The view from Blackpool on election day: 'Fed up of politics'

- Ahead of the byelection in Blackpool South, the Guardian takes the temperature in the once prosperous northern coastal town, with many voters expressing complete apathy and disdain for the state of politics.
The area is going to the polls because former Tory MP Scott Benton resigned after being found guilty of breaching standards rules in a lobbying scandal. Labour is hopeful of taking back the seat, which Benton won with a majority of 3,690 in 2019.

What a depressing video. I don't see much optimism on the horizon, just people desperate for things to get better. 😢
I emigrated from the UK 52 years ago and when I see recent footage , all that I see is DECAY.
Where's all the money the council has from the gambling industry???
Back in the '70s, my wife used to pull pints in the Boars Head!
0:35 😂
Thank you to the people of Blackpool 👍🏻
"They don't often tell you that it has a big heart." Love Blackpool as a place. Hope that whoever gets the victory also has a big heart. Great little film. Well done to all involved.
I though Hinge & Bracket were dead, but here they are
Thank Brexit liars.
Nothing to do with it
You lot blame Brexit for everything lol and most of the time it has nothing to do with the situation.
i live in poulton, in the greater blackpool zone the modern name for it, and i have worked aroudn blackpool all my life and i have watched it decline, i have watched how in the ninties the councillers where openly coorrupt and into selling frugs, b they kept the drug gangs out, now most ofthose are long dead now, and its gone down and down and down
Thanks, Blackpool Council, for increasing Respite care charges for Blackpool carers to £49.12 per night.
dont forget they have to be able to afford to live, so thsoe carers if they dont earn enough to survive, then they will leave care and you will get NO carers, also remember craers recently lost their court battle to get paid for working sleeping nightrs, so they only get 20 pounds when in realistcaly you dont sleep, you are up mos the night working
ITE BLACK PEWL!
Looks run down
if you go five minutes out of town to lytham or poulton or wrea green its all suiper super rich, all the business owners for blackpool live in greater blackpool area. blackpool town itself is run down, but they only shwo the run down part of the fylde coast
What a dump
It's highly selective footage. There's plenty of new, quality development going on elsewhere in the constituency, replacing some of the dereliction.
you've got the tories to thank for that.
@@clairewilliams8225 Labour council in place still, and a Labour MP for 20-odd years before Scott Benton came on the scene 4.5 years ago. Things are on the up here, despite reports of the town's demise - and Mr Benton must take much of the credit for that.
Well thank successive Tory and Labour Governments and councils for that.
People who don't vote or just moan are absolutely useless! People fought and died for their rights and they can't be bothered. The guy on sure start knows his stuff ✌️
love the LGBTQIA+ representation in this video! :D
Labour candidate Chris Webb's claim there that he's "seems to be" the only candidate talking to people on the doorstep is simply not true - and he knows it. There's plenty of footage showing Mark Butcher of Reform for example doing just that. Embarrassing.
Anybody who wears a Reform badge is am embarrassment.
@@mildlydispleased3221 Webb's lie doesn't trouble you ...? Interesting.
Reform UK the way to go
😂😂😂😂😂😂
As If!
They had a smaller share of the vote in Blackpool than last time. .
No
@@zivkovicable Smaller share but actually more votes.... They were the only party to increase their numbers. Meanwhile Labour vote down 14% compared with 2019.
