I was hatched in 1961 so I grew up watching these older sci-fi movies. I have only seen this twice in all the years, but the old black and white really brings out the atmosphere of a great horror flick. At times I prefer the black and white over the colorized version.

I love the way they used to put all the credits before the movie. It gave you an anticipation that you don't feel now. Especially if it was stars that you knew and wanted to know who they were in the movie. Especially on the big screen it was just such an exciting time to watch
I liked the double-feature movies (with The Three Stooges, thrown in between the two) Was it 'double feature', where you went to see it, back in the day? (I think it was the kind of flick that they showed at drive-in theaters, too!)
Star Wars was the first movie to break the tradition of putting credits before the film and putting them at the end instead. The studios fought it, but it gave a dramatic intro to the film and became the new way to present movies.

Thanks for the movie! I didn't know it existed! It clearly reflects the unrest of the scientific intelligentsia of that period, both in the USA and in the USSR.

I would rate this movie along with Star Trek IV and The Day The Earth Stood Still as being the most positive-minded when it comes to the portrayal of extraterrestrials and the message being presented by them to the people of Earth. It definitely shows that fear is the default state of Man's way of looking at matters be it toward extraterrestrials or himself and his fellow creatures, and that a new way of thinking is required in order to live life as he is meant to do so, that is to say, a decent, more enlightened and beneficent way to live with his fellow creatures here on Earth as well as those who live out in the vast depths of outer space. Only then can Man truly call himself a civilized and advanced being. And who is to say that extraterrestrials aren't among us right now making use of materials here on Earth to benefit both themselves, and trying to create a better existence for mankind as a whole!!!

I understand your humorous remark. But Einstein described the theory of photovoltaic cells in 1905 the same year he presented his theory of relativity. And when they awarded him the Nobel Prize in 1922 it was for his work on Photovoltaic theory. After initial versions were actually built, that produced electricity. So I guess Einstein was our real cosmic man.
The future of mankind looks very grim from this point on,luckily I had a taste of normality growing up in the 70s ,world got flushed down the toilet just after the millennium 😮
@@ianmangham4570 Agree! After 2000 they produced very few good movies! Watch Hollywood today...One movie produced , next day forgotten! I grew also up in the 70ties but todays world is not worth to live in anymore!
I sure like the cars...and pick-up trucks...from those years, they had a lot of style and personality. I especially like the Station Wagons. I am 71 and these 1950's sci-fi movies were part of my childhood. This is one of the better ones. It wasn't about battles in space and disruptor beams; which are fun to watch, but how we might and probably will react to facing an extraterrestrial being. Today, we have had Congress hold hearings with military 'whistleblowers' with inside information about the frequent UAP's. It sounds promising, but I think we are still a long way from 'officially' acknowledging extraterrestrial craft in our skies. And this is why these older sci-fi movies about the "what if and when" of E.T.'s are interesting to watch and ponder.

And what's with that sergeant's salute (in saluting the colonel, in that one scene)? >>> British salute >>> "marched" like a Brit, too Yes, I know this flick came out of (i.e., was distributed in) both the USA and England...
Very good, thanks for having this available. Like others I missed it when watching all those old sci-fi movies. People were a little casual about an anti-gravity sphere from space showing up, but it certainly was sensitive and very pro-science. Also, it was fun!

The golden age of Hollywood was from the 1910s through the 1950s. Another golden age could be at hand if the producers and directors would just make films as they were made then during that period of time. That would benefit everyone in the end!
This movie came out the year I was born and I didn't even know it existed, the funny thing about seeing this movie is it shows real truth because about 6 years ago I saw 3 glowing yellowish orbs fly low over my home each one came from a different direction and each one disappeared in the same spot in the sky, the sky was a clear beautiful blue day no clouds at all and it was about 2:30 pm. I still don't know what to think and I have an awful lot of unanswered questions.

I was thinking today, what would be really cool would be to have an episode from Star Trek, or the Orville, reference this movie, have the Cosmic Man return. Or have it sooner and the Cosmic Man returns to find Timmy and astronaut. There's a lot of old scifi shows that would lend to this "return theme".

I'd only heard about this movie long ago in a couple of old Famous Monsters Of Filmland magazines. Nothing memorable that would make me want to see the film. Thanks to the Internet and CCC, I try to get to the ones I've never seen. For me there was a surprise with this movie. The surprise for me was that this seemed to be a very competent film. The acting was sincere and believable, what few special effects and trickery was used here was also plausible or just the right amount of weird. The only thing really not quite up to snuff was the overall story. It was solid but not a lot of thrills or action. Just a competent movie and an enjoyable watch. Now for those you into such conspiracies, there are parts of this movie that some say are based on actual events.

I love these oldies movies, whether sci-fi or others, it’s really the outcome of story and consequences, and with the hope that humanity will do better in the future, plus the love shown that is there and many times lacking in today’s films. Fear is a catalyst and also makes people afraid of their own shadow. What is shown here is still the very same scenario we have today, especially with the Coronavirus pandemic situation, afraid to go anywhere for fear of catching it, etc. A virus is just that a virus, and goes where the wind blows it. My mother always taught me to wash my hands before touching my face or food. This is the best way to help diminish illness, including eating healthy. Because of experimentation of viruses and other infectious agents, we are ending up with viruses and bacteria becoming immune to vaccines and other drugs which helped prevent many people from getting sick. But now they seem to be developing into newer resistant strains/variants. Thus, the new Coronavirus pandemic shut down the whole world and it is still NOT in the full recovery phase as yet. Many businesses that once flourished have closed their doors and offices due to lack of workers and helpers they once had before, all because of FEAR, while others are barely surviving due to lack of funds and/or basic services or working conditions. Some have also lost many of the benefits for their employees, like healthcare insurance investments because of rising costs and rising unemployment rates, including most likely higher compensation costs for their employees. Another factor are the daycare shortages that once thrived as well and are also in a decline….REASON? Lack of funds and rising costs with facilities, and most importantly rising insurance costs, including also lack of qualified professionals, people who have been working with children are no longer available because of one reason or another, including FEAR of catching an illness or Fear of anything else. If Fear keeps us from helping each other when times are difficult, then humanity is truly lost and doomed to collapse, and fail at anything it wants to accomplish, because it has NOT learned from its failures and mistakes from the past. Love and support is what keeps the human spirit alive throughout life and family is the key to its survival. We are all in the family of humanity. Maybe it’s time for humanity to act humane towards itself and all life instead of all the bickering and chaos it has caused itself in the past. 😥👍❤️🙏🏼
Second time to watch this movie, it proves the point that I hold man fears what they don't understand and they will kill it to prove their point. Lets say this happens sometime in the future will mankind heave enough sense not to destroy what ever it is so they might understand who and what has come and to learn more about what is to come in the future. I'm glad Cosmic Man is dead. Or seems to be, kind of. Anyway he's buck naked wherever he is, cause he left all his clothes behind. Public nudity (however brief) is a misdemeanour in New Mexico. In contemplating the passage of time, it becomes evident that despite the vast expanse of 64 years since the creation of this film in 1959, our collective wisdom appears to have stagnated. Regrettably, we persist in our propensity to resort to destructive measures when faced with the enigmatic. It is disheartening to observe the continued proclivity of world militaries towards precipitate action, which, quite frankly, leaves one with a sense of profound disillusionment. It is my fervent hope that, as a species, we might one day evolve into more enlightened beings, capable of comprehending and coexisting harmoniously with the intricacies of the universe. Only through such intellectual and moral growth may we aspire to join a broader interstellar community, where our presence is regarded as an asset to the tapestry of universal society.

Turning sunlight into electricity? What a concept. Impossible.

I grew also up in the 70ties but todays world is not worth to live in anymore!
thanks for posting like getting a "new" "old" movie
Disclosure 2.0, Love this Film, i think that must be an obligatory Film to watch to understand so many Things
Thanks
I love, love, love old movies!!!!!
And this is why these older sci-fi movies about the "what if and when" of E.T.'s
are interesting to watch and ponder.
Surprised by just how good this movie is. Did anyone notice the bridge sound track from Star Trek Tos, in the professors lab? How can this be?
Maybe Gene Roddenberry stole the sound from this movie this movie was made before Star Trek.
They all use stock sound libraries
We gave up big beautiful station wagons for humongous dangerous Stupid Ugly Vehicles(suv)!

???
@@kdvinson5638I used to have a 1956 Chevy 4 door station wagon. Best damn vehicle I ever owned, and I've owned many. Gas guzzler? Possibly, but it was a blast to drive.
Congratulations for managing to live so long in a Fascist State.
For those of you who enjoy reading the "chapter markers" in this fine classic presentation...

Because if you take the mom and the moppet out of the movie, you really don't have a story, do you?
without blue book and similar things...
Strano. Io sapevo dell'uovo cosmico e non dell'uomo cosmico...
The "moppet"? Are you talking about the crippled boy?
Anyway, don't you just love those ancient cars from the 1950s? ( with their ridiculous suspensions bouncing all around, like a pogo stick).
I had a 1960 Plymouth convertible, back in the day-- a full-size behemoth: with no rack-and-pinion steering! How did we ever manage to stay on the road?!
I see the MCMLVIII (1958) copyright, at the beginning of the film: sixty-five years ago, already!
(I was a little older than that buck-tooth kid.)
Talk about sappy sound tracks!
(But, we liked that kind of background music, in those days.)
And what's with that sergeant's salute (in saluting the colonel, in that one scene)?
>>> British salute
>>> "marched" like a Brit, too
Yes, I know this flick came out of (i.e., was distributed in) both the USA and England...

Enjoyed this ! Thank you .
Great . Thanks Cult Cinema
@benancegeorge5480 Thanks for being here!! 😉
Very good, thanks for having this available. Like others I missed it when watching all those old sci-fi movies. People were a little casual about an anti-gravity sphere from space showing up, but it certainly was sensitive and very pro-science. Also, it was fun!
Subtitle Persian films classic very good ❤❤❤❤❤thanks ❤❤❤
@Farhad.A.M Thank you so much for your comment letting us know that the Persian subtitles are really really good. Hope you can enjoy many more of our films here in CCC. Cheers!
A very absorbing and imaginative film!
Some old SF movies are best forever forgotten. _This is not one of those._
I like how the colourist decided to give our scientist hero a purple station wagon. Although sometimes it flickered into the blue range.
Those colors were from the flexible solar panels formed into the fenders, hood and top of that solar-electric powered car
The golden age of Hollywood was from the 1910s through the 1950s. Another golden age could be at hand if the producers and directors would just make films as they were made then during that period of time. That would benefit everyone in the end!
Wow they made such cool cars back then.
1:02:54 I seriously thought the eyes were just painted on his glasses. I was quite shocked when they blinked!
🤣🤣🤣 Yes, they look painted on the glasses!
I'll run the figures through the UNIVAC. That was the super computer of their day.
I saw one of the Triangle Ships, very close... a light under each corner,... So silent. HOVERING slowly...

15mins in Sorensen ponders "what if gravity is not a force?" - just finished watching Sabine Hossenfelder's recent science video "Gravity is NOT a force" - amazing!
Unfortunately, anti-gravity does not exist, and a paper was published in the British scientific journal Nature on September 28th in 2023.
Early sci-fi flick. Army wants to kill anything they can't control. Cosmic man was hilarious, looked like he just climbed out off a skip/ dumpster!. Enjoyed this . Thanks all. Dave
0:23 I'm comforted that P. W. Harris certified this movie for general exhibition.
Merci pour la traduction. Ce film a eu deux remake, "Le jour où la terre s'arrêta", et a du inspirer "Sphère" avec Dustin Hoffman.
I love the color changing cars
Isn't science great?
And hats and suits and everything else 😂😂😂🤣 should of let the movie in it’s original form black and white
There's some sort of writing on the sphere General. It says... Sunkist.
Apparently the colorist should have made it orange. That would also explain why Doris Day is in this thing.
Cosmic ,Spaceballs, Rocket Man, I said, " Hello to a lot of people who were watching this during live upload in the chat room at the beginning." But my puns and coherency quickly declined, and I missed the end and didn't get to say goodbye . Kind regards to everyone in the chat room 😀 ✨️
LOVED THIS MOVIE
Thanks
Excellent movie
Awesome movies they sure don't make those types of movies like that anymore! Good storylines and plot's!!

Encore un bon film de SF des années 50/60 merci beaucoup-petite question, vous n'avez plus les chasses du compte Zarrof ?
Yes the same thing exists today with the military if you don’t understand it KILL IT under the guise of self protection🙇🏻♂️.
Loved it!! TY!

Second time to watch this movie, it proves the point that I hold man fears what they don't understand and they will kill it to prove their point. Lets say this happens sometime in the future will mankind heave enough sense not to destroy what ever it is so they might understand who and what has come and to learn more about what is to come in the future. Pretty good movie.Scary without being really gory,or violent. And in spite of the Cosmic Man's apparent death, some good did come from hte encounter because the lady's little son was cured of his lameness. And Dr.Sorenson said that he(The Cosmic Man)would be back.I guess that maybe he meant that the cosmic Man wasn't really dead somehow;that only his human disguise had been inactivated somehwo. Was there ever a follow up,or Sequel to htis Sci-fi movie perjaps?I really would like to know, please?Anyway,a very good Science-Fiction movie that was pleasantly enjoyable without being too scary,or gory.Kudos!
I'm glad Cosmic Man is dead. Or seems to be, kind of. Anyway he's buck naked wherever he is, cause he left all his clothes behind. Public nudity (however brief) is a misdemeanour in New Mexico.
And don't forget. He did enter the kid's room, kidnap 'em and transport 'em across State lines. And all that's a felony in New Mexico. You get life for it. Unless yer dead already...
Don't think there was a sequel; I can't find one. Maybe now would be a good time for Cosmic Man to return when Kenny is an old man.
The love interest screams in terror when encountering the horrible cosmic man. What a plot twist. No one would ever expect a women from the 50s to scream. Good thing there were plenty of men around to deal with the threat.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Kills me that nobody did a thing to protect the handicapped kid when the Cosmic Man appeared for the first time in front of everybody. But the lady screamed so hard on Dr. Sorenson’s manly chest while being held by his arms… And next she’s composed and calm as a fresh daisy… 😂😂😂😂
