In our English class our seating arrangement was according to our grades from best to worst. As this happened to be my best and favourite subject I did really well and had the seat of honour as best in class. This made me look really smart and hardworking to everyone else, little did they know I was dumb as bricks in literally every other subject lol.
For public humiliation in school, I've got three main events from my tenth grade year. So, I was placed in a homeroom class the year before this, that... well, it was the type of class you hear about in horror stories from your teacher. The 'You will never believe...' kind. And honestly, if I hadn't been there, I wouldn't believe. I'll take three fond memories from three different subjects, first mathematics, then physics, then chemistry. Now, for mathematics. Someone said that 1 + 1 = 1. We had this cos/sin graph drawn onto the board, and our teacher wanted us to alter the equation so that the middle points of the graph would be at 0, from where they had been at -1. Simplifying this, we needed to add 1 to the equation ( -1 + 1 = 0). Some genius got up and told the teacher that he was wrong, because, and I quote, " - 1 plus 1 is - 1!" The worst part, is that roughly three quarters of the class agreed. For physics, we were doing resistance, and the teacher (same unfortunate soul as in math) introduced it to us by asking us, "If I threw a metal ball forwards (in a straight line), what happens to the ball?", and you're meant to reply that it will land on the floor. One kid, he replied that throwing a metal ball forwards would result in it arching upwards and hitting the ceiling. We all stared at him in bafflement and the teacher just kinda went ".... wut." And so he tried to explain, he went on about airplanes, and how metal objects, when moving forwards, have to go up! Not any other substance, just metal. The bell rang and we left our teacher just standing there in despair. For chemistry, while our teacher was introducing Van der Waals forces to us, a different kid jumped away from the teacher, nearly falling out off his chair, and, when our kind chemistry teacher went to ask him if he was all right, accused her of "black magic" and "witchcraft". He wasn't even joking... So guys, whenever you feel particularly stupid or ashamed, remember my classmates, who walked out of these rooms with heads held high - ok don't do that part - and acknowledge that people make dumb mistakes. It happens, and you'll be ok.
