One thing I admire about Europe, they are not a "throw away" society! Here in the US, they just tear down the older structures and build NEW. The Europeans are still living in structure hundreds of years old and treasure them! Everyone here has to have the newest and most modern homes. Give me a 100 yr old cabin any day!

Yeah, Im with you, I love old buildings! And what I have noticed it that many many modern buildings are lacking big time with craftmanship etc. collapsing, immidiately full of moist problems etc. We can and should learn so many things from the past! Thanx for watching!

@@OldForestBushcraft Yes, I love the older structures with all their imperfections! Gives such character to the home! Also, it FEELS like home, not all these super modern new homes which are built to such huge standards. I like a small/medium size, I want to have the home, not the hoime have me! When you have to spend all your spare time cleaning and maintaining, the home has you! Winter has approached here, I must start splitting my firewood, next week the cold will arrive! Thank you for sharing all of your valuable knowlege, you are so informative on knives and bushcrafting. I too grew up in a rural area and it's nice to learn from others!

I agree with you. In contrast to our times, craftsmanship in the past was fantastic.
Question . Is you house painted with red pine tar ? This year I pained my shed ( 14'X28') with pine tar and I love it. Old technology that works !

My house is painted with red ochre (punamulta in finnish). That Pine Tar sounds great! Old technology rules! Thanx for watching!🌲🔪🌲

    Some really cool history there.
I think I've said it before, but here in Canada we don't have such old buildings etc. Our country (as it is now - the modern version of it) is so young compared to your part of the world.
    Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting video - led me to learn about Lonnrot and how to make Falun Red paint. Its good that some of your traditional architecture has survived and is being maintained.
It's interesting (to me😉) that leaves are changing colour & falling off the trees where I live (43 N. Latitude) yet they are still green where you are. Also I wasn't aware that parts of Finland have a landscape that looks similar to where I live in Canada.

This autumn has been here unseasonably warm. Coldish summer and warm autumn, maybe thats why. My kind of year really, hate hot summers:) Few people have mentioned the similarities with some landscapes of Finland and Canada. Noticed that too. Canada has been one of my dream countries to visit. Maybe some day. Thanx for watching!🌲🔪🌲

I started listening to the Kalevala on audio book when I'm building stuff in my shop. Its a great story and really enjoyable to listen to - thanks for posting the video. 👍👍@@OldForestBushcraft

Oh wow, respect! Its funny nowadays in Finnish schools when people have to read it, many actually choose to read it in English. They say its easier to understand (would agree to some extent). There was discussion back in the day even in the newspapers etc. if its ok. But now people have just give up, and accepted it. Its just so old fashioned in some parts, lol. Have a great day! 🌲🔪🌲 @@emilychippie2771
