My fondest memory of this game was back when I was new to it and didn't expect the pain system to be so complex, so I ignored it and walked around, always in pain until I realized it drains your morale and sanity and that in turn also has severe effects, so I spent a lot of time just getting UTTERLY hammered at the inn to raise morale again. Honestly, with how complex it is, I almost assumed to get liver damage or an alcohol addiction from that as well. It seriously is awesome as hell. You gotta love these details man.
Between the drugs and the alcohol in this game I could totally see an addiction mechanic. Love it!
Our grandkids will be alive to see it release hopefully bruh
The only thing preventing me from buying it is that people say the only way to save the game is on dedicated spots on the map, so if you are very far away from one you can't just leave the game and come back later, losing like half an hour of progress.
@@JesusProtects That is only half true. If you are far away from a save point and need to take a break right now, you can close the game and it will create a save file that is erased the next time you load the game up again. It's only when you die that you lose your progress.
In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, there is only.....rhubarb.
Stoneshard has SUCH GREAT POTENTIAL. I hope it gets released eventually and that it is good.
Probably in 5 years, and im not even exagerating 💀 the game is awesome tho
Our grandkids will play it hopefully🙏🙏🙏
@@_Khalmyr_ I actually think that's a very optimistic estimate. I'd honestly say 8+ years
I wish it was multiplayer
Imagine you make a character with your friends and you all explore the world like dnd
Rhubarb is incredible… it adds a sourness that strawberry never could.
You want that for something like a crumble which typically would use blackberrys, cooking apples or rhubarb. Proper winter food when you want to fatten up and hybernate
The comments that I came down here to find.
ok that's true.. rhubarb crumble is pretty dang amazing
I always loves the sweet and tart flavour of strawberry rhubarb pie, or crumble. Depends on what my family decide they want to bring to gatherings.
I dislike cake. For my birthday I like rhubarb pie.
I have no idea what that is but you've made me fantasize about a lovely lady serving me some
Came for the indie games, stayed for the rant on rhubarb. Never change Splat, never change.
I've been lucky enough to be involved with this since the beginning. They have produced exactly what they said they would and then blew straight past it. Updates have come regularly and patch notes have been informative and useful. A true game development team in it for the love of the games.
No way! I’m really happy to see you’re revisiting this game! The earlier coverage of Stoneshard got me to purchase! Loved those episodes, and can’t wait to watch this one!
Yeah he did that to me too. I watched and bought it. Currently around 800h ^^ I really, really recommend this game.
Same here
I was catching up on Splatty Twitch Streams. I fell asleep and woke up like 2 and half hours later, dude had paused this game and was ranking/tier listing cereal My dude is truly passionate and opinionated on his cereals.
Splattercat - food is very valuable
Also splattercat - walks past 3 food storages without opening them
I have watched all the videos you post. Live the chilled way you make the videos, and the references you make from WH40K and World of Warcraft. I am a wow player, and collect thousands of miniatures and games, specially WH40K. All the best to you and keep the videos coming.
Nice game. I had it for years on my list, played some few years ago but never played again as it still in development. Just saw from time to time the updates they made to see what's new. It always bring me satisfaction following it.
I think when they introduce the Creation characters I will go back and play properly. I recommend for anyone this. The devs really showed their love with every update.
In Magic the Gathering, some of the cards have text on the bottom that isn't attributed to game rules. Just fun little lines called flavour text. One of my favourites is on a card called River Boa. It's a quote from a trapper character saying "Sheath your swords! Cudgles only. I see a new pair of waterproof trek boots slitherling away."
That always stuck with me, and the rant about using blunt weapons in the game to hunt foxes and etc reminded me of it.
I'm really looking forward to custom characters being released. Until then, I've played all I want of this game.
I've held off buying the game until custom characters are implemented.
Same here.
Same
same
Its not important to the developers sadly... they git my money.. but not my time till they add this
Can't wait for the create character option.
I love seeing Stoneshard every time, keep it up, and hopefully we get a series
Rhubarb as the main ingredient of a pie is definitely 3rd place to Strawberry and Cherry, and they all share the same sweet qualities. But Rhubarb is certainly the first thing you'd pick as a second ingredient in a pie. It just enhances the flavour of any other ingredient. You could have a Strawberry+Cherry pie, but both of them are competing for flavour. Strawberry+Rhubarb or Cherry+ Rhubarb - rhubarb's just there helping the berries out.
Rhubarb is the stem of a plant it is not a fruit also when baking you need a binder to hold everything together fiber, flour, bone meal ect the issue is if you use to much fruit which has a lot of water it will fall apart and flour can make it more or less bland....rhubarb is tart so its amazing with strawberry's as a pie and other deserts for more full flavor without blandness.
Rhubarb lover here, and had to comment for that remark of your lol enjoy the content keep it coming.
On the rhubarb comment: Back before modern convenience, strawberry was exceptionally seasonal. You could only really get it during a specific time and in specific places. However, rhubarb is a fairly hardy crop that can grow in a wide variety of areas. So it might not be as good, but it was always available. That's at least the historical take on it, anyway.
Stoneshard has been on my wishlist ever since splat did his first video on the game.
First time I watched you play I was sold on the game. I don’t play it often now, I’m impatiently waiting for more content
Funny, I’ve been playing it again after two years and it’s still as fun as I remember. Glad you’re still covering it!
As a spokesperson for Big Rhubarb I want to remind you all that rhubarb is super healthy for your gut. It's one of the best veggies you can have to induce positive change in your gut microbiome and it's also cheap. If you want to make a gut-boosting marmalade, cook chopped rhubarb, wait for it to cool down a bit, and then mix in some spoonfuls of inulin
Splat coming through!!! Thanks for review this one again. It’s my favorite you brought to my attention. Your the best
A couple corrections for the people looking to get into the game
1: Book vendors are not random, the current treatise merchants in the game will always sell the same books (they don't restock). The first scribe you can meet sells the all the tier 1 skill books, and the second scribe sells all the tier 2 ones.
2: You can also unlock the skills by bumping up your corresponding stats. Once you read a tier 1 treatise (you don't need to actually pick the skills, just read the book) you get to see what stats you need to pump up to get the ability to actually learn them. Normally you want to invest in a lot of these stats anyways so it's going to feel surprisingly natural. Though some pre planning might be required for certain builds.
3. Talk to the NPCs! Besides being a good source for rumors, the merchants will often tell you what it is that they are interested in buying. Different vendors pay differently for certain things, like smiths pay more for metal goods, tailors for cloth, jewelers for jewlery, etc. etc.
4. Even on full durability, weapons and armour are near worthless. You can learn this by talking to the vendors and they will politely tell you that due to the influx of weapons made during the war, there's an overabundance of them and they don't want to pay much for them. They are much more interested in spools of thread, nails, iron ingots and whatnot. Don't sell broken gear, it will make your economy a lot easier!*
5. Yes the updates are slow. Please do keep in mind that they are still affected by the war in Ukraine, as half the team is Ukrainian and the other half is Russian. This has lead to a lot of complications in the pipeline but they are actively working on it. 9/10 things Splatt criticized is something they are well aware of and working on addressing it, though they are prioritizing core systems (like the caravan that will allow you to have a mobile base of sorts).
If you have a some questions please leave them here, I would be more and happy to help out! Thanks to Splatt for giving this game some more time in the spotlight, it really deserves it and the developers are true champions for continuing development after everything that they've gone through.
Best of luck!
Just wanted to say I appreciate the looks back. Reminds me about games I already have, but haven't played in a long time. (I don't have this one, but that's fine.) Budget's fucked right now, so I appreciate my attention being turned back toward something that isn't going to cost me more money. x.x
"Rhubarb feels like remedial strawberry". Please never change Splat!
The prologue is good, the game itself is so much grinding
I figure that after you've started your third character you've earned yourself the right to use cheat engine to speed up the game
It wouldn’t be so bad if it had a proper save system. It really sucks to die and then have to redo 40 minutes of buying gear, town quests, and walking to a dungeon just to die at the entrance and then have to redo it all
Man... you can actually learn all skills with stat points now. Just need to hover over what skills you want and i'll say... +4 agility and you'll unlock it to be learned. You just need to have the basic tree unlocked. Its a very good change that was made last year or so i think. The game is a work of art and deserve way more attention that it gets tbh. Very good video tho! Much love
If you are starting with a ranged character (mage ranger), or spend some money for a bow and arrows, you can hunt birds for meat. Once dead, you can pluck them for meat, and cook them in any fireplace. Pretty good activity that I usually start my characters with.
"Whatsup guys and gals welcome back to the nerdcastle, today in the world where I play the games I love every single day so you don't have to." We don't care splat, we'll be watching you :-)
This game looks so fun. Love the hardcore style of it and pixel art is perfect cute and grim in equal proportions
NO WAY.. I was browsing steam roguelikes and saw this and thought “what does Splat think?” And you have a 1 day old video on it.. CRAZY!!
Rhubarb grows easily here in the UK, and so we grow to love it. The sourness becomes part of its charm, although of course it needs a load of sugar to counter it. Fruit like apples grow easily too, I guess, but take up more space in a garden, and - look, you're just wrong about rhubarb, okay.
Um okay splat being from the Midwest we understand rhubarb. Rhubarb is sour in flavor when harvested and so to off set that you add strawberries to the pie. This makes strawberry rhubarb pie and it is amazing. Sweet and sour combination and until you try them together you will never appreciate rhubarb. Happy to help.
Just made a rhubarb custard cake tonight and it's fantastic. Rhubarb much more sour than strawberry which makes the sweetness of the cake all that much sweeter. If you like sweet/sour stuff than you owe it to yourself to try it!
I’m a rhubarb guy. It’s great but it needs to be used properly. It adds a nice bit of sourness that balances out sweet or salty things, which is why it gets paired with strawberry or cherry so much. Even if you eat it on its own it needs some salt or sugar.
Also I worked in the wine business for years and you are 100% correct about price points. The difference between a $10 bottle of wine and a $50 bottle is significant, but the difference between $50 and $500 is negligible.
Last time he covered this game he brought up the fact that this game is being developed by a team in Ukraine and Russia. With the ongoing war in that area, they have definitely had issues to with outside of making a great game. I wish the team the best as they continue to work on a very fun game! I haven't played it recently, but I might give it another go since a new patch came out!
I have been playing the game off and on since 2021 and it is extremely charming. I am personally still waiting for character creation because I am the sort of lunatic that cares about that sort of thing. Haha
I've been following this game's development for years now, despite covid, war and the fact that some of the devs lived on ukrain and some of them on russia they never Gave up on the game. This game has such a charm to It and i Hope It makes through Early access.
Amazing start to the video😂
You can find npc trainers who can teach you skill trees. Some in Osbrook, some in Mannshire. Most skills have trainers. Other than that, there is the scribe in Mannshire stronghold who sells alot of Treatises and also the Printhouse in Brynn. Also some mage Treatises in The Rotten Willow Tavern.
There is a big gaming drought at the moment, it's not just you bro!
I have touched a triple A title in years. Been playing games like CCDA, ToME and Dwarf Fotress.
I have found I enjoy gaming as much as I did as a kid. I will never go back to triple A again.
Did you mean haven't?
for anyone struggling with starting as a mage/Jonna, i recommend fire barrage + seal of power as your first two skills. open every fight with seal of power. mages are incredibly powerful once you hit your stride
I think the Rhubarb cult is mainly built around the ease of growing, tending, and having a rhubarb plant in their garden. It's super simple.
love this game, no way you walk around with 2 waterskins inefficient !
I like the pixel art of this game
This game makes me realize I might have some interest in gambling lol.
thanks for the update on it! This game been on my wishlist, hope the war can be done soon so they release it soon too
Bleak is Splats favorite color
A note about your desires at the end splat;
1. the further away from main settlements you go the more interesting (and dangerous) the points of interest get, like bear trails and deathstinger nests (also there is an overworld boss fight I won't spoil but it was the major focus of an update a while ago worth hunting for) or witches in huts who give great boons at some cost.
2. a *large* part of the massive slow down in updates over the past year is that a large portion of there team was in Ukraine when Russia invade and the focused there efforts on getting team members and there families out of danger and into safe living environments before returning to working on the games. The made a post about it when "Rages to Riches" was the next major update and why they split it up into the "Equipment I & II" updates and "Rags to Riches" and why the games updates will be slower over the following year.
I believe they intend to pick up to greater pace of updates in the Summer of this year, but ofc they can't promise anything
You put rhubarb in a pie because you can't really do anything else with it. When you mix it with a fruit like strawberry, the sour notes compliment the sweetness of the strawberries.
Rhubarb is not a fruit, its a stalk. It's also an early crop meaning that its ready to eat end of winter, beginning of spring. Because of this it's been widely cultivated historically which makes sense as the earlier you can get a harvest after winter the lower the chances you're starving to death. Nowadays with green houses and food imports you could argue that rhubarb might not be the most important thing in the world but it probably sticks around because its easy to grow and historically/culturally relevant.
If this gets a full release it deserves to be a hit.
Remy Martin is my favourite too, VSOP is the sweet spot 👌, keep up the good work splat, love the content
Rhubarb grows in my garden. I dont really like it, but I cant stop eating it. It has its claws inside my soul.
Shift + left click to quick move an item from container to inventory and vice versa.
Press spacebar to pick up all items in container.
ctrl+ left click to toss an item on the floor(beware that pressing ctrl also switches you in and out of attack mode if your cursor is pointed at the world and not inside your inventory).
Alt + click to instantly consume food or drink beverage.
RE: alcohol and price. Have you seen those tests they do with 'professional' wine tasters where they refill high-dollar wine bottles with lower price equivalent wine and the majority of the tasters don't notice? Or the blind taste tests where the wine-snobs will give cheap wine better scores than expensive wines but they do the opposite when they can see the bottle the wine comes from?
This game remind me of berserk. The difference is you are just not guts. Forget about apostle, your character could die from canon fodder soldier. Die 8 times in just the first quest. Tutorial doesn’t do justice to how difficult the game actually is. Really satisfying to play once the ball start rolling though.
Oh boi another update on this game!! Its been a while
I've pretty much put this game on hold until they finally put in the ability to create a character
"Decrapitated" is a new term I intend to use now.
...bought this game after watching splat play it
It would be nice if they added a trainer that can teach you the skills at high cost, and have the books drop in dungeons to make the skills free as a bonus loot. Love this game, hope it gets finished at some point.
I'm allergic to rhubarb, good to hear I'm not missing much. =D Rhubarb pie almost killed me one time, because the person that gave it to me told me it was strawberry, then after I had a reaction said oh it was strawberry rhubarb. >
most npc's can teach you skills and books drop from literally every dungeon....
If I remember right the only skill tree lacking a trainer is the new armored combat.
@@richarddraggan8290 dual wield and all magics school also dont have trainer afaik
That’s literally how the game has always worked lol
Rhubarb is great, its sour, so a rhubarb pie is somewhere between a lemon pie and a cherry pie. Strawberry Rhubarb pie is the best, cus its both sweet and sour.
those empty flasks/bottle can carry water too, which you can throw at fires on the floor. I've tried dousing myself when I'm on fire, but have had no luck with that yet.
use a full waterskin
carry two. they are cheap :)
Sir, you have besmirched the good name of Rhubarb, I demand satisfaction!
fantastic game. One of the best I’ve played. Potential to be a classic imo
Haha, I'm part of the Rhubarb mafia. The best pie filling ever created...death to rhubarb naysayers.
I love this game! Can't wait for the new level art designs in the next major patch!
Strawberry ruhbarb pie. Sweet and tangy. "why not both"?
Splat: "I am playing a Hedge Knight"
Game: "Maiden Knight"
She is only a Hedge knight when adventuring in the wilds.
Also Rhubarb is a vegetable, comparing it to cherries is unfair, but Rhubarb and strawberry pie is better than plain strawberry pie.
If you like bleak settings, the anime "casshern sins" is one of my favorite stories in the genre
One of the best games I ever played. In the age of arcadey/fast paced/hack & slash fantasy games, this game is such a rare jewel. Sure it isn't perfect, but it is so captivating
You should check out the doors of thrithus as well!
@@FunkyPunk1995nice, thx for the rec
The only bad thing about Stoneshard is that development speed is glacial, otherwise it's one of the best indie games I've played.
"I get a good chance to counterblow people".... splattercat
Strawberry-Rhubarb cake is the *BEST* cake. Remember, Rhubarb is a veggie.
Always love the Stoneshard content. Its such a great basis for a game, just wish it would go a little faster. Luckily I have enough to play until they finish, but I cannot wait for this one to be done. at least a 1.0 patch.
Holy crap im playing stoneshard right now!!!! Im dagger/range dude!
I built a crit/bleed build
There's vampires and there are the.... undead. ;)
One of all time favs games. Geez it gets NUTS later on. Such satisfaction
Ah my favorite indi... i love it and also the 2hnd sword built is ...awesome.. shop them' heads off :D
Nice to see new coverage for Stoneshard, although more talking about the game instead of literally 5-6 minutes of rambling about rhubarb and brandy would have been nice.
Just came here to comment that the new update for Stoneshard just came out! Rags to Riches update. It adds a LOT
I always love Stoneshard content, but I hope you doing this video now doesn't mean you won't re-visit in a month or two when Rags to Riches Update drops
sidenote on rhubarb: if treated right, you can prepare many nice things with it with little effort, from sweet to savoury, from dessert topping to condiment to a fancy chef's game or fowl dinner. it's a sesasonal staple over here in AT, EU. just don't do the classic american (and, sadly, quite common[wealth]) thing: "raw no good", so "preparing" veg/fruit by just boiling them to death in plain water until you're left with a tasteless mush 😶
came to check out the game, stayed for the rhubarb discourse.
My understanding is that ruhbarb grows like mad. If you have some, you work hard to eat it before it takes over your garden.
Love this game! A good way to forage for mages, well I suppose any ranged characters as well, shoot nearby birds that land on the ground. Once cooked they give -10 hunger, -20 for buntings specifically and you don't need to invest any points into skinning either. Just avoid doing it in towns, apparently hunting small game in town makes you a criminal.
Go get the backpack. Talk to the priest in the 2nd town.
If Splat is feeling there's a dry spell, Miasma Chronicles and Inkbound both release within the next day, could be a good time to get some videos on those.
He could also go back in time a bit and play Expiditions: Rome. He played the prior two, but skipped the last one.
The details of the game are something that surprised me a lot. for example, when was the last time when it mattered who you sell what items to? You collected herbs? the alchemist buys them for from you for the highest price. the blacksmith takes swords and daggers, but Maces and shields? they go to the carpenter.
My current gripe with the game is that i would wish at least an extra skillpoint at the start of the game. there is currently so many passive skilltrees and skills, that the early game is way too slow and you are way too weak. the early game is more frustration than fun.
there are vampires... and the undead... 🤔 😄
My friend you don't just make a Rhubarb Pie you make a Rhubarb Yellow Custard Pie where the Rhubarb pieces cooked/boiled and cut in 1/2" or so squares are floated on top of the custard with thin strips of brown cane sugared pie crust over the top of it all and then backed to a golden brown, (not Bavarian Cream but actual Yellow Custard). Then you have something special and actually my favorite of all pies, the King of pies if you will.
been following this game a long time. amazing just developing really slow
bro, you do new games everyday, chill! XD
He doesn't know how much money he's going to get reviewing each game. Could be $1000, could just be $30 or less. It all depends on how many views he gets. Yet he somehow could afford a house AND home renovations (he mentioned that in passing) as well as fairly nice stuff like decent priced booze and and not just bottom shelf rotgut. It's like being a taxi or uber driver or a restaurant server, you don't know ahead of time how much money you'll get each day.
He's a real working youtube reviewer. Just like any other working person he's got to work every work day to make money.
i like treating my characters injuries in games too
Rhubarb is really easy to grow, you really don't have to do anything. And it is available earlier in the summer. Cherries and strawberries ripen much later and by then the Rhubarb has gone woody.
27:05 You could also sleep at campsites or buildings that have a bed/bedroll in them. I tend to sleep at camps near my contrasts to save right before entering that way if I do die, I don't have to walk very far and redo very much
There are also more types of points of interests. Like there's a witch's hut, there's a bunch of abandoned buildings. Hell I found a farm that's still active out there
I just manually copied save files because the game doesn't respect your free time
@@LoLaSn that's too much work for me lmao
@@zeluck5252 It's very quick, and saves way more time than running across multiple empty maps to get to where you want to go.
Although idk how the game plays now with bedrolls
@@LoLaSn well like I said, I just use camps near the contracts and such. That way I won't run across the empty maps
This is an excellent game but do implore people to have patience with it. It's rough, ensure you get the basics down by beating the tutorial, it'll take you a few goes (yea it's that hard).
1:12 does the hedgeknight require a shrubbery?
