A simply stunning watch. The only question is, why doesn't Audemars Piguet make watches like this anymore? This is far superior to the endless variations of the Royal Oak and its uglier brother, the Royal Oak Offshore. Even the Code 11:59, although aesthetically better than the ROs, lacks the beauty of AP watches from years past. With this model, it's easy to see why AP are considered part of the Holy Trinity; with their modern offerings, it's harder to see how they continue to hold onto that honour.

The Code 11 59 is a good looking watch, certainly better looking than the majority of Royal Oaks, but it's the ugly red-headed stepchild compared to this mid-90s quarter repeater. AP have the ability and the back catalogue to make stunning dress watches like Patek and Vacheron, but they seem to concentrate on endless variations of the RO and then wonder why everyone treats them like a one trick pony.

I just wish AP would take a leaf out of Vacheron and Patek's decision to look back at their vintage pieces and make modern versions. That line... That line would move AP beyond their current malaise as a one trick pony.
