    Hi Brian, I purchased one of these - it replaced an old CS2 which required a noise gate, or the silver archer it fed into sounded like a toaster with an attitude.
    I’ve been buying pedals since the 70’s - you know how that is. I really love this pedal. I do run a noise gate before one Strymon because it is so sensitive.
    Running the mini into the archer then and eq and the usual FX straight into a two Marshall 100 watt stacks running in stereo. I’m in my 60’s so I’ve had those forever and they now ‘hate the fact that they are being played quietly’ ;) ... usually. Love your channel. I told my wife “there are only 8 or 9 pedals on my board”... her response was... “what about all the others you have in cabinets?”... my response - “those don’t count, they’re not on the board” :))

    Hey Brian, thanks for doing these videos! I would love to see a video that demos some of your pedals in a "boosting into high gain" setting. Particularly, I would love to see the Tumnus used in this nontraditional application, or also the Catapulp!

    Thanks for this, great tip! One simple thing that anyone can do to be a little safer... when you order that can of deoxit from your favourite online source, order a pair of safety glasses and a box of nitrile gloves (commonly blue) and maybe even a dust mask if you are feeling crazy.
    An electronics tech buddy of mine said another way to do this (maybe if deoxit doesn't do the job) is to take the pot out of the chassis, take the cover off the back of the pot, and use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts of the disc that spins when you turn the pot, being careful not to damage the spring contact that makes contact with the disc.

    Brian, I was surprised, sounds really good. I listened to Andy @ PGS and Brett down under. They got some great sound out of it too. The sound quality is excellent. In some ways, better than big pedal, I was thinking that it would be cheaper, but you guys put it together by hand. That must take some patience. Much better than other mini compressors. I think they will sell great.Jim

    Sounds good in this clip, I have a few small questions thinking of replacing my EMMA Comp with this. How does the voltage affect the compressor (I see most of your pedals now accept 9v to 18v). Does the tone switch work in a similar way (or at least produce the effect) as something like the Janglebox (which I believe changes a cap in the compression circuit allowing more highs through). I generally want a compressor for that compressed jangly sound with both a 12string and a 6string.

    well a perfect test is when you balance the bypass volume with the pedal engage , then we can really listen to the effect itself, when it has around 5-6 db louder signal, isnt a fair review or demo, anyways i like your channel a lot and for that thumbs up

    Great sounding pedal! It really transforms your Tele from the usual (but much loved!) twanky sound to a solid well-rounded tone, but fortunately in a transparent and pleasing manner. 1:50 "Pickin and Chicken"? You mean "Chicken Pickin'"? The former sounds like a new fast food joint. :) Any chance you could make another short video with a Les Paul or something else with some humbucker pups on it?

    New to this pedal. Using with Voodoo Pedal Power Mondo. 9v, center pin negative. Do I use 100mA or 250mA? EDIT: Wampler very fast support response: It draws 140mA, so use your 250mA slot.

    Hey Wamper folks: I've had a full size Ego for a few years now and it is literally never off...a friend of mine had one and as soon as I heard his I went out and bought one that same week and it makes my acoustic sound unbelievable (works great on electric, too!). Anyway just a quick question about the switches: for the tone switch, is on and off like going from zero to full on the original Ego, or is it somewhere in between? Same question for attack...is it like going right from all the way off to all the way on, on the original Ego, or are they closer together, so to speak? Thanks!

    • @mwicks1968
      @mwicks1968 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wampler Pedals Yeah, but "Slow" on the Mini pedal, is what o'clock on the "Attack" knob on the big pedal, for example?
      Same for "Fast", and Tone "on"/"off"?
      Do you get my point?

    • @wampler_pedals
      @wampler_pedals  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mike Wicks ahh gotcha. Fast would be about 9:00 on the attack knob and slow would be around 3:30 or so. Tone is all the way up and all the way down.

  • @jasong546
    @jasong546 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Old video I know but; I don’t hear an increase in noise but is there one there that is bothersome? I ask because I have been reading user reviews and many models have complaints about a huge amount of hiss. Is the mini ego as quiet as the video suggests? I am not to knowledgeable about compression, and I noticed in this video it eliminated the rattling of the strings. I love that! I see I would like to get this but was curious about the noise I have read about.

    • @wampler_pedals
      @wampler_pedals  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There isn't a "noise" problem, it's more of a "user error" instance. A compressor will take whatever sound is there and either increase the volume (adding gain) or compress transients that are too loud. So, if there is any noise whatsoever in the signal chain any compressor/limiter will amplify it, and every guitar rig will have some amount of noise, especially if you're using single coils.

    • @jasong546
      @jasong546 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wampler Pedals yes, I see. I was referring to the Kelley compressor plus, and bunch of guys calling it terribly noisy, one said it was unusable! But I don’t hear it in the demos, and I don’t hear it in yours. I just ordered your mini from a retailer that starts with a z 30 minutes ago I look forward to it arriving! Thank you.

    So, would a more "extreme" compression setting use a faster or slower attack? I was always under the impression that a fast attack (knob turned counterclockwise on the full-sized Ego Compressor) would be the more extreme setting, but now Brian says he likes a slower attack setting to hide sloppy playing. Confused again.

    • @mollers92
      @mollers92 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Slower attack wouldn't bring mistakes up to volume quite so aggressively haha

    • @starluxstudio619
      @starluxstudio619 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Extreme compression would be fast attack, very long release and a super high ratio with low threshold. I wouldn't say the ego is capable of extreme compression. The slow attack tends to sound better on my ears as well. You get the natural volume of the attack, with the smoothness of compression immediately after. Extreme compression isn't going to sound very good in most situations. It's super noisy and lacks volume.
