    It’s not just his numbers, but the timing when he hit those numbers. When you absolutely, positively need a (steal, 2 points, 3 points) for the win, he was there like none other.

    Dude,
    Those playoff scoring drop offs are because it’s about winning not scoring and you have arguably the best team of all time especially ‘86 = unselfish winners. Bird is the Goat.🙌🏽

  • @treggliebler6237
    @treggliebler6237 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    If you ONLY look at major stats, Bird was top 10 at best. Look at ALL the stats, the unselfish passing, the almost unbelievable court awareness, thinking one play ahead of all others and he is unquestionably the GOAT! And That's coming from an 80's bad boys Pistons fan who hated him for a good decade!

  • @mikelombard21

    Larry's passing is what I just marvel at, he was playing chess out there while they playing checkers. He's two steps ahead of everyone.

    • @BoilerBloodline

      Really he was two steps ahead everywhere but his athleticism limited displaying it.

    Outlet passing. I always said Bird would've been an all-time great NFL QB. Had every single thing it takes, arm talent, toughness, smarts, ethic, leadership/charisma, improvisation, vision/anticipation, icewater in his veins, unflappable confidence, sleight of hand, underrated athleticism... the list just goes on.

  • @treggliebler6237

    And don't say Larry was a natural with God given talent, he worked his ass off to become the greatest, practicing every day for hours AFTER practice. "I uses to do 700 jump shots a day, then I thought Magic's probably doing more, and shot 100 more"

  • @irishgrl

    Larry Bird IS MY TRUE GOAT 🐐!
    You missed the vid intro: Larry Bird was something the NBA never saw before, and hasn’t seen since. I think that’s significant. Nobody like him. STILL.

  • @jameylebel
    @jameylebel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    This is why Larry is the GOAT. He is a basketball genius. Knew the game inside and out and was five moves ahead. He would utterly destroy teams today. No one today plays to his total level. No one. With the three point line moved in, fouls if you breath on a player, he would be the best in the league today. Period

    Larry is really good at strategizing and being quick on his feet while on the court. That's some good skills to have as a basketball player. Plus, he does it so easily when you watch him play.

This should be a famous dirty play, but Larry is Larry. If you've ever had back pain, this is a lot worse than a Draymond kick in the nuts

  • @ShadowBanned904
    @ShadowBanned904 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Larry Bird is legendary for his scoring and passing abilities. What's often overlooked about Larry is he was a good rebounder and an underrated defender. He was slow and couldn't jump, but he was smart and more importantly, tough!

    • @pjs777s.8

      His vertical was the league’s average. Search YT for “Larry Bird athleticism” to dispel that myth.

    • @ShadowBanned904
      @ShadowBanned904 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@costumeninja1914 having actually seen him play, my eyes told me that he had a lower altitude earth orbit then most of his contemporaries. That's not to say that the soles of his feet were nailed to the court as witnessed by his hustle and willingness to dive and go after loose balls. I never said Larry Bird lacked agility. He way more then made up for his "average" jumping ability.

    The Magic /Bird era was simply the best in NBA History. The 1980s produced more Hall of Famers than any other era of the NBA. Bird, Magic, Akeem Alajawan, Jordan, Worthy. Wilkens Jabbar, Julius Irving, Isiah Thomas, Rodman, Ewing, and so many more. The NBA game today is a bore. Dribble around for 23 seconds, and then jack up a three pointer. Thanks

    Larry would play softball off season till he broke his fingers, what a day that was. We all went to the games to watch, he always killed the ball like Babe Ruth. The whole town went into panic that day, the Celtics came within hours, businesses closed, a bad day. But, the Celtics paid Larry a bonus on the spot, made him sign a contract not play anything other than bball, and I believe the Celtics even asked he not golf. The Celtics robbed us of a great softball player, I'm still upset!

    Larry is the perfect player, the only thing he didn’t have was elite athleticism which your born with. He is absolutely a top 3 player if there was anyone I would put above him it would only be Jordan. Look how good Larry is overcoming hardly any natural gifts.

    • @costumeninja1914
      @costumeninja1914 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Overcoming hardly any natural gifts? That statement is patently ridiculous. This dude was 6’10”, you don’t think that Hite is a gift? Also he had unreal coordination, spatial cognition, “awareness, and all types of intangible asset forms of athleticism like first step speed. His vertical coming into the league was the leagues average, the same as Karl Malone’s. So you’re saying that half the league is vertical was less than birds didn’t have any athleticism or gifts at all? Anybody in the NBA is a freak compared to the average Joe.

    • @evan-gi8cd
      @evan-gi8cd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@costumeninja1914 well aside from his height cause everyone in the league is 6’4” +. When I’m referring to natural gifts I’m referring to something that sets him apart from his peers. Like how lebron and mj and kd are just special. Larry wasn’t fast or quick or athletic or just strong like an Oakley/Ewing/Barkley. That’s what I mean. He didn’t have the natural gifts that the elite elite players have and he still found himself in the highest tier because of his work ethic to increase his skill and heart.
