers will get dealt
The Wild should be red
Wild colours are great. Unless Dallas and Minny swap names.
Hey Shannon, what do you think is the best hockey name of all time.... Me... Craig Spraghorn lol
Clutterbuck 😂
Keep the Wild current colors and logo (The best logo in the league).
Playoffs should end before June 1st
Its hard to do lol. The playoffs for over 2 decades hasn't ended before june 1st
Elhers to Chicago. There, done!
Ehlers is a very good player, don't really see why Winnipeg would want him gone. Eberle was a mistake by Edmonton, Toronto gave away Kadri and Andersen, don't hockey people understand who plays to win and who just plays?
I'll be so sad if Necas leaves.
A downtown arena in Ottawa will be a disaster. I live in Ottawa and our Transit system is absolutely terrible!!! Ottawa needs at least $50 Billion in transit funding to get to a point where a downtown arena would be feasible.
The Wild colors work for the Wild. The NS colors not so much but I don't mind them using them as throwbacks. I strongly dislike teams reverting back to uniforms that date back to the 80's.
If Ehlers goes somewhere they need to find him a line mate named Danlos :p Zebra joke
bedard needs a comrade, bedardemidov!!
Utah dropped their uniforms for next season, time for a youtube short?
Jake G. To Chicago?
BRING BACK THE GREEN AND YELLOW!
Hawks can have Mikehyev for free.
Can we have Silovs instead? Soderblom is terrible.
Boston trade Ullmark to Carolina for Necas?
Posting as Nikolaj Ehlers' biggest fan in Winnipeg, my hope is that he stays with Winnipeg... and personally, I'm going with the fact that Coach Arniel said earlier this week that he badly wants Nik to stay in Winnipeg, coach does have say in who stays and goes. But if Nik decides to go, I want him to go to a team where they will recognize the skill in this guy and let him shine and not restrict him like they've done in Winnipeg to date. I will add that Nik did have 82 games this last season and he had 61 points in that period of time, with reduced ice time.
Kakko would have been better off in another organization
Trade Necas and a pick to Nashville, for Saros. The Preds have thier goalie of the future, in Milwaukee.
Necas will look so good in a Habs jersey.
Necas & Guentz should just resign with Carolina, Necas on a 5 yr, & Guentz on a 6 yr, Skjei should resign with them too. They can roll 3 lines, & a good Top 4.
Hronk should just stay in Van, same with Lindh, & Zador. Not sure why they aren't resigning Lindhol when they gave up so much to get him. Lindhol is a top 10 or 12 UFA on the market this summer, that's not something to sneeze at).
I bet Laine ends up in Was, Pit, or Det this yr at some point
@@mannyoliveira776 The cap space in Carolina is cooked. They can't give the proper raises to everyone.
Don’t you think now is the best time for Carolina to switch things up since they haven’t really thrived in the playoffs yet? I think this offseason can absolutely transform them for the better
@@ianhall6614 If they can get Marks or Ullmrk yea, but would be much better without having to include Neca in a deal. They need a #1 goalie in this current 3, 4, or 5 yr window. Bobrovsk, A.Hill, Georg, Huss, Blackwd, Vejmelk, Lindgrn, Daccrd, & Vladr all have havs 1 more yr until UFA status, & Ullmrk & Marks both havs 2 more yrs before they are UFA's - NJ can either sign them outright OR trade for them next summer or their final yr at the deadline for cheaper (2nd Rd pick + a B prospect). They can do that without having to trade Neca or their 1 st Rd'r this yr

Laine, yes. Marner...not only no, but hell no. The Hawks already have one albatross contract with Seth Jones, thank you very much.
Id feel Pionk would get the most value if they had to move someone. But hes also probably too good to move as well
Ya plus Jets need another RD even with Pionk. So no way they should deal him.
Kakko should have moved on to anywhere else.
I’ll be happy if Kakko can kill penalties.
The wild have some of the worst jerseys in hockey - they would be moronic to NOT change to yellow and green. They look like skating xmas trees out there - grotesque!
No they don't. The logo is excellent and their color scheme is unique. They would be crazy to take on the identity of a team that left town in 1993.
