      @Divinital Matriarch is a gorgeous piece in person and feels great to use. I find the Sub37 less impressive in person, and I don't love the design personally, but it works really well in production.

    • @AiynZahevSounds
      @AiynZahevSounds  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Divinital the idea or merging semi-modular synths with my euro-rack was nice until the first moment I hooked up a patch and decided nope; this isn't going to work long term. I'd love to have a Matriarch, but one thing I love about the Sub37 is recall. A natural gate would also be great but $400 on an LPG is a bit mad. OTOH is there anything quite like it?

    • @AiynZahevSounds
      @AiynZahevSounds  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Divinital That's the thing, if it gives you something unique, a whole new musical language to work with, it's worth it, easily.

    Awesome. Really great example of dialing down the gain as well. The sub37 can sound like a distorted mess a lot of the time but you've obviously figured out the mixer section :). More videos man. Please.

    • @Screaming-Trees
      @Screaming-Trees 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AiynZahevSounds Was that the on-board delay or third party (hardware/software whatever)? Also you reckon that the Sub37 has roughly the same scope in terms of the sounds it's capable producing as the Subsequent 37? The latter has greater headroom in the mixer and I wonder if I should just bite the bullet and pay the extra for that. There are significant savings to be had going the Sub37 route but I do need that full gamut of clean sounds, which, I know wasn't the main focus on the Sub hence the Subsequent.

    For some reason, in my imagination, I can hear the OG rapper Twista on this beat. A fast rapper who is actually good would sound great over this music.

      I'll repost what I said somewhere else:
      It depends a lot on what you need. I only have the sub 37, I've only heard demos of the grandmother and I'm still not convinced that I've really sussed out it's full potential.
      But here's what I think. The sub37 is very self contained, the GM fits nicely in an eco system of CV.
      The sub 37 has preset saving and a vst software editor / librarian. This is incredibly practical and critical to someone who might be using it for projects that need recall.
      The GM does sound fuller to me, but I don't know if it can distort like the sub37 and generally has less modulation options.
      My suspicion is that on its own the sub37 can go further with sound design, and it makes sense to do so since all the time you put into a patch can be saved, and you can get precise with the vst editor. It has mutilpe filter slopes which sound quite different at high resonance, multi drive, and the sequencer can modulate 2 parameters per step.
      The sub37 has 2 highly featured lfos and 2 looping Dadsr envelopes.
      So it depends really on how you want to use it, what you like working with.
      Truthfully I'd like a GM to go along side my sub37 but I'm saving for the Moog One.
      + let's not forget duophonic mode on the sub37 which is glorious distorted anarchy. It's the pad like sound in this piece I posted and makes the whole track.

      Both. If you understand one you can whizz around the other. The Grandmother is semi modular and has 256 step sequencer to the Sub37's 64 step sequencer but the Sub37 can save patches. Personally I'm saving for a Moog Matriarch which is a 4 oscillator Grandmother. I'll be happy with that alongside my Sub37
