Best always to get payment up front, or payment for every section of work completed. The goods still remain in the possession of this man, and not the person living in the house, which an awful lot of people are ignorant of. Until monies are exchanged the goods remain with the owner. After a long career in debt recovery I can honestly say that for many money claims the County Court is a waste of money and time. The old saying you can't get blood out of a stone is true. Tradesmen, take a deposit or better still payment in full for short jobs or staged payments for longer ones. If you have a good reputation, good references and fair pricing you will not lose business from decent customers.
