Lack of goal scoring power so often held them back. No other country in Europe lost so many players to foreign clubs, yet rose with a fresh crop of gifted youngsters. They had everything British teams lacked - but paradoxically, they lacked what the British had in abundance: aggression in the penalty area and players who could not play ‘real’ football to save their lives but knew where the goal was and had a knack of putting the ball in. Personally, I never saw a Yugoslavian side that did not impress me, in terms of skill and understanding and the ability to play ‘real’ football.
Scotland huffed and puffed but didn't have the guile to break down a well organised and technically proficient Yugoslavia, who weren't going to do anything silly and were quite happy to play for a draw. Bogicevic at 2.13 and 2.30 - what an underrated player, that boy was wasted on the Cosmos.
C'mon that does a disservice to Scotland. We were the better side and played really well, maybe not enough luck or a killer instinct in attack. However, Jordan was superb, it was Dalglish that was a bit flat.
@@Ruda-n4h I respect your opinion but still maintain we were a bit better that day. Still the Yugoslavs hammered Zaire 9-0 so I can't begrudge them qualifying for the Quarter Finals
Joe Jordan scored goals in three consecutive World Cup tournaments (West Germany 1974, Argentina 1978 and Spain 1982).

@@faddy24 I think it's a pretty fair assessment actually.

Like from me. Baku. Many thanks.
Yugoslavia was great 👍 team
never to be seen again
Scotland were a great team at that time too and should have won that game. 🏴
@@stephenlaing9224100% agree and we were the better team in the 0-0 draw with Brazil too.
Two good sides there.
Who missed the chance at 1:20? Jordan?
