I was about 19 or 20 and I was driving with my mom in the car. I accidentally ended up in the wrong lane, and I exclaimed "Oh crap!". My mom told me to watch my language, than went home and told my dad that I "used the c-word". My dad, who is not quite as sheltered as my mom, took that a whole different way, and the two of us had a very awkward conversation before things got straightened out. Yeah, I was pretty sheltered.

My public school in elementary school, pulled Harry Potter from The School Library, but we could bring our own. But weirdly the pledge got banned to. So I was brought up Christian, but not too sheltered. So I was kinda screwed on both parts

I didn't even know of its existence until I was about 12 or 13 and somebody had used it in graffiti on a bridge where we often walked. I thought it was the stupidest word ever, and lacked the satisfying ring of a h---- or d---.
I am 21 and really didn't hear any swear words until I was 17 or so --- to be honest. I wrote a 500 page book when I was 15 and never knew f*** even existed.... LOL but wait, it wasn't really funny.
Yeah my score is 28 I grew up watching veggie tales, eating organic food, only having sleepovers about twice a year, and reading every. Single. Book on our 8 bookshelves.

Dude, my mom wouldn't even let me wear anything other than a shirt and pants because every other piece of fashion is weird for her... EVE N THOUGH 80% OF MY SKIN IS COVERED. When I was about 11 or 12 I was talking to my much-less-sheltered friend at church about a youtube video I really liked, which of course I had watched only because my dad had showed it to me, as unsupervised youtube watching was unheard of in my home. It was a video of five people playing the same piano, I had recognized the song from a snippet of secular radio some time before (most likely in a mall or grocery store). As I recommended the video to my friend, I told her they played "you don't know your beautiful" by Justin Bieber. She corrected me saying that that song was by One Direction. Puzzled, I replied that I thought Justin Bieber was part of the band One Direction...
...I had no idea why she was laughing...

Theres a family I babysit for on my street who has managed to raise their kids never hearing the word no. Instead they trained them to ask for an alternative option. So many times when I make lunch or dinner they'll say "May we please have an alternative?"

Andrew Rockhill ikr, although, by "courting," they just meant no casual dating. Even those of us who were also sheltered thought that was the dumbest idea. It was probably more likely they didn't quite like the guy and wanted to stifle the relationship. Oh yeah and she was 18 at the time.

Dude, totally same. The movies rating system was confusing me as to what score to give because there was different and completely weird systems for how much violence and whatever was allowed from "real" or "historical" movies and documentaries, but most fictional stuff was right out. Which looking back on is pretty messed up... "Anything imagined is of the devil, but here's all the terrible things that actually DO happen! Now go to bed and don't try to tell us you're having THAT many nightmares... That's just unrealistic!" XD

Sheltered kids could have a fun childhood. I scored 15 (though i think it should be higher because I may have misscounted) and I just learned to make my own fun.
Being sheltered you learn not to depend on others or outside influences to bring you joy, and instead create your own happiness.
All in all i would say I had a great childhood.
I'm in the oh so sheltered category and I did get a fun childhood, whether it was proper is a matter of opinion. But it was fun!

Oldest in my family, I couldn’t say “shut up” until I was at least 12. My moms theory when I was growing up was that she didn’t want me using it against authority figures, but it was fine to use on my siblings once they got old enough to talk?
I'm 25 and still not allowed to use that one. A kid in my class made me cry when I was 7 because he told me to "shut up" and I thought was the worst thing you could say to a person.

Christina Long he didn’t even get into dating (not a chance) whether or not you could use the internet (i could only use neopets lol) what books you were allowed to read (tbh anything for me) what your bedtime was (8:30 till i was like, 12 when i could stay up till 9) what clothes you were allowed to wear (nothing that shows my stomach and rarely ever skirts/dresses more than an inch above the knee) or if you played sports with a christian homeschool league (aka the only sports i’ve ever played) or how old you were before you could text (13) or how long you were allowed to use electronics (as long as i want after 3 on a school day if i was done with school)

My older brother and I shared a flip phone for years, simply because we had to have a way to contact our parents when i was babysitting, or we were helping out with something, all that fun stuff. I then had my own flip phone until i was 15, when the literal only reason that i was allowed to get one was because i had lost my phone and our phone service was no longer allowing new flip phones, so we couldn't transfer my number to a new flip phone. Since i was babysitting almost every day at the time, i definitely needed a phone

I was pratically looked at every couple with children like, "Yep...I know what that couple did to have those kids..."...even my parents. And I could never look at anyone normally anymore..well that weared off after a few years. But I was too stunned throughout that time XD. Don't worry! As an adult it might actually be better, you didn't miss any years of your childhood, I bet throughout your childhood years through 0-18 or however old you are now were happy. Lol, I got 23 points! 😆 So Oh-so-sheltered. I kinda knew I was pretty sheltered as a kid, but I was aware of all the stuff I was sheltered from. The weird part was stuff like "darn" and "snap" and "shoot" and "gosh" were frowned upon by one parent, and used sparingly by the other. It's funny to think about now, because I'm functional in the professional world where people say and do all sorts of stuff, and it has never phased me...
And I'm rambling.
Anyway, gotta' say I love the channel! Found it a few years ago because of the "You Might be Homeschooled If..." video, and came back to it when I got my own account. (Yeah, yeah, I'm sheltered.) But, this is one channel I will always love because I don't have to worry about any "iffy" content, ever. If I have a bad day, Blimey Cow is the place to go. It's cheerful, clean, christian (wow!), and in short, sweet segments that fit into any busy day!
And now as I'm reading this over, it seems to scream "HOMESCHOOLER" and "SHELTERED", but I guess I'm proud. We homeschoolers do alright. Keep up the great work y'all!

Lol, after watching the Christmas story my parents convinced me that "fudge" was the actual word that Ralphie used... needless to say I spent alot of Christmases making sure my relatives knew I was referring to the chocolate dessert when saying fudge, and not trying to say a bad word.

Yup wasn't even allowed to sub out hate with despise, so my brothers and I got really fancy cracking out the thesaurus with detest and abhor. Also couldn't say bloody to describe something filled with blood. eg "That cut was covered in blood" instead of "That cut was bloody."
We couldn't say "bored", so I ended up just substituting "monotonous", even though the words are subtly different.

We were banned from Ninja Turtles for a little while because my brothers got too violent. I was only allowed to have sleepovers with three certain girls, we weren't supposed to say "hate" or "oh my gosh" but it wasn't super enforced. We basically didn't have TV (Barney and Mr. Rogers when we were little) and video games were Atari until we got a Wii.
I don't mind my sheltering. I'm actually very thankful for it. I see what my little cousins have to deal with at their young ages and it makes me so sad. (They go to public school)

The only reason I couldn't watch it was because my mom thought it was a really dumb show so me and my brothers never really watched it.

On the other hand, though, Batman: The Animated Series is one of her favorite shows, so we got to see plenty of that growing up. I found it amusing how that is apparently one of the big milestones of "shelteredness" according to this quiz.

Not sheltered at all.... and I have the mental baggage to prove it. I learned every single cuss word from my father and was taken (by my father no less) to see Jaws at the drive in three times in a row when it originally came out. Had nightmares about floating heads for years. I am way older than most people who watch these videos but I have to screen them for my kids, who are sheltered to just the right degree. :)

I was speaking purely tongue-in-cheek. The fact is that at 47 I need a pretense to watch these videos because I do find them funny and my kids find them funny but it seems weird for me to watch them for no reason other than enjoyment. :)
Yeah, I'm a little older than the target audience, too. I was sheltered, though, and am thankful for it.
IMO the right way to shelter kids is the way BlimeyCow described, whereas not allowing them to experience failure or develop independence is the wrong way to shelter kids.

If they had an older brother, not allowed at there house, but friends could always sleep over at our house, even if my teenage brother was there. If the opposite sex was sleeping over, we were all banned from the main floor all night, no matter what. Want a drink of water? Sorry. Want to watch their movie with them? Face punishment. I never found that fair. Trust me mom. Nothing is going to happen with me and my kid brother's friends.
But, now I'm an adult, my parents habe slightly changed those rules for my siblings and become slightly more relaxed. But that's how I remember it growing up.

My mom wanted us to grow up with a healthy respect for witchcraft and magic. And she didn't want us to take dabbling in it lightly. Narnia was late to join us, but once she learned more about the author and the parallels to Christianity, it was ok. Now that I'm older, I just have no interest in the serious. But I did watch game of thrones... careful to avoid graphic scenes.

I wasn't allowed to read Junie B Jones as a little kid, and then in Jr high I wasn't allowed to read Harry Potter (and still havent) and I snuck home The Fault in Our Stars from the school library because I knew my mom wouldn't like it. If I was the type to put down a book in the middle, I would have, but I just can't do that. I felt like a rebel reading dystopians like Matched, The Selection, and Divergent, even though my mom read them too. I was raised on steady historical fiction and still enjoy a good clean Georgette Heyer or Jane Austen regency romance. Everyone else my age is reading (inapropriate) teen romances or gory dystopian novels and I'm just enjoying the shelterd life :)

Not really. We didn't read Harry Potter but that was just because our parents weren't interested in it so it wasn't in our house (otherwise we would've read it because we read everything in the house). They actually gifted us Matched and Divergent as teenagers.

I got 10. I'm not sheltered in most of these things, my parents were pretty chill about TV and movies and stuff. The only ways I'm sheltered are that I don't cuz out loud. I know words, and unintentionally think them, but NEVER say them, and then I'm sheltered in sexual stuff, so I'm sheltered in all the good ways! 😊

So... I'm public school but! Up until I got my own phone, I was only allowed to listen to Christian music, Teletubbies made my mom uncomfortable, and my mom made my little sister wash her mouth with soap after she called me an idiot. We only saw Spongebob when we went to my gmas house because we didn't have cable.
As far as Christian music is concerned, I listen to Imagine Dragons (*gasp* the scandal!) Oldies but clean rock like Dream On By Aerosmith as an example.
