The BEST Southern Outdoorsman episode EVER!!! What a tactician and woodsman! We need more of these woodsmen wisemen to help us that are eager to learn!! Thank you!!!!
Mr. Worthington definitely comes across as a seasoned woodsman and an awesome teacher. Jacob you did good as well considering being put on the spot to such an extent in front of the camera. Great stuff guys, keep it up!
Excellent video! Two things made this video possible. 1. Wisdom of the old man. 2. Humility of the young man. It's obvious that young man knows how to hunt and listen.
Perfect example of age, experience and wisdom. Bobby KNOWS his deer hunting. Talking in the studio can be so confusing. Being in the woods lends to clarity. Thanks, guys.
Bobby is an original OG of big buck killing. Re-read his book almost every year. Love the stories of the bucks he hunted down in Bowhunting “Trophy Whitetails”
It is awesome a legend like Mr. Bobby Worthington is passing on his woodsmanship skills and whitetail knowledge. And thanks to the The Southern Outdoorsmen for sharing it with the hunting community.
Love the description of determining the difference between varmint vs deer trails. I always struggled with that earlier in my outdoors journey until I started really off-season scouting and marching entire trails. And once the trail leads to a coyote den, you'll start realizing things lol
Two wise souls here. One based on age, experience, and sharing his expertise the old fashioned way. The other for being willing to share his "learning" status publicly, to the benefit of many. Respect X2, seriously. PS for the record, I'm an aging Northeast college instructor who appreciates a good educator, which Mr Worthington clearly is. Hats off.
Guys I’ve listened since the beginning, and I’ve learned a whole lot, but this video has been one of the most educational things I’ve seen. Please. Please keep these coming!
Been around old-timers like this my whole life. Everything you say is wrong, or half-right at best, and everything they say is made up on the fly... and always right. I like the "you're thinking too fast, slow down... followed by the "it's getting dark on us, let's speed this up." just a few minutes later. 🤣 Love it... great teaching moments, for sure... great video man, keep em' coming!
Always carry a compass. When you scout and pick trees if you have a compass you can make notes on onx as to which winds will be good in what trees. I even carry one turkey hunting when im scouting for deer also. Super helpful for making exact notes on what direction a spot faces and what winds were good
How could you not love this guy lol. Classic good ole boy true woodsman. This kinda stuff really helps ppl. Lots of ppl talk about but ain’t really about it. Great episode
The discussion in the podcast was excellent, but nothing beats hands on experience. I wish he offered his class in video. Thanks for your time and work with him. I’m an older hunter and I relate so well to his “old school” wisdom and persona.
Experienced explanations like this are absolutely priceless. It’s unbelievably difficult to make up time in the deer woods, but learning from a master like this gentleman is a huge step towards success. Growing up with experienced “successful” whitetail mentors used to be the only way to gain woodsmanship and hunter knowledge. These folks and their shared bag of tricks is the tax new hunters must pay if they want to reduce the learning curve exponentially. I had many Whitetail mentors, some were generous enough to open up about their hard earned secrets, but this is the first I’ve heard of someone dissecting ground with such methodical scientific techniques. Thank you for sharing this, even though it’s basically an advertisement, because it’s valuable nonetheless. I will be reading the book; no doubt. Shoot em up this fall… -CY
@@thesouthernoutdoorsmen very, I hunt up in the northeast and pinch points are subtle due to all hardwoods and no crop fields , I struggle finding natural funnels because the land is open
Jacob what an amazing video. I sent Joe an email asking info on the scout class. I’m in Missouri but I’m definitely going to try and make it. A wealth of information just in your video. I can’t imagine a couple days of it. I also like how he puts it on you to talk it out and figure it out. Great stuff. I love to see videos like this. I like and enjoy his podcasts but everything he explains in the podcasts comes full circle showing it in a boots on the ground video. 10/10 on your channel for putting this content out. I have Bobby’s limited book ordered and am very excited to read it. Thanks Jacob!
Absolutely awesome. I'm 51 and started hunting in my mid early 40s. I still have yet to find someone willing to share knowledge like this. Round my parts they want to keep it all a secret it seems.
Been a dream of mine since i was a kid learning to hunt has been to meet mr worthington and talk hunting one on one ill definitely be booking a class with him just to pick his brain, epic episode fellas!!
I have listened to every podcast and watched every piece of content y’all have done with Mr. Worthington. I have never learned so much about specifically hunting and deer hunting strategy, stand placement strategy, etc. specifically regarding funnels in my lifetime. Everybody talks about funnels funnel this funnel that but now I have such a greater understanding. Really hoping to get into the class. You guys keep on rolling out the incredible content!
It's was so nice seeing a video of woods and what some of these people are seeing and thinking. This got me thinking and I'm excited. Also I'm not promoting it but Huntstand has a trail trace so I turn it on and walk all the trails in my area in the summer so that they are mapped out for me
Best channel on TH-cam for actually teaching the way of the whitetail deer. Really enjoyed this one and learnt allot! I don’t read books at all but I’m considering ordering his
This was great,I learned alot from this one, loved the scouting style video really helpful, thanks for sharing,Bobby is a different breed his brain must be wired different, they way he thinks and break something down in absolutely amazing
All the technology we have today can not replace this man's wisdom. When I started hunting, there was no internet, and hunting season was half as long as it is today. I'm thankful for the advantages of technology, but it will never give us the wisdom of boots on the ground. Get out there and walk it! Leave the technology inside and the ATV home. Thank you for the content!
Not at all what I had envisioned listening. I had envisioned deep deep ditch sides, looking for low spots as he explaining it on pad cast. I keep trying to apply it here, but I’m like, no mountain terrain. However, those woods are very similar to everyone hunting in south. Good stuff. Tks for the video
Some good information. An open woods like that, deer will wonder. Me personally i don't like to sit right on the trails that close. Make for a tough angle and harder to get both lungs.
I love to see an old timer get in the woods and pass on great knowledge that some would keep to themselves for many years or forever. That’s why I always listened to my dad grandpa and uncles even as a small boy. This stuff could be learned by yourself I guess but it has probably been passed down to that d timer and we all know by some of his videos he has killed tanks.
Whats the name of the book? And where can I get it? Always always always listen to the old timers. They are far better hunters than us younger guys. Hunting with no tec or anything special. Pure knowledge from just experience.
So this is my second year hunting and I went out scouting and I moved a lot of the down logs out of the way so I can make a clear path in front of my tree stand, I guess that was a decent strategy
You could use your tracking tool on your onX to walk out the trails and get an idea of where the closest points are. That’s what I do being a solo public land hunter
Look can I bring him to where I hunt and give me some advice 🤣🤣🤣 everything I have learned is from DIY. I haven’t had anyone show me how to hunt or how to find a spot I always just learn by videos like this and boots on the ground but would love to find someone like him to help me in real time in the woods to help me look at where I’m hunting
Yes, age and wisdom! I am 53 and to me it's sad that many, probably most hunters today are not true, wise hunters. Hunters today where I live in GA. would be lost without their bait and 24 hour surveillance cell cameras. It's legal but no reason to brag or show of what you got when it most likely would NOT have happened without all the technology. I still don't bait and I still get mature bucks, I refuse to take the easy way out like most people do. If I get a nice buck it's not because of bait and technology! It's just so sad to see what hunting or so-called hunting has become. I enjoy watching people that actually know their stuff!!!
The simple fact that this man has small tear on his right sleeve tells you all you need to know!!! Real, not for the camera! Experience can be faked, knowledge cannot be. Nice vid!
those woods are so wide open. I would never expect deer in something so open in south Mississippi. i would be looking for something thicker for them to travel through to avoid the open stuff.
I agree. Two things worth mentioning: 1. This dude specifically hunts the rut so he is getting the bucks moving a lot during daylight on well used trails. 2. This guy hunts in relatively low pressured areas and states. He would struggle to kill big deer using this method in the open timber with a state like Michigan or Pennsylvania.
@@thesouthernoutdoorsmen Heck yea thats awesome man..appreciate it fr.. This older gentleman defines the term "woodsman". There should be an entire series with this man's knowledge. A true privilege to listen to.
Love this kind of boots on the ground video. Like to see more videos like this. Even if you could do one on more flat land with swamps
We are focused on doing more like this! Thanks for watching!
