  • The first ever Winter Steam Gala on the Severn Valley Railway, held over the weekend of 6th and 7th January 2024, saw the return to steam of LMS Stanier Mogul 2968 after major overhaul, and GWR Manor 7812 'Erlestoke Manor' returning to the SVR after spending much of 2023 on loan to the West Somerset Railway at Minehead.
Also in action were LMS designed Ivatt 4MT 'Flying Pig' mogul 43106 and SR West Country pacific 34027 (21C127) 'Taw Valley', both due for withdrawal from traffic following the gala, plus GWR Pannier Tank 7714, and BR Standard 4MT 75069, the latter rostered in place of the visiting USATC S160 2-8-0 2253 'Omaha', which was due to make its final appearance on loan to the SVR, but failed prior to the gala.
In addition to the steam action filmed at Hampton Loade, Country Park Halt, Highley, Arley, and Hay Bridge, Eardington, I also took a look at the flooded River Severn near the various locations.
Filmed on Saturday 6th January 2024.

Great video, that's me filming in front of you on the balcony of the Engine House at 15:09!

Many thanks. Thought that the Engine House balcony would be a good place to get a shot of the trains with the river in the background. Had wanted to get a shot with the river in the foreground and the train behind, but wasn't easy to find a suitable location as all of the riverside footpaths were flooded!

@@davidcattell7311 Yes we had the same problem! I usually head south from Hampton Loade station along the footpath, got nearly all the way through the low bit on the Sunday but then had to turn back as it was flooded!
