Bloody love Skeleton Warriors. I remember one Christmas my mum gave me three of them. I’d never heard of them before, so I hadn’t asked for them, she just thought they were something I’d probably like. She was right and I loved them. Amazing toys.
You've inspired me to sculpt playmates style action figures and I'm having a lot of fun ! Thank you so much for sharing your passion with us ! I am 19 so I never played with figures like that and these designs really grew on me !
i have metal rack shelves that hang from the ceiling , i used super small zip ties to keep them stand it works pretty well, i can send you a pic if you want
When I was young, I only got Dr. Cyborn before the line was off the shelves for good. Loved him, but he never stood on his own. Even fresh out of the package, his legs didn't cooperate (and later his robot hand snapped off)
I absolutely love Skeleton Warriors, but I do agree with a lot of your critiques, especially their issues standing. Shriek actually came with a small stand as an accessory. But to your point, the sculpts, tooling and attention to detail is so much more complex than what was required for a kids toy, and I appreciate the shit out of that. Any time toy designers of the 80s and 90s went above and beyond in creating something truly special to capture kids' imagination, you've gotta hand it to them, Mighty Max and Toxic Crusaders bring other examples of this. Another great episode mate!
@@ScottCrusher also, completely pass me by that shriek came with a stand, The figure that I got as a kid must have had it missing because I never remember owning one with mine haha
Thank you Theo for mentioning rub paint job but everyone should know about wash painting job first? Most efficient & quick style painting is called a wash and then you do a rub after the wash?
The glyos compatible reboot figures from like 2010 were pretty cool, they did standard skeletons and Baron Dark but the kickstarters for more characters didn’t go anywhere.
I loved these as a kid I only had the Barron but I remember looking at the back of the card dreaming of having the others especially the one with all the arms . Awesome vid mate
Really cool line, the humans probably have more articulation because there is more space, by having muscles it is easier to put the articulations in there, but that is just me speculating
I used to watch the cartoon back in the day and the intro was simply awesome (it is still stuck in my head). I had some of them (mostly the bad guys) but I sold them cheap, which I regretted years later. I have just started to buy them again, I only have Baron Dark atm (I bought him loose at Horror Con this year). He has the gun but I was unsure what pieces were missing. So this video is a really useful guide, cheers 👊🔥😁
Great line! I'm a big fan and I liked the comics and cartoons too! I'm agree with you on the pro and cons..😊 Excellent video bro.. They had color variants on gems too...and I think.they got relased twice...I got different blister stickers. The poster inside is badass too
Yeah all of mine require foot stands to keep them up. Getting them pose on the horse and vehicles and can be a challenge as well but man do they all look awesome!!!
I love a dry brush especially gold silver copper you name it’ honestly paint wash is the best technique followed by detail and or drive rush as a final touch not a beginning paint job
Really enjoyed it theo! I used to have some but sold them. You're making me want to get them again though 😅 That legacy of main figure looks ans sounds like it will be great! Never played the game
Theo king, you make plastic I made my first set of 4 throwing knives sourced from leaf springs, basically copied professional design. I do paint plastic! Warhammer professional told me that my work is standard and it’s a guy that trashes people so I was very proud
Still in two minds about collecting them, sold mine (as you know 😂) and actually today just got some back! Do I keep them this time? Let's wait and see! Haha great vid mate.

Totally agree with you. Mine are the exactly the same. So difficult to stand up. Shriek’s the worst. Only have to look at the cabinet and she’s over! Do love the range though. Legacy of kain games are coming soon on an evercade cartridge I discovered today.
I love this figure line. Yeah they are awful in the standing department. This is one of those lines that has insane amounts of variants. Each figure has a few different jewel color variants. Plus armor variants. It's crazy.
I have the collection and they have trouble standing so I use GI peg stands. I’m only missing warhorse. And now I’m trying to collect all the gem color figures. The figures were issued with different color gems and weapons.
Skeleton Warriors are a really fun line but because of all the issues that you stated I just pin mine carded to the wall. 😂 Thanks for the review homie. Great vid.
Dope toys and cartoon,my little brother and I were obsessed with SW,had the toy line in full, they were rad and we were both obsessed with Soulreaver…absolute legend of a video game…stylistically amazing Great video T…smashing it as always yo ✌️🫶🏻🇮🇪😎
Wild line. They completely went under my radar back then, I totally would have collected the entire line when I was really into Army of Darkness. A bunch of these have been popping up mint on card at Mandarake recently. Guess somebody brought a collection of them to trade in for sofubi or die-cast robots. Very tempting when I find them here - not too pricey, but just enough to keep me from snagging one on a whim. Will see what happens tomorrow when I go back.... d*mn you Theo! 😜
@@TOKYOTOYBANZAI yeh man, luckily there's still a line that do go for a good price comparatively to most vintage toys that came out around the same time, especially playmates! Id say snag one, and then see how ya feel 😅👊
Like you said Shriek was only female character in toy line but cartoon did have another important female character as well. Shame that she didn't get toy because over all humans didn't get that much attention when it comes to Skeleton Warriors toys.
I didn't know _Skeleton Warriors_ even existed until my teens, but it's a pretty impressive-looking line. Discovering *Playmates* made them too is icing on the cake. 😁 The Skeletons themselves really feel like a mash-up of _Army of Darkness_ and old school _Warhammer Fantasy_ - real *Vampire Counts* vibes. That being said, I do see what you mean about the hero and villain designs feeling a little too different. Honestly, I prefer the look of the hero characters because of the colours, but also it's easier to know what I'm looking at. The heroes are super clean and animation-like, but the Skeletons are messy, more textured and exaggerated in their sculpts. With that much detail, but I don't feel there's a visual anchor point to latch onto - something that makes them immediately identifiable, either individually or even adds a general visual *pop,* like Lightstar's gold skull chest emblem. Prince Lightstar looks awesome, btw. I'd have grabbed that in a second, if I'd ever seen it in a shop. Hope the casting work is going well! 😉
Just coming back from a Phil Tippet-career retrospective talk with the master himself and a screening of «Mad God» only to find a new video up and ready to enjoy with my midnight kebab, perfect timing :)
I agree the human characters feel more like they’re styled like TNG figures than the rest of Skeleton villains are. However, I always felt they were really solid, and appreciated their more neutral posing and somewhat advanced articulation for toys at similar price points at the time. My biggest problem with Palymates era toys are those awkward stances that force their legs to only really work in a single poses (as you noted with how impossible it was to get the skeletons to stand). Ironically, my only issue was how brightly colored some of the accessories were, since they seemed so out of place amongst the more natural colored characters (which felt very unique at the time).
Skeleton warriors are great but i find are always a pain to stand up. As you are making figure now have you thought about making any figures that were missing from 80s/90s line like the lady good guy from skeleton warriors?
Damn Raziel as a figure is genius, hoping we get a remake/remaster of those games soon. Maybe make the figure's scarf come off? his jawless head is too cool not to see xD
Legacy of skin was one of the best vampire franchises ever. It really explored how vampires aren’t just monsters but beings that are part of the balance of the world.
This line was cool, but the skeletons were the bad guys and they looked cooler. The human were the good guys and they looked lame compared to the latter. One huge reason the line didn’t succeed imo
I always felt Grimskull was the only decent hero/good guy in the line. I remember them when they came out. I sorta wanted them and watched the TV series. Wish I had bought them on clearance when they killed the line. I have a few figures from it. All loose. All missing parts and accessories. I was working on making a few into custom undead skeleton warrior figures to go with my MOTU classics figures.
I found some more at a local con over the weekend. Much closer to complete but loose. Three came with the little fold out poster that has a quick one sheet comic on it. Kinda sad that they never made the female human character, Talyn. Anyway I'm a lot closer to a full set than I was after buying these. I need to dig out the rest of them that I have and try to display them all properly.
