I think you all are forgetting how respectful the mother was by telling the child that "those are not our horses to pet." Most people are so intrusive these days. Respect to the mother for teaching her children to ask permission before they take it upon themselves to do things. Respect goes both ways. That's what this Society is failing to remember.

I miss cowboying with my grandpa, he died earlier this year and the ranch went to my aunt and uncle and I just can’t go back because they throw salt his name and legacy with the way they operate that ranch. My grandpa was one of the hardest toughest Cowboys I ever new but was always kind when kids saw the horses when we moved cattle through the town, one time a little kid broke away from his mom, he was a little special needs boy and ran up to my horse and grabbed her legs I about got mad at the kid but my he old man stepped in and just talked with the mom, next thing I see that little boy is in the saddle with my grandpa with the biggest smile on his face and working with the old man. The world really lost one of the truest cowboy’s.
Sorry for your loss. My step dad was a cowboy, best dad ever. He died 10 yrs ago when my oldest son was three. I'm so sad my boys will never get to grow up with him as their grandpa. He was one in a million and I'll miss him til the day I die. I still have his hat and turned a few of his western shirts into teddy bears for myself and his bio daughters.

I can tell you this as a army veteran who did Time in in hell, Equine Therapy is amazing the horse knows when you're stressed and knows when you're not, a horse will read you better than any therapist all they ask is for you to relax.
This is why I’m proud of where I’m from…. It’s not just what’s in style ( the tourist you can spot a mile away with glittering boots and a dress) it’s how we live. Don’t matter if it’s Montana, here in Tennessee, West Virginia, Texas…. We will always have real cowboys and cowgirls

My friend has a ranch in Northwest Georgia. After a month of helping on the weekends my daughter was turning 4. We met up at a state park and she got to ride the 1/4 horse, Made her year.
The difference is that the family had respect and did not approach them like those yuppies did. Also, you don't walk up like you're going to get what you want before you even ask.
