    Referee was awful. Veltman kicks the ball at Rice so by "the letter of the law" the free kick was already taken!
    Also when Veltman kicks at Rice to take the freekick the freekick is taken at the wrong place! By the letter of the law the freekick should be taken where the infringement occurred!
    Selective referring ruining the game

      I agree I've been screaming it too. If Veltman had had a free kick in the opposition half and rather than hitting Rice it went to a Brighton player and he scored. VAR would not I repeat would not of disallowed the goal. The ball was stationary when he kicked it and would of stood as good bit of trickery to fool the opposition.
      The mind boggles, if he had thrown it at Rice, then fair play !
      The media is not talking about it at all, not even online ! Wrong wrong wrong !

    Veltman also didn't try to take the free kick from where he was fouled. Rice moved 10 yards away, Veltman kicked the ball toward him and then tried to take the free kick right next to Rice. Referee should have put Veltman back 10 yards and take it from there.

      Not true! He used his foot to kick the ball where it should have been taken against Rice and while the ball was moving he missed the ball completely so there was intent to cause harm. Even if using the parroting "letter of the law" the ball was not in a ready position to take a free kick. Just because the argument is Rice flicked the ball away that does not mean it comes anywhere near the offense committed by the Brighton player.

    • @innervisionjj
      @innervisionjj 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@AlexBTexas Actually no. No intervention. Rice left the scene of the crime which was where the free kick should have been taken. In fact, in order to take a free kick the ball must be stationary. Veltman's clear intention was to kick Rice not the moving ball. Correct decision was to restart the game with a free kick in the CORRECT position and with a STAITIONARY ball. Those are the rules not the ones the Manchester referee applied with help from his blind mates in VAR room. Many former referees have said the free kick wasn't legal and that means Rice could not have possibly prevented a quick free kick. Lineker. was right, so too many others. @@Nomans1971 please stop making stupid comments. Kicking ball away by intention when the whistle is blown and that too so far away is 100% an attempt to delay the restart. Also multi ball system is irrelevant, the play has still been delayed as an arsenal player could have quickly picked up the ball which was right at the touch line before he kicked it away

    Rice didn't boot the ball away. Stop comparing it to an incident like that. The ball was rolling in front of him and he tapped it, no free kick could have been taken. We all know this. Veltman played the ref and the refs lack common sense and fall for it once again. Never a red card

    I feel I don't see same kind of decisions against other teams as often, in recent years... I hope someone's counting lost points for teams in the prem over the last 4 years as I'm sure we'll be right up there consistently. The PGMOL definitely aren't... These refs should be in a league, where they get relegated or promoted by correct/ incorrect decision to division that effects them financially as the teams they have power over - no accountability. What is their KPI's they work too? I thought when Webb retired, refs would be less biased & VAR would be as virtual as Tennis.. Didn't realise VAR would just be 2 other refs watching a TV protracting angles on a screen with limited allowed interference...

    Football is becoming more and more pathetic with all of these pointless debates about referee decisions - the authorities should give referees much more power instead of hanging them out to dry all of the time - if Rice had been given a yellow for the second offence and then been sent off for the dreadful late tackle he did that earns him his first yellow then nobody would have said a single thing about this but the media instead just drones on and on about it encouraging fans to do exactly the same - crackdown on players petty behaviour - if a player tries to con a referee on the pitch and gets caught out then ban him for a month - that will stop that happening very quickly - it’s the pundits and the authorise who love all of this - it brings more attention to the sport but sadly it is actually damages it

  • @BjornWiese

    According to the letter of the law, the second yellow was "correct".
    BUT referees are there to ensure FAIR play. That is the whole point of being a referee. They should be neutral and enforce the rules of the game so that neither team can cheat.
    Every referee has a different style of enforcing the rules. Sometimes the same referee even has a different style depending on the game. But IN the game he MUST be consistent, otherwise it is unfair to one team, and as I said before, the whole point of being a referee is to make sure that the game is fair. If he is inconsistent, he is not doing his job properly. He is also starting to be the cause of unfairness in the game.
    In this game, the referee did NOT give a yellow card when the Brighton player kicked the ball away in the first half. Fair play. But as soon as he gave Rice a second yellow card (for a much lesser offence than kicking the ball miles away), the referee was making an unfair decision, even if it was the correct one according to the "letter of the law".
    This argument does not even take into account the fact that it resulted in a red card.
    So in this case, not only was it the wrong decision, it was outrageously stupid and unworthy of a referee in the PL. And anyone who says "but it was correct by the letter of the law, therefore it was correct" is equally stupid.
    Having said that, it was also stupid of Rice to knock the ball away. He shouldn't have done it.

      @jacobalexander4167 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      According to the letter of the law, its not, veltman had already played the ball, so, by the letter of the law, its a yellow to veltman for violent conduct and a throw in against arsenal
