    Thank you so much for such a helpful video! I've been unable to use my 800D properly for over a year as it was stuck on the video mode and unable to power off. It had been my primary camera for my TH-cam videos. Your video showed me how to access the power/mode dial and fix the problem (looks like some sand had got in and interfered with the connections). Really appreciate your help. Printable diagram came in very handy too 😃👍

    I probably just blew the fuse on my t7i when I plugged the wrong power supply into my battery eliminator. I was hoping for something that I might do myself. That is looking like a no and I am wondering whether it's even worth fixing. This looks like an expensive procedure and the damage might not be limited to a fuse. I'm going to call my camera store tomorrow and see what they think, but buying a used one is looking like the safer bet right now. Thank you for the video. It was interesting and well done but it also made me think I'm not going to attempt this.

      @@Thebobfactor Thank you. I am feeling a bit bummed right now. I was in a hurry because I hadn't gotten much done today. I pulled apart a time lapse set up and then I thought I better make sure I keep the battery eliminator and its power supply together so I looked around for the connector for it, found one that looked right and thought what are the chances that it's not the right one? I'll just plug it in and make sure it's the right one. Alas, the power connector to my Westcott strobe is physically the same as the plug to my battery eliminator and after I plugged it in the camera wouldn't power up. Before the days of USB connectors I was an electrical engineer and I remember looking around for a barrel connector standard to use with our product. I don't think there is one. So I, maybe more than most, shouldn't have made this mistake.
      FWIW, Wescott supply has the positive 16.8 voltage on the outer contact and the battery eliminator has the positive 8.5 volts on the inner contact. Nice. My guess is the camera might have survived if the voltage hadn't been reversed, Now it seems there's a pretty good chance that more than a fuse was destroyed.
      I've found a few use t7i's for sale in the $400-$500 range. I think I'm going to buy one of those. I wanted my next camera to be mirrorless but I'm not going to buy a Canon because of the no second party lens thing, and I think I'd like to wait for a while before I decide on a new brand. The probability is that I'm going to have a non functional t7i hanging around. If you think you might have any use for it, please let me know. Thanks again for the video. It was interesting and it worked to convince me I'm not going to try to fix this on my own.

      No, unfortunately I have not made any of the followup videos for this camera. I usually get my parts from eBay. For a power switch or other parts like that, you may have to purchase a used top unit for the camera. I do see a couple on ebay, they are in China though, so it may take a little longer to get it. @@Shizafon Ya, there's a good possibility that it's the main board. This particular camera doesn't have a separate power board like many other Canon DSLR's have, which make it easier to test the power on it. Everything is incorporated into the main board, which makes it almost impossible to test the power regulation part of it. One other possibility is that the power switch is bad. Hi David. Unfortunately I don't have any additional videos on this model yet. I still have it disassembled on one of my workbenches, but it will probably be a few weeks yet before I can get back to it. Looking at the top control piece though, I don't see any easy way to isolate the Live View mode button to determine if it is stuck closed possibly. The entire Power Switch / Mode Selector assembly would have to be disassembled and removed first. Does the Live View button feel as if it's working, where there is a definite click or bump as you push it in?

    Great video, my canon has an issue with recognizing the sd card when it has been put. What do you recommend replacing or troubleshooting

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you haven't done so already, try a different SD card first. If that is not the problem then look inside the SD card holder and see if there is anything at all down at the bottom where the contacts are. I have run into problems with the SD card before, where slivers or pieces of the SD card come off if you remove and replace the card frequently. The pieces prevent a good electrical connection and you may get errors with the SD card. If that isn't the problem, and you don't see any problems with any of the connectors on the main board, then you will have to replace the SD card holder itself. Unfortunately with this camera, the SD card is not on a separate circuit board that can be replaced independently, and it is incorporated into the main board. So changing out the SD card on this camera is a bit more expensive because you are changing out the main board.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi RORO. Are all of the screws stuck, or just a few? You can try using a JIS screw driver, though I've never used the JIS type on any of the cameras I've worked on. Supposedly a JIS screw head will have a small dot near the X in the screw head, but I have never seen any on the screws of the cameras I've worked on, and the Phillips head screwdriver has always worked well for me. Possibly your camera is using a JIS screw head though. Look for a small dot near the X on the screw head to tell. Also, the smallest JIS screw driver that I've seen is a #000 (3-ought), and I don't really know how closely they are in size to a #0000 (4-ought) Phillips head that the cameras use. In extreme cases where the screw head is stripped, some people have said that they put a small amount of bonding glue in the small X grooves on the screw head and then put a screwdriver in and let the glue set up. There is also some stuff on the market called "Screw Grab", but I have read mixed reviews on that stuff.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I doubt it. Not unless it got wet. I've never seen corrosion in a DSLR body, except when they had been seriously wet. It sounds more like a heat issue, with an IC component, or possibly even the CCD, getting hot after just a few shots, and then shutting down until it cools off. Does it eventually start working again after being off for a little while?

      There is a switch on the left hand side as you're looking inside the SD card slot that tells the camera when a card is inserted. Look and see if there is anything stuck there, such as a piece of plastic from an SD card. Also look at the end of the slot where there are multiple contacts and make sure that there isn't anything down there also. If you haven't already, you also need to try a different SD card.

      There have been a few times where I would have to put a fair amount of downward pressure on the screwdriver while only turning just a little bit. So far, I have never stripped a screw head out. Just make sure that your screwdriver is fitting the screw head perfectly though. If it ever does happen that you strip a screw head out, you would need to drill the screw head off, and then try to remove the remaining screw part after you have removed the panel that the screw was holding down. Easy-outs and other screw extractors have never worked for me on these cameras because the screws are so small.

    • @Thebobfactor
      @Thebobfactor  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@bigmaxluvzu I have used a few off brands and also a name brand like Sears Craftsman, that all worked well. The Craftsman is the one that I probably used in the video. You will want to take a very close look at the screwdriver tip though after using it for a while, or even after one time of trying hard to break a screw loose, and make sure that it isn't getting deformed or worn down or broken. That will cause a screw head to strip out very quickly. And be sure that you are using a #0000 (four-ought) tip. If the #0000 tip doesn't feel like it is going in the screw head far enough though, you may want to try one that is sized in millimeters instead, such as a 1.25mm head. This is slightly smaller then the #0000, and it may go further in the screw head and grab better. It can be a bit loose on some screw heads requiring a #0000 screwdriver, so you will need to be extra careful not to strip the screw head out. The 1.25mm screwdriver that I have is made by K-Wind.

      @Thebobfactor  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bigmaxluvzu I don't see a link or picture here, but if it's a #0000 then it "should" work. It will come down to you testing it though to make sure that it is going all the way down to the bottom of the slots in the screw head. If it feels like it is not grabbing well, then it's probably not going in far enough and you may need to use something smaller like the 1.25mm I mentioned. Something else that I should point out is to make sure that the screwdrivers you are using are U.S. Standard Phillips Head, and not Japanese Standard Phillips Head (JIS). The two are slightly different and the JIS will not go into the slots far enough. So if it has a "JIS" written on the screwdriver, it won't work correctly.
