Gotta at least admire the brass of those goblins in Gratis - picking a fist fight with God when you're low on the totem pole of random monsters is pretty gutsy.
Uhh, Quintet needed to develop WAY more games on the SNES. This is EASILY one of the most graphically intense and just, downright, utterly beautiful games created in the 16-bit console era. GOOD GRIEF! I remember how SNK used to taunt Nintendo and Sega with the NEO GEO, referring to the superior graphic capabilities of their console - well no offense to fans of it - but this game completely slays a comparable NEO GEO game like Magician Lord, graphically. I used to watch my friend play this game back when it was new and I was always impressed at how Quintet, utilizing the SNES' hardware, made a game that looked like it was developed by Capcom on their CPS-1 arcade board. Our hero is such a wonderfully detailed and animated sprite. Great longplay Parazzing, thanks for sharing.
+Seyron Abbott LOL fuck off, Magician Lord pisses all over this game's graphics, apart from the huge sprites this game doesn't even look that fuckin good compared to most actual good SNES games. Even if you were right, your comparing a game's graphics favourably to an arcade game released 3 years before is as unfair as Actraiser 2 itself.
Zenks ren damn dude calm down. No need to tell the guy to F off. Besides for all the good SNK,s console was nobody care enough to support it anyway. That console,s asking price was outrageous and the games where a C note a pop. Advertisement was next to nothing, and nobody cared to translate the games. The console went nowhere here. So its nothin to get all bent about.
I wouldn’t go as far as to say graphically this is comparable to Magician Lord. There are simply many effects NeoGeo can do that SNES simply cannot. Just facts. Still i understand where you are coming from. I do feel the concept art in AR2 is way better than ML,s. Period. The music is even more captivating. The Devs did their best with that they had. I do feel this game is better than ML as well.
you know what i love about the final battle. there's no HUD its just you and him. Very atmospheric. because you dont which hit will be your last or his.
Today I fully understand why 10 year old me played this game shitting my pants in every single stage. This masterpiece is so intense and yet challenging that you better respect the power of gods.
And referring to Super Star Wars games, I didn't mean to say those had the most fluid controls around but they were far more flexible in what your character could do, and both those games and this one are expansive, sprawling platformers with occasionally tricky learning curves. Perhaps Super Metroid-style controls/physics would've been even better here.
Always loved this kind of games. Actraiser reminds me a lot of Demon's Crest, one of my all time favorites from the SNES era, only Actraiser is much more unforgiving.
An updated version of Actraiser with 2D sidescrolling, upgradeable weapons and the town-building sim would be pretty awesome. They could sell it through the PSN and make a killing.
the only thing i mean ONLY is the lack of sim stages but this is one sourly overlooked game.. it might be one of the best 2d side scrollers ive played on its own despite how very different its also complex. entertaining and worth a reappraisal as a standalone 2d platformer with incredible depth.
In deed, it was a masterpiece of pixelart and glorious themes, that's what i love of the old consoles, they had real ART and not just boring simulators or war-shooters
for me this game is superb in every aspect. people talking down the music. for me its great. people calling the commands too dificult. its not, they just got alot from the litle resources. if u dig the game every strike gets pretty intuitive. I was never the guy that would finish games like this but I finished this one.
Yeah, I think of Hard mode, this is on par with Super Ghouls and Ghosts. I'm currently working my way through actraiser 2 on Normal. Great experience so far!
What I missed about part.2 is probably the reason why I didn't play it you actually are a god in part.1 and you build towns and help people and it gives you power ups, here it's strait up action where you save people, to me yes both are good games but you get attached to the first one because the people there are begging for help and the selfless angel/master or god helps those people in their daily needs, both part.1 and 2 endings are kinda sad in way.
I think you never played this game. This game has wonderful graphics and music but the gameplay is pure crap, it is frustrating and the controls are awful.
Man when I rented this game as a kid the graphics and sound blew my mind. Great game, one of the few "hard" games that is not a sports game that I actually beat.
This game's environment, art and graphics are excellent. The only problem is the difference in how it plays versus how it looks and sounds. I think the speed and control both seem way stiff and slower than they could be relative to the pace of the games' ambitious plot. The prison level reminds me of the Super Star Wars games and this would've greatly benefited from the control of those games. Still a great game overall, just lots of untapped potential.
I hate it that they made this game so hard and also miss the re-Creation elements of the original, but I love the artwork of this game. I also kinda like it that the angel is defeating various sins.
i bought this game as soon as i heard it was coming out. i was highly saddened to learn that there wasn't any building of cities in it and that it was all fighting. wish they would have developed something close to the original and not just focus on fighting. sad way to go out on this fantastic game.
They completely removed the city building aspect from the game. That's the entire reason we played Act Raiser! I was gonna download it for my SNES emulator, but after seeing this I think I'll pass. Glad I checked here first. Great playthrough though thanks.
This game didn't need the SIM aspect to be fun, the challenge alone kept you coming back, you wanted to get through the game to hear the epic music, and to fight the evils Tanzra brought about.
There was a bug I used to do when trying to pull secret codes, the angel dies in the intro. Meaning it is a script with the game loaded with it, no a recorded gameplay for the intro or animated.
This game was good but not great, because of the horrible slow downs and no city building. It needed the city building and a super fx chip to speed it up.
too true, the first had a lot that was awesome about it, but the second tightened up the action in EXCHANGE for the rest of it, which was a horrible mistake. If only they had a third one that COMBINED the aspects, then that would be sweet
I appreciate this but prefer part one - I never did get this game or see it so that is why I watched. I thought I would like more fighting rounds but apparently the mix with the angel and city growing made the game a whole. Also I finally tried a rom of it but the flying mechanic was funky - not sure if I just needed to get used to it or what but it made it hard to play for me. Thanks and best wishes all :)
Basically Enix America asked Quintet to do a sequel to appease the american market. Thus it was an action only game starring a muscular angel/master. It was also made more challenging for the same reason.
Dosunceste So basically Enix America was another publisher that didn't have a clue about the American market back then. They even used to believe that anime styled games wouldn't sell, the idiots.
Just think for a second, in 1990 Who buy the games? The parents, not the kids. What kind of parent would ever think their child would love to play a game with a pink haired guy on the box for Christmas? So just remember that we didnt have much preview at the time, the picture on the box use to be the only elements we could rely on. My father brought us Primal Rage once for Christmas and we never stopped playing it.
I just beat this game on Normal with savestates. Was still borderline impossible, I feel like I went through purgatory and came back from the dead. Excellent game but no wonder so many people hate it, it's way too difficult.
Yep. I remember playing this game back in the day, now I wasn't the best SNES gamer but I wasn't average or new to gaming either. But I got so quickly killed in this game that eventually I did not find it fun any more to even give it a try.
atheist theological questioning aside its a good game. on that note if god is all powerful can he create a rock so big he cannot lift it? either way he has to fail once.
You are either God or Metatron showcased in a bad ass Angel like form. Who sadly gets his ass handed to him, by every tiny pipsqueak that crosses his path, in the game world. Its fine to make a hard game. But the setting should also be fitting to a certain degree. Even if you consider God or A God not as an Omnipotent being. The Angel figurine in this game, is like glass, it dies or breaks way to easily. If you like ActRaiser 2, check out Volgarr the Viking.
+Halsaufschneider Keep in mind demons are what you are fighting. Even in settings like D&D demons are VERY powerful and it takes a party of 5 level 14 or higher (which means they are easily the best at what they do since most NPC's cap out at around 9) to defeat ONE slightly powerful demon. It's entirely possible that the form you inhabit (since a light ray or beam or shot goes into the statue) is weaker than your own, which for some reason you cannot use. Even in the bible demons are known to be the bane of angels and any god. They always are in every religious story. So it makes sense that even the smallest can be a threat if ignored too long.
Well it's awesome. Truly if they Had a sequel 3 it would have tremendous speed part 2 is cool although. Its a colossal. Pain in the ass but it still has its Holy Moments
Quintet released a spiritual sequel to ActRaiser on Saturn called Solo Crisis (in fact it began development as a remake of the first game). This time the action part was ditched in favor of the strategy section.
@CloudStrifeZX To be fair, the first one had a lot going for it, yeah its simple, but sometimes that is a good thing. I like this one as well but I think I liked the first one more and there was a bit more variety. Either way, its sad to know the guys behind this one, and the first, as well as some other note worthy games no long exist, truly a great loss if you ask me.
dont know why people say this one sucks and the first is better, i hated the sim part of the first just a time sink no way to even lose. actraiser 2 is my fav all action no BS sim.
The person who's playing respects the audience who wants to read the texts, listen to the music, appreciate the environments and watch the intro and cutscenes to the end. SUBSCRIBED!
Actually, that's usually what a "longplay" is. This is an awesome channel to find them on, though.
Gotta at least admire the brass of those goblins in Gratis - picking a fist fight with God when you're low on the totem pole of random monsters is pretty gutsy.
Actraiser 2 was alright, but I kinda missed building up towns.
Yeah. I really couldn't get into thus game without that part.
That’s what made it stand out from just another platformer/dungeon crawler... such a shame

Ok, but uhh… doesn’t really have anything else other than graphics, the controls and hitboxes of some of the enemies are really stupid
I really like what they did with the statue during the end credits. Very symbolic and adds closure :3
you know what i love about the final battle. there's no HUD its just you and him. Very atmospheric. because you dont which hit will be your last or his.
This game is very tough even for skilled players ;) !
The Master for Super Smash Bros!
I wish "retro" indie games would have the insane production value that this has.
Today I fully understand why 10 year old me played this game shitting my pants in every single stage. This masterpiece is so intense and yet challenging that you better respect the power of gods.
Actraiser 1 > Actraiser 2. Building the towns were fun.
And referring to Super Star Wars games, I didn't mean to say those had the most fluid controls around but they were far more flexible in what your character could do, and both those games and this one are expansive, sprawling platformers with occasionally tricky learning curves. Always loved this kind of games. Actraiser reminds me a lot of Demon's Crest, one of my all time favorites from the SNES era, only Actraiser is much more unforgiving.
I'd love to see a remake of this game, or at least to continue the series, They were epic!
this game... the bane of my existence from the ages 5-7
So many hate on the dropped townbuilding, but I think this game should be appreciated for what it is, a gorgeous platformer.
With a superb soundtrack to go along with it.
This game looks... AWESOME!!!
I've always loved the enemy designs in this game. So unique and unsettling. Great game and superb music.
An updated version of Actraiser with 2D sidescrolling, upgradeable weapons and the town-building sim would be pretty awesome. They could sell it through the PSN and make a killing.
ha, funny enough you got your wish. The remake isn't perfect but it is ok still.
I just finished watching this. Loved every moment of it.
It had badass music as well.
I really wish they would bring this series back.
The amount of control of the flying mechanic, its a dispplay of hundreds or even thousands of hours perfecting the craft.
pushed the snes graphics at the limits
The flying mechanics in this game seem really cool.
the only thing i mean ONLY is the lack of sim stages but this is one sourly overlooked game.. it might be one of the best 2d side scrollers ive played on its own despite how very different its also complex. entertaining and worth a reappraisal as a standalone 2d platformer with incredible depth.

for me Ghouls 'n Ghosts is much harder
Yeah, I think of Hard mode, this is on par with Super Ghouls and Ghosts. I'm currently working my way through actraiser 2 on Normal. Great experience so far!
They just completely scrapped the town building aspect? That's a massive letdown.
yeah, i played the first actraiser just because i could build towns, but now.... :C
Yeah it was a massive letdown.
The music in this game was amazing!
I suck at this game, but it's still one of the favourites of my collection
Man, you're invincible!!!
my god i didnt remember this games music was so great
The look and feel of this game, even the music reminds me so much if Super Castlevania 4.
honestly its better than that.
Not a bad bit of Actraisin'!
That jump at 11:35 is god damned near impossible.
this game is really wonderful, the creator of this game have a crazy idea i want to see it in the new generation
I think you never played this game. This game has wonderful graphics and music but the gameplay is pure crap, it is frustrating and the controls are awful.
+Robert S yes i played end finished it, i talk about the scenario and the characters, this gane is really top
Man when I rented this game as a kid the graphics and sound blew my mind. Great game, one of the few "hard" games that is not a sports game that I actually beat.
This game is still amazing today , but the only thing what sucks that the character was very slow , he should be faster
You know what we need? A new ActRaiser game. But one with the Simulation sections as well as the action sections.
This game's environment, art and graphics are excellent. The only problem is the difference in how it plays versus how it looks and sounds. I think the speed and control both seem way stiff and slower than they could be relative to the pace of the games' ambitious plot. The Dark Souls of the Super Nintendo
Much harder than Dark Souls.
I swear I saw the Altheria boss in a nightmare I had long ago...
one of the most understimated game.
I wish they would have added the village building like the first one
After watching the first level being beaten, with full HP, I knew this guy is the real deal ._.
why this series dont continue coming i think mixing action with city management is just awesome
I'd like to see Actraiser remade.
Master..you've done it! me: oh just shut up and tell me where else to go
I really wish they had kept the city building part from the first act raiser.
This is still a great game. The only thing missing from this one is the RPG elements of the first game. However, the action scenes are awesome!!.
Meu jogo preferido no Snes, e um dos mais difíceis também
I remember this game being ridiculously hard..
too true, the first had a lot that was awesome about it, but the second tightened up the action in EXCHANGE for the rest of it, which was a horrible mistake. If only they had a third one that COMBINED the aspects, then that would be sweet
Very good childhood memories
Excellent! You are a beast at this game.
The demon's in this game always reminded me of the apostles forms from Berserk. :D
this game was mad hard
Actraiser 2 remake Diligence switch coming this year
Awesome
How come they didn't continue this game. I loved playing this game!
Definitely more action oriented than the original.
1:18:41 - did this scene inspire for: goblin lord (at young age) killed the barbarian?
"Please dont forget these last words."
THIS LOOKS AMAZING!
***** oh why? what makes it bad?
andoc Thanks for the info.
Never could get this to work, game always froxe when i tried to fight monsters.
Music excellent as ever.
A rather clumsy fellow missed the like button.
ENIX always put good music in there games.
So they decided to make a sequel to an innovative game and then just dropped the innovation.

@techbonus
Well, Enix did made some graphical awesomeness... I think Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma look beautiful, not to mention EVO also.
not gonna i am mad AF that i am just finding out there was a equal to ActRaiser , i loved the first one
You're just bad at it. I beat it when I was 6 or so
@oriostoteles i also don't recall that " ubisoft present from all the times i played this game on snes and emulator
My favorite stage was Stormbrook and I can squash the boss in like 8 seconds (I think was my best time) and no damage
Stormrook is easily the best designed stage. Has the perfect balance between length, challenge, graphics, and it has a sub-boss.
wait wait wait wait! tell me something please, this is not like the first one, i mean when you protect the village and all, and build stuff and that?
Angels are supposed to be immortal I thought. So why would they be killed like that?
atheist theological questioning aside its a good game. on that note if god is all powerful can he create a rock so big he cannot lift it? either way he has to fail once.
That's what I always thought, personally.
me too man! why did they do that?????????
Why would you eliminate the whole "create your city" thing?????
Hard game
It's like Dark Souls for the 16-bit era....
Except this game makes Dark Souls difficulty look like a picnic in the park.
This is ten times harder than Dark Souls
@ShinOnigashima Those are maybe the vest games enix ever did
fuck this guy takes forever on the bosses....
why not Special strike the sub-bosses? tht first stage sub-bos asks for the flying cut down special strike
Is it ubisoft eterntaiment?

Does this game have difficulty settings? I recall the enemies taking more hits to fell. Perhaps I should give it another run.

Is there one clip you uploaded before TH-cam lifted the time limit where you didn't get asked "how do you upload something longer than 10 minutes"?
dont know why people say this one sucks and the first is better, i hated the sim part of the first just a time sink no way to even lose.
actraiser 2 is my fav all action no BS sim.
Question: What type of account do you have? I know that for your videos to be this long, you have to have a certain account.
