I wish there was a voice line between Ivern and one of the more brutal human champions that goes along the lines of “I had an axe like yours once…mine was bigger” but he would say the second part very sadly reflecting on his past mistakes and the mistakes that person he’s talking to are making now.

Imagine a Runeterra Myths miniseries, with 20 minutes single stories about Ivern, Kindred, Bard, Janna and other "old stories" champions. It's never gonna happen. But just imagine
damn that sounds sick, definetly would help introducing people to league
It would be awesome, but I think that they want to reserve the ability to retcon many of those champions' lore, now that everything that comes out is supposed to be canon.
@@Darkprosper in that case it would be a great way to manage the retcons. Although I don't think most of the spirits and guardian champions are gonna be affected that much
@@Nicolas72617 I think that with Riot, big retcons happen with big events. We could get some stories after, but a retcon just for a story ? The payoff would be low for the price of setting a character in canon. As for changes, judging from what we got with Janna in LoR, I think that we could get some wild reworks.

Something I love about Ivern's backstory that it kind of feels like an inversion of the typical magical corruption you see in fantasy. Where a perfectly good or at least regular guy stumbles upon some ancient force and it corrupts his mind, body and soul into an evil supervillain (read: Brand). Here you have this villainous piece of shit bad guy whose defining feature is his cruelty and as he is about his regular old evil business, he gets totally transformed into something new entirely.
As for some people not liking his Freljord origin of cruelty, I honestly feel like it's the best option his character had. You either have a regular or good human get turned into this god-willow tree being, which is honestly darker and less fitting for Ivern than what we have now. Or you just have no transformation and Ivern Bramblefoot has just always been around, which is pretty underwhelming imo
Yeah I agree with you there Nick. Ive always seen Ivern more like an Uncle Iroh like character. An old man who's journey is over and is there only to guide and give wisdom to the young ones.
One of the things i love about ivern is his contrast to maokai, they are almost poler opposites, ivern used to be a cruel brutal murderer who eventually became a kind loving fun loving character. Maokai went from a nature loving kind happy character to a murderus angry vengeful one. And design wise they are different kinds of trees.

@@professorpengu502 about 530 employees at riot got fired with no warning. They are being compensated though for 6 months to help out for the time being. However the team for Riot Forge is dead so no more LoL centric games like Song of Nunu and Legends of Runeterra got its team reduced. That’s the gist but there are plenty of videos on it for more info.

The reason i found your channel was due to your video with rossboomsucks and been subed sense then, you got me into ivern and you got me to fall in love with ivern and ivern mid lane and every sense then he's been my main from 2020 when i started playing league to now, and your videos have only gotten better sense then keep up the great work with your content!.
In this trying times, playing the jolly champions like Ivern, Neeko and Lewis should be considered a form of government mandated therapy

I never knew the full story of Ivern and i love him even more. Like, I liked him before but now he is amazing. Plus, I feel like the Freliord is a place that has the most potential to be a peaceful character in tune with nature
Nicky i really feel for you mate, been looking forward to your Ivern review for ages and for it to have to come in the middle of this b.s. Really taken the wind out of my League fandom sails too. hoping to find some way to support the lost rioters going forward.
I get the whole "and then they just clicked" thing, that was me with Tahm Kench and I was taking him top lane LONG before it became a popular thing to do. Now it is the same but with A Sol, love the character, love the new kit, everything clicks.
Would you consider doing one of these for Skarner ahead of his rework as an homage before he disappears?
Although i really like his design and idea, i feel like ivern is a little bit of a hollow character. Also his ultimate is basically the same as annie wtf is wrong with that(in that tigers and daisy are both basically just big guys that attack, as in their structures are either same and they have the same form of attack )

I would love Ivern story between Ivern and Zyra ivern trying to convince Zyra not to cause harm, or a story about Nidelee or neeko just dealing with the casual whimsey of ivern. Perhaps ivern has met rammus? We know his lines hes met malphite, how why? I wanna know the story.

I remember when Ivern came out and I instantly started calling him Broccoli and how much I loved his story and gameplay but I had no idea how to play him in the jungle so I always went support. It works fine, not as great as other supports ofc but it was so much fun! Ivern really is my comfort character just like yours, I like that not a lot of people play him, makes it feel more special when you meet someone who actually plays him and understands him just like yourself. Still sad that he doesn't have more skins, he deserves more!

Here me out; ivern and udyr should have a short story where udyr is taught by ivern more about the peaceful side of nature. I know lee sin already did something like that, but ivern definitely would have been a teacher for the speedy oneshot man.

Your history with how Ivern became your favourite champion reminds me a lot of how when Braum came out and it just clicked. That champion changed my life in a weird way.
How come I JUST realised that Ivern is Iroh from Avatar?
That makes me love him more and wanting him to interact with characters that juxtapose with him.
Ivern was a champ I was always rather neutral on initially. Following your channel really warmed me up to the guy, making him join my group of 'love everything about these characters except gameplay'.
My only gripe with Ivern is that I wish the Godwillow was fleshed out more as a plotpoint.
The wise mystical tree
My favorite Ivern video will always be Necrit's telling of his story. I've teared up so many times listening to it.
Back when I was in university, I learned about the english artist William Blake, and the way he portrayed human growth (at least according to my teacher).
Basically we go from the innocence of youth to the bitterness of adulthood. But according to Blake, growth didn't have to stop there. We could regain that child-like sense of wonder and joy through emotional maturity and empathy.
Anyway, I always pictured Ivern as the embodiment of that idea. To me he represents the peace that awaits you when you reach true maturity

I feel the only problem for Ivern's past is that is almost nowhere to be found on game and voicelines. I think a couple of interactions with some of the more warlord or bloodthirsty characters where Ivern try to talk them out of theirs ways out of the goodness of his heart would help that.

unfortunately Riot is a company not a friend.
It sees people as numbers. Yet it has enough humanity to understand it has a following that hold it to this level.
They say they hear, respect and value us but everytime regardless of which company it is they fail.
I still remember Blizzard siding with the CCP on Overwatch when people were siding with Hong Kong.
Yet Blizzard went with the money since china is a big spender. Instead of base humanity and understanding that a whole people were about to be absolved of their freedoms and be taken by the CCP.
It's kinda cool to have a character transform into something and not try to become normal again

My favorites are Vex and Naafiri. I am not even a league zoomer, I was here for vel koz's release who is also one of favorite champions along with kled. Naafiri is really neat to me and also adorable despite being a knife dog, and Vex is in a similar boat.
I do hope they tweak his passive at some point like sharing exp and/or gold from camps or being able to have the camps fight with you would be very in line with the character.

Local barbarian cuts down tree, becomes tree hippie. Though, You know, now that I look at it, Ivern is kinda like "anti-Mordekaiser"
Mordekaiser is all about Iron and Death. Iron, while a naturally occurring element, is very artificial the way its used with Morde. Very hard, cold, uncaring and brutal.
While Ivern is all about life and the beauty of nature and such. Two very opposing views I should say. But perhaps thats just me seeing a connection thats probably not there.
Tbh I think Ivern is Runneterras version of Iroh.
They are mostly side character only there to share their wisdom with the main cast.
Wisdom which was born from experience and mistakes.
They are basically the same character.

I love Ivern, and I wish I would enjoy playing him... but I just really hate his W. The brush mechanic feels really awkward to use, it's weird for him to have a spell relying on auto-attacks, and it doesn't even feel on theme to me. If he had something else, I would very likely play him.

The stance that Ivern doesn't need his backstory isn't to say that he should be in the process of figuring himself out. It's to say that Ivern would be fine if he was just "Ivern Bramblefoot, the Green Father". If his story was simply, "He is the incarnation of the God-Willow and serves as nature's guardian while being a goofy, friendly father-figure to woodland creatures and also Lillia's great-uncle", most people would be fine with that. Tacking on all of that stuff about previously being a warmonger just feels like... unnecessary baggage. Ivern doesn't need to be a lesson on repentance and "discovering happiness by becoming a better person".
It's just as valid to have a character whose mindset is, "The sun is shining, birds are chirping. What more reason do I need to be happy?"

@@somo4227 Usually, telling the backstory removes the mystery, sometimes it's a good thing but for a character like Ivern, I think that it would make him less magical. It's better to leave some things up to imagination. They can tell stories about Ivern, but I think that they should be about his new self, not his former self.

@@somo4227 Yes, Shaco is a mysterious character. He isn't interesting though, because he isn't anything in the present. What Shaco needs is stories set now (in universe) so we care about the mystery, not a backstory. Same as Ivern.
