That low C in Heldenleben was thunderous. Almost sounded like a heavy metal bass guitar type tone. Amazing playing; thanks for sharing this and discussing these excerpts.
I was at Bassworks this year and got to see Derek perform live. I was working on Otello earlier that day and he heard me, but didn't say that he would perform it. It was an honor to hear Derek and Tracy preform here.
holy cow this man has such incredible double bass orchestral chops! Crazy sound for all of these pieces. so emotive of the music Mr Derek! A lot of people say German bow is advantageous for orchestral playing but as a French bow player myself I've always thought of them as equal and this is certainly proof. Thanks for the music!
Jason great approach! This was a very helpful watch with your observations. Your comment about playing in the string took me back many decades to lessons with Herman Jobelmann - he would insist on engaging and "pulling" the string before actually drawing the bow in scale work to drive a full in the string sound. Derek if you see these comments - you do an amazing job delivering the core of the sound! Bravo!
Yep put the good headphones cranked up the volume and gee... What a sound! What sort of bass is it? Some very nice work. But I want his bass! LOL :-) Thanks Jason!
Me as a Violist,I also love very much the Kontrabass, the Kontrabass has more Reportoire than the Viola 🤷,the Viola has the less of all Strings,c'est comme ça🤷. I love the Kontrabass in both ways,Classical and in Jazz,by the way,Ron Carter,a phantastic Double Bassist!!! 👌 Mercie for your nice Show Introduction 🙏🎼🎶🎻=à la Double Bass Yours,Josha from Europe "Three Country Zone" Germany France Switzerland,Lörrach Germany 🙋♂️🍀🍀🍀🇪🇺🇩🇪🇨🇭🇫🇷🇺🇸

What about the triple fugue from the development section of the first movement of Beethoven's 9th symphony? The double bass parts there are just as complex as the rest of the orchestra. Oh, and of course the double fugues from the finale. Magnificent.
Scott Dixon from the Cleveland Orchestra is actually working on publishing all of these accompaniments as a book. It should be available for sale by the International Society of Bassists Convention in June 2023.
Thank you for sharing 👍🏾 It's wonderful to see more people learning the bass and helping others do so.
My pleasure, Mr. Carter! Thank you so much for everything that you do for the bass world and beyond.
That low C at the end of #9 is a punch in the face, and I love it. Great analysis, world class playing. Thank you for what you do for the community.
Thanks for the kind words!

Nice bass!!! Nice playing!!! Did you arrange the piano part? Very useful!!! Thank you!
The piano part is by Cleveland Orchestra bassist Scott Dixon.

Hi Jason, how do I find the piano reduction to play along?
Hello! I ask you, could someone mention the name of the orchestral reduction book that the pianist is using? Thank you so much
It’s by Cleveland Orchestra bassist Scott Dixon. He’s planning on making it available soon!
Bravo! May I ask you to share also accompaniment piano part from this video? Thank you in advance!

Great video, but the TH-cam commercial interruptions make it almost unwatchable.
Mozart 35❤
Yes, the music is great, but where did you get that hat???
That’s from our Golden Gate Bass Camp here in San Francisco-fun design!
Can you post the whole thing without commentary/uninterrupted?
The original video is linked to at the top of the description.
