- There is a fundamental question to ask ourselves? Should we live sustainably for the Earth or ourselves?
Ourselves is the answer.
Selfish? No! If it’s not sustainable for us during our lifetime, it is definitely not sustainable for the planet. Because the earth will survive. It has lived for millions of years before humans came along. It is only we who are finding it difficult to live with rising levels of heat, all types of pollution (air, water, soil) and harmful chemicals that infiltrate our bodies (preservatives, emulsifiers, taste enhancers, artificial colours, or synthetic fragrances) leading to egregious and invasive diseases.
As we celebrate Earth Day, join us for a fun free-wheeling chat between two people who are passionate about sustainability and have built it into their personal and professional lives. They talk about how they see sustainability in different aspects of product and service design. Despite coming from opposite ends of the “sustainability value chain” and completely different spaces, they resonate so much that they are almost always finishing each others sentences.
And do share some ideas that you have on how we can celebrate "Earth Day" each and every day
Hamsa Iyer, General Manager, ProEarth, a firm focused on solid waste management, has over 12 years of professional experience in different areas of sustainability, and is an inveterate promoter of ideas in her personal life too. Hamsa often picks them from different social traditions in the large tapestry of India, a country or rather a civilization that has “sustainably survived the longest in the world. You can get ideas on practical and easy practices to adopt in your homes from her Instagram handle @eco_nut
Geeta Prakash, co-founder, Parama (the Ultimate) Naturals, turmeric-powered 100% natural skincare and wellness, which has built in sustainability from design concept to implementation along the entire value chain. In her personal life, Geeta has spent many years volunteering to renew the bio-diversity of Pune tekdis (the hills and green lungs of Pune), clean up litter from the hills, rivers and roads alike, long before it was considered fashionable, and has taken these experiences and learnings into concept, product and packaging design aspects of her start-up venture.
