Erhai Lake, once called "Ye Yuze", "Kunmi River", "Xi'er River" and "Xi'er River" in ancient literature, is located in the north of Dali City, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is named "Erhai" because of its shape resembling a human ear. Although it is called the sea, it is actually a lake. It is said that because the Bai people have never seen the sea, they call it Erhai to express their yearning for the sea.
Erhai Lake is 41.5 kilometers long from north to south, 3-9 kilometers wide from east to west, with a circumference of 116 kilometers and an area of 251 square kilometers. The average water depth is 10.5 meters, and the deepest reaches 20.5 meters. Erhai belongs to the Lancang River system, with a catchment area of 2,565 square kilometers, an average water capacity of 2.82 billion cubic meters, an average water depth of 10.5 meters, and the deepest point is 20.5 meters. The water of the lake flows out from the Xi'er River, joins the Yangjiang River and flows into the Lancang River. There are Little Putuo, Nanzhao Customs Island, Luoquan Peninsula, Shuanglang and other scenic spots. "Erhai Moon" is one of the four famous scenic spots in Dali.
In 1981, Erhai was announced as a Yunnan Provincial Nature Reserve with the approval of the Yunnan Provincial People's Government. In 1994, with the approval of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, the Cangshan Erhai National Nature Reserve was established.

The history of the ancient city can be traced back to the Tianbao period of the Tang Dynasty. The Yangjumei City built by Nanzhao King Geluofeng was its new capital. Dali is one of the first batch of 24 historical and cultural cities announced by the State Council on February 8, 1982.
The ancient city of Dali was the political, economic and cultural center of Yunnan during the 500-year history of the Tang and Song Dynasties. In the ancient city, there are 14 key cultural relics protection units above the city level, carrying the historical culture, religious culture and national culture of Dali. It is the core area of Dali tourism. In October 2019, he was selected into the list of the first "Small Town Aesthetics Model".

A very beautiful area, a big lake, high mountains, a mild climate, I can really understand why the place is loved by many tourists. Erhai certainly & obsolutely is a beutiful site. It will be much more meaningful if this place is further beutify. Every beutification doesn't means that it will effect the greenhouse & environment but beutification certainly has positive affect on tourism or becoming the catchments location. What is most important is, its become a catchment location or areas. As far as the Economic activities of the locals people is concerned , then it is worthwhile & necessary to make it appealing year round. May be i talk more on this later.
