It would have been nice if it had shown what type of crane was being used. I was overhead crane operator for a bunch of years. (sitting up in the crane cage, about 50 feet above the floor). I could drag my little hook and pick up a set of cables attaches to a ring that was propped up on the edge of a 2" thick piece of steel. If you could do that in a certain length of time, you were considered a GOOD CRANE-MAN. When the guys, in the back-shop weren't busy, I'd practice. They'd set it up and I would Line up and drag my hook down the side of the steel and the concrete floor and ease the nose of that hook into the opening of the ring or tear-drop, and pick it up before it could turn away. The guys would time me doing it. It not only says something about your ability, but it hones your skill, too ! It's like a competition amongst the crane-men. I was NOT the best. There was an old man that was twice as fast as me and he could back-roll the hook into it. Beat anything I had seen yet. I never could do it. He could do it BOTH ways ! There's ya something to test your patience and skill on. Moving a load thru a maze is nothing compared to picking up your own 1" diameter ring with a 10 ton little hook. (outside curve of the hook was about 5 inches). Hook was attached so it would ball-bearing swivel, in a block with two, ½" cables running thru the pulleys.
