- (UK trip, episode 5 of 6) Just in case you can't get enough of Bernie, here is another episode full of laughter and banter while Tom and Bernie put their heads together to get "Mabel" the Morris Minor running once again. Mabel has been parked, dusty and alone for over 20 years in a small garage in the outskirts of London. After a good wash, a new battery, and a bit of wrenching, can Tom and Bernie bring her back to life?

The holes were to accommodate the exhaust pipes from the flat four engine that was never used.

My heart jumped with joy when it kicked over. I love old British cars like the Morry because they remind me of my childhood. If I ever find one I would not restore it, just get it going and safe because they are only original once.

No way, I wasn't impressed at all by him. They spend many hours just to get it started, even thou we all know that this car should be taken into restoration garage and put it apart. Putting fresh oil into 20 year old oils, that propably are turned into custard by this time, is the biggest mistake you can do. Just a complete mess this event.

As soon as I saw that it said Lucas on the coil, I suspected I knew why it didn't have any spark. I learned this from owning several British bikes.

First thing to do is fit new points, dizzy cap, plug leads and plugs. The Lucas fuel pump will be seized and needs replacing. The fuel will be like varnish after 20 years.. It will have a very low ratio diff and the brakes are a death trap. All the shocks will have stopped working long ago

From Michigan, and I concur. Hell we probably have the most barn finds in actual barns here. Plus with all the corn there’s bound to be plenty of of farms with cars on them.
I'm in Long Beach California, and classics are hard to get for a decent price. Many of us California guys have to go out of state to buy a classic

Most coils that get replaced were perfectly fine!
A quick trip to Euro Parts for a fuel pump and some hoses and they'd be off and running.
That battery is "straight out of Crompton".

Fun episode. Many of our Morris Minor Club members have been through the exact same process when they find cars that have been abandoned for years and "drag them home" on a trailer.
That's a first washing a Car with a packet of Wet wipes, brilliant.
Bernie looks at his wife and Tom and says 'I will restore this whole car with various sized sockets and my handy adjustable' 😂

Somehow getting an old car to start was so much fun when I didn't know what I was doing. Now they all start on the first try and it just seems so predictable...

It sounds about as smooth as a concrete mixer.
I will say there is no more elation that getting that old car or any motorized vehicle started after decades of being parked. I remember my dad’s old dune buggy and mini bike were sitting in my grandparents garage and I tinkered with them for hours at like 10-11 years old, and I got them both started not knowing what the hell I was doing but it was like winning the lottery

Murphey's Oil soap, soft bristle brush and plenty of running water will transform the convertible top. nicely. A nice, gentle clean.

Check out an old British TV show called, "Lovejoy". A Morris Minor ragtop is his daily driver in season 2. Cheerio, blokes!
There's something so english about that shot where a plastic carrier bag was blowing past a morris minor that wont start...

Did have nice paint until they ruined it by rubbing with those wipes.
cause the filler hole is at a weird angle so funnels tend to fall out and not work well, I know cause I own one
Jack Cowsill. A funnel works just fine. One guy holds the funnel one guy poor’s the fuel. It’s not rocket science.
I guess it is for these guys.
