    Very cool! And thanks for sharing this information. I purchased a MX125 for about $200(tax included). I've actually been riding it more than my 4yo son around our property; I'm 155 lbs grown man lol and I'm extremely impressed it can actually cruse at a decent speed with me on flat ground. Any incline with me on it and it almost grinds to a halt. I do assist it taking off by pushing with my feet, but once going it gets up to and maintains it's full speed, surprisingly; and the motor does not get hot at all.
    My first mod was simply to install a second identical battery in parallel just to increase it's ride time. I took my time figuring out where and how to mount the second battery, and the best thing I came up with was placing the battery where you did with terminals facing the front of the bike like you did, but with the negative terminal at the bottom closest to the motor and the positive at the top closest to the seat; This slightly keeps the center of gravity lower compared to the way you mounted and points the terminals in the best direction for routing the wires. I then used 3M Gray Heavy Duty Foam Waterproof tape to attach the battery to the frame under the seat; I clean the surfaces the tape will be attached to with isopropyl alcohol first for the ultimate bond; then used two very large HVAC zip ties to completely secure the battery to the frame; It is SOLID, looks clean and can barely see the wires. I made the battery wires long enough so I could route them in to the housing along with the other wires(no case mod needed).
    What brought me to your video was searching if the original motor controller could handle 24v. I'd like to install a Heavy Duty DPDT 6 Terminal 3 Position switch where a gear shifter would normally be so I could shift the bike from 12v(parallel) to 24v(series) at the flick of the switch while riding. I've done this mod with a cheap 6v quad and it works perfectly. Now my question is can the MX350 motor controller handle going down to 12v? And I'm wondering if the original 100 watt MX125 motor can handle 24v from the MX350 controller? I'm assuming when you tried the original MX125 motor controller at 24v it fried?

    I’m pretty sure kids shoes were backwards, but little man was killing it. Props to Dad of the year!!
    That might be why he was wobbling around the circle

    LOVE the video :-) - No matter where you are, whether it's a quarter mile away or half way across the world. The most important thing in life will always be the people in this room, right here, right now.

    I'm waiting on my 24v 150w motor to come in. I ended up wiring two 18v makita batteries in series to a 36v to 24v transformer). Also a 24v controller with the variable speed throttle (which i totally recommend. Looks like I have to order a new chain as well, thanks for the heads up.

    • @desvadeos

      Do you know if the variable speed controller would fit to stock mx125?

    That thing is going to need a variable throttle. I know on/offs are cheap, but they're down right dangerous, in my mind.

    Made my 7yo kids razor sx500 into a three speed 48v motor and lithium 20ah battery upgraded. Bike probably total spend $750
    (Got bike used $180)
    Made my 4yos mx125 into a 24v like this plus a variable speed controller and lithium 24v 10ah. Cost with bike $500.
    Overclocking with a DeWalt battery stained the 12v motor on grass.
    My impulsiveness and avoiding doing it twice I spent extra.

    Garrett, grateful to you for creating and posting this video. We have the MX125 and my son is asking for more speed. We have the parts required for the upgrade (thanks to your amazon links) and ready to do the work, but just one small problem; I have no mechanical talent, not an ounce. Would you be so kind to share your video in real time (without the fast forward funcitonality)? I can provide you an e-mail if you're willing to share.
    Please let me know.

    If you want to work on his form and lose those wobbles then maybe have him put his shoes on the right feet before he walks out the door..... GAME CHANGER.

      he was going through a phase of shoes on the wrong feet, he now has a pair of Alpine Stars boots (can't put those on the wrong feet) still wobbles a bit though, lol

    Thanks for this video. My son's bike just quit an hour ago. I'm guessing it's the electric motor but I haven't dig into it yet. We've been running a 18v drill battery for like 6 months so I'm surprised it held up this long seeing as it's stock.
    I'm debating if I want to upgrade his 125 or just get a pw50. We live in a neighborhood like yours so I'm sure our neighbors wouldn't appreciate anything that uses gas 😂.
    I love these little bikes though. They're game changers.

    • @GarrettFunkhouser
      @GarrettFunkhouser  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The electric is nice because its quiet, the 24V upgrade is a noticeable difference but if your son is already comfortable on the bike, go with the PW50. My son went gas about 6 months ago and its much better for offroad (plus when the batteries die, the trip is over). Ride height was an issue on the 50cc, but I swapped the rear shock for a shorter one and he was good to go.

    How did you make the motor fit considering the original 12volt motor sprocket has 7 teeth? The 24volt’s mostly have 9 or 11? Is it possible to change sprockets?

    • @GarrettFunkhouser
      @GarrettFunkhouser  ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to grind (dremmel) out the hole for the larger sprocket to fit through (see video)

    Thanks for this awesome video. My 4 year old wants one from Santa.. Hell get one, but i know he’s about need for speed. I have no knowledge, but willing to attempt to do it. Can we do this with a lithium battery?

    • @SaltyArmy
      @SaltyArmy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got this for my 6 year old from Santa as well! And yes, you can do lithium. Plus, as he stated at the very end, you're truly investing at least another $90+ just for this type of upgrade for roughly "3-6 mph" higher depending the terrain. As well as the amount of labor involved also is something to consider. However, I recommend using it how it comes first. Then after they get used to it, then begin thinking of the upgrades! Trust me, it's plenty fast enough already for any normal 4-6 year old. Obviously, for those more into the motocross lifestyle and kids who can ride them at a much younger age, this is a great route right away or just go with the mx350, or higher now & the prices are still great currently. But again, I think for the normal average child between the ages of 4-7 typically that can just ride a normal Bike, I would keep it as is when it first comes to allow them to get used to it! These things can legit carry grown 150+lb men on them "as they come"! So hopefully that helps with any information! I'm keeping mine as is until my little man gets used to it at first, then I'll think about the upgrading possibly. Also, definitely invest in one of the "$40-45 dollar range" Full Helmets also! You definitely don't want them riding these with only a normal pedal bike helmet, as they could still easily hit their face. Anyway lol, sorry for the long post. Just thought it's cool this is a popular toy for our kids this year & glad to see others are as well! Hope y'all have a very merry Christmas! Take care!👍

      Mine too. I replaced the battery with one of my e bike batteries with a step down from 48v to 12v it lasts so so long. It goes a good 18 miles on one charge

    • @GarrettFunkhouser
      @GarrettFunkhouser  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would guess the batteries are unbalanced, its always best to buy two new batteries when running in series (that way they are mated). You could try charging each battery individually and see if that fixes the issue, if not I would just buy two fresh batteries.

    Does it have more bottom end for hills and grass? Or just top speed. I did the 20v dewalt battery conversion and its faster but still not cutting it on hills. And i haven't had luck finding different size sprockets
