I have been thinking about building something like this. Using a electric valve and magnetic trigger to time the valve open /close cycle. I want to use steam from concentrated solar. And fire, for sunless days. I guess having multiple would be a good idea, to have a reliable energy source, I gave a 3-4 hp engine I plan to start with. And plenty of alternators. Great video...
With a 2 stroke engine you can make a sterling engine, the crank shaft air gets blown in to the head.

the primary piston is the rod. the engine piston works here as a second stage. thats why its works so well.

I just put a air hoes fitting in places of spark plug and it worked just fine did nothing other than took the spark plug out my way is very simple if it dont start turning pull the starter rope and off it will start runing really cool i though!!!!

The piston pushes the rod the rod opens the one way valve feeding it with the max amount of air to push back down the piston. So depends how wide or opened the valve opens determines how much air it brings in the chamber to push down a piston. More air more power more thrust acceleration.
You are correct . This was only proof of concept .
I didn't test the second part to your theory .
But I assume the opening stays the same but if you increase pressure then that would increase speed (unproven at this time )
Ian Mitchell this is amazing though. Opened up a new world for me. I messed around with vaporized gas. Now i think the only problem would be air tank and compressor and how to place it on re vehicle without it looking like your driving a tanker
vincent duenas there are other videos out there proving you don't even need a pin to push the piston .
In one case it is as simple as a flexible tube .
If you keep the speed down then the tank doesent need to be so big only the compressor has to produce a great cfm to keep up.
Ian Mitchell so the motor has to be connected to the main motor by a pulley that way they run the same rpm creating the same cfm in and out. The pin though is a great idea making the piston push on it when it reaches its closed position to open the valve giving it whatever cfm you dial your setting too.basicall just as a regular air fuel mixture. But I haven't messed with it yet to say otherwise but In my head it makes perfect sense.

I will try to make this on 25cc weedeater engine I cleaned it and I bought 3/4inch check valve.
I will use 3 -10 bar pressure and I dont know how big metal stick that opens valve must be in diametar? how much space I need between pipe and steal rod for steam?
I will ad oiler bcs I need to run this at least 1h , I will power car altenator with it
ELECTRONICS did you try this?.
The rod diameter depends on opening and smooth motion without slop.
The length should be just enough it open the valve to let air or steam into chamber the pressure will do the rest.
I think it will be great if you tried the other idea and compared between both of them to find out which one is more efficient.

What about cam shift did you change it?
It's a 2 stroke engine. There is NO cam shaft.
Since it’s a 2 stroke motor and gas-oil mixture is main lubricant, does it seize up after a while?
U can add a oil supply
What is stopping you from doing this with a 4 cycle engine with an alumum plate and welding the valves shut.. drill holes in the cylinder near the bottom of the stroke now you can lubricate it.. I would like to run it on 600 degree hot air heated by solar heat.. from compressed air form wind mills stored under ground.. the windmill air could heat hot water or radiant floor heating
For a 4 cycle i seen them make two more cams do one valve opens on each storke and it works good
Doesn't the rod eventually punch a hole in the piston head?
of course it would , but its just a demo to show you don't need gas .
there are other ways to do this that ultimately wouldn't be so destructive.
proving you can if you are ingenious enough run any engine without the conventional gas and carb etc.

I'm wondering why We, are confined to have to have the spark
plug hole on the top. If the motor was mounted upside down, OR at least
more than 90 degrees down,.... the Piston
would only come in contact with the plunger on the stroke near the plug !!!
Rather than bouncing it around all the time !!!
With some kind of housing around the exhaust ports, would the exhaust and oil mixture be funneled back into the crank area.??? This enclosed [ but vented ]
exhaust area would keep a certain mixture of steam and oil sludge mixing around the cylinder area.
Perfect NO, but, a lot more lubricant than just blowing pure steam ALL
around the cylinder wall and connecting rod bearings.
What the heck,....just give the crank area a shot of JB 80 after using it,...
for temporary storage till next use !!!!
