Very informative video. I am a digital nomad and currently on the road, my Wise account is my daily spending account but I use Starling for my main account where I keep my cash. With the exception of a few currencies, the exchange rate you get from Wise is always a bit better than the Mastercard rate used by Starling/Monzo/Curve/Chase/Monese, etc..from my experience. But the biggest advantage of Wise is that in most countries, you can use the account in the same way as locals use theirs, eg in Ukraine I was able to send money directly to someone’s debit card number, and in the Philippines I am able to directly transfer money to a local QR code e-wallet like local people, Saying that, if you are only going on holiday for a few days to a couple of weeks, a Starling, Chase or Monzo account is probably all you need.
@@AliASHTV I don't keept money in there because I use it for travelling not a bank account. As they're not a bank. But they supply bank details they have to follow regulations and laws from all over the world. So in other words one thing might be fine with your bank and won't be with them. So best kept for travelling and just getting paid if you're in a country on a working visa while travelling.
@@AliASHTV also want to add. Because they follow strict laws and regulations from all over the world and don't have access to information like a bank does. It takes longer for checks ect. @aussieexplorer5858 What is your assessment of how Wise rates regarding financial privacy? I mean versus banking at home. I travel half the year so I am finding Wise very useful, good value and transparent. However, as someone who in principle doesn't like informing the world's financial policeman (USA), and equivalents in PRC etc every detail of my financial life, I question whether privacy is up to the standards of one's home country regular bank.
**UPDATE**: the current maximum fee-free amount of Euro you can hold is now only €3000. Quite a jump from €15000. I found out the hard way, used to keep €14999 for this reason and all of a sudden they told me they’d start charging me. Now I hold €2999 😅
Quite conflicted on what to do with my Wise account right now… I’ve used the multi currency account since 2018 and while I find it extremely convenient for converting currencies, I’m not entirely sure the fees and limitations are worth it or not… The fees seem to go up every few months. Also neither of my other bank accounts charge foreign transactions fees anymore (one even reimburses foreign atm fees). They probably don’t offer quite as good of a conversion rate, but I need to put them to the test on my next trip side by side with the Wise card. There are so many factors to consider when converting currency so it is sometimes difficult to tell if this is saving you money, costing the same, or costing more. 🤷🏻♂️ It is REALLY nice having account/routing/IBAN numbers in a few different places. That is one of the biggest value props here IMO!
HI I’m wondering if I should use wise but I saw so many bad reviews in the app store saying that their account froze or their card got denied even though there was money. Did that ever happen to you?
My WISE card DID NOT WORK when I most needed it. After being in transit for more than 24hr, I arrived to pick-up a rental car, but WISE declined the payment. I called support but no one answered as it was out of their working hours. My purchase was within the card limit and I had 10x more funds than what was necessary.
Great review. I was confused about certain aspects of the Wise card and this helped. I’m definitely considering getting for my upcoming trip to Europe. Thank you from 🇨🇦
2:40 left: "It costs Wise money to hold large amounts of money" Counter-intuitive from a market perspective. Are you referring to the manpower cost of complying with national government regulations, and US pressure plus treaties that control foreign financial transactions? I mean, a million dollars (versus one hundred) in banknotes does take up more space in a vault but the same digitally does not. Please explain.
As an expat, I get paid through Payoneer and I am able to transfer payment to my Wise Card which makes it incredibly convenient. I assure you it's cheaper to make purchases through Wise when abroad and to make ATM withdrawals. My US Citibank credit card has a terrible conversion rate and charges about 3% foreign conversion fee. As far as ATM machines, if you use your home ATM card, you are basically wallet raped as the foreign bank will 1) charge you for ATM usage (can't really get around that even with WISE),2) use their own extortionist conversion rate, and then on top of that 3) your home bank will charge you for using your card abroad. With Wise card, you can forget about points 2 and 3. Wise always uses midmarket conversion rates. Just stock your multicurrency card with cash of the country you are visiting. I love it.
Yes, instead of giving them your bank account, you give them your wise account to deposit into. I will soon start receiving social security benefits and I will have it deposited directly to wise to avoid both government conversion to foreign account or if sending in US dollars, conversion of US dollars by foreign bank. The problem here is the horrible conversion rates. Remember, Wise is based in the USA. So, any checks, direct deposits, etc from any entity go into your wise account based i in the USA. Then you direct how to convert that money.
The card really sucks by the way. Everytime you load money onto the card in any currency they over regulate it. For example, you want to load some USD or sterling onto the card, they ask you for documents every single time. Documents like proof of income, payslips, tax returns etc. Almost for every single time you want to load money onto the card. Don't trust the influencers who are probably looking at sponsors.
. . . They got me for making 1 digital and 1 manual, they locked my account and told me to fund 51percent of what is already in my wise account, I cannot do this as all my money is in that account, they used the word fund and not do ? So any idea's how to get out of this
I just used the Wise website's calculator. If I deposit $3000 USD they take $18.19 USD just for the deposit to the card plus $9 USD for the card, and conversion ends up being $2972 USD of balance. Then, to withdraw the full amount in cash at the foreign country, I get charged 2% of the amount which comes out to about $60 USD. So, I paid approx $89 USD to withdraw $2912 USD in the foreign currency. Is this still cheaper than exchanging it at a currency exchange booth? I've seen booths charging no fee. I understand their exchange rate would be lower but if it doesn't add up to $89 USD, then isn't it a bargain?

Problem is a lot of small restaurants and 3rd world countries will not take the card and ya cant really use atm with out fees, can i get money out from the local bank instead ? Cant see not using or accessing cash easily. Charles Schwab still king for no atm fees.
One thing to keep in mind with a Wise Card that I learned the hard way - they are not accepted at stores and restaurants that only accept a Girokonto card. Also, I only get one ATM withdrawal a month for $100 which makes paying in cash very difficult.
At least for Europe, you can make 2 withdrawals in a month from any bank ATM. And above 200 euros, they charge a fee of 1%. This is usually more than one should need to spend in cash so it essentially becomes completely free.
With bank of America all you have to do when traveling is find out who is their partner bank in the country you are traveling to and usually there is no ATM fees!
@@shortfattoad7317 It is relevant. Wise charges fees after 2 ATM withdrawals, and has a very low cap on how much you can withdraw per month without fees.
Thank you for your time and posting. I'm on the fence. With a CC with points, like Saphire Chae, I get points with no transfer fees, and one free ATM withdrawal a month. So I don't get how the Wise card is better? More reviews. :)
thanks for the video mate. i’m from GB travelling south america where there’s various currencies but often USD. would you recommend using wise or monzo and should i convert my GBP into USD before spending or just use my GBP and let the app do the converting? any help is much appreciated
Very informative. Many people like the card or digital card, but I don't have a cellphone so can't even apply online for a card so for the little I spend overseas, I'll stick to my credit card and cash.
I sell digital products. A customer sent me money on wise. It is marked "receiving" on my end. What does that mean? Can I send the customer their product without fear of them cancelling the transaction?
May be I should have mentioned that I paid this surcharge of about 1,5% because the card was identified as a credit card by the terminal even though it is a debit card. I paid with a Turkish Ziraat bank debit card in the same cafe before. It also was identified as a credit card instead of a debit card, but never was it surcharged. That is why I thought that this surcharge attributes to Wise.
hi, i also have turkish ziraat bank and wondering how will i use this in Brasil.... so when you purchase something, how much the debit card (turkish) surcharge applied?
I am just beginning my overseas life next month. I applied and received my WISE card 2 days ago. It just seems that from what I have read, just load your Wise account with more than what you want to take out. Use your PIN at a local ATM and get the cash. I am from the US so I would be using a currency calculator to see how much 200 Pounds would be locally. The biggest thing is how to send money to myself while overseas
in your wise app, there is a button that says "add". if you have a credit or debit card from your traditional account back home, you should just be able to insert your information and transfer money to yourself.
"you currently can't make any cash deposits with the card and you can't use any credit on the card itself as well" (3 min 20) so.... what's the use then?
Thanks for the info. May I ask if i could use it, as a replacement for a bank account, and link it to my TH-cam channel, would this work or do I need a bank account?
I’ve got a question, my problem is that I live in Canada but I came from france and we don’t have the same system for the transaction, in France we need a RIB and in Quebec an “specimens chèque”. So I must have two accounts to receive transactions from my parents who helps me from France and by my employer in Quebec. I need an account that can do both

I use Wise but card was recently blocked. Despite providing all information. Now they are sitting on my money and after weeks and request for call backs or so nothing has happened. I consider this card to be of a very tricky nature even though the card worked well for 8 months. Now I am not endorsing this card due to trust issues and non-existing customer service.
Great video. ? I might have missed advice. I'm a euro ex pat and my biggest problem is making on-line shopping payments eg Amazon Spain or Germany. My UK account card just declines this. With the Wise card is this a safe, simple and responsive function. I am basically looking a daily life, easy to use, reliable spending facility. I do travel a lot using a variety of currencies. Advice appreciated.
My wise card was registered in US. What is the max amount I can withdraw from ATM in Malaysia? From the pricing table, do I follow the max amount and fee in the Malaysia or US region? Thanks.
My wise account have been deactivated. And wise never transfer back my money to me. My money just gone. I have no way to complain. Their customer service never answered my question. This is sad!
I'm just curious when you spend in like let's say Jakarta, or let's say Canada, do you tell the person at the store when they ask, to do the transaction in Indonesian Rupiah and Canadian dollars, or your own home currency? I imagine the purpose of this card is to do be able to do it in the currency of the country right, and incur as few charges on top of that as possible... right? Thank you for your help :)

The Wise website says it is free to add USD to the Wise card from my bank account using an ACH transfer. But what if I want to transfer money from the card back to my bank. Is there a charge for that? Or am I better off just using the Wise card as a debit card and charging money directly from the card in order to use up the remaining USD balance on the card
No. The wise card worked really well for me on my recent Japan trip. But they do charge a fee to transfer dollars from my bank account to the card. So maybe I misread their instructions. So I don't know if you can transfer money from Wise back to the account. I assume you can since they are linked. And I assume they would charge a fee. But I will let you know if I find out anything definitive. There is probably not much point in transferrring money back to my bank account, since if I want to use the money I can just buy something and use the Wise card. (So it was really just a theoretical question.)

Is it beneficial for someone who is not frequent traveller. However I do travel overseas once every year and usually travel to 2 countries during that trip.
Yes. There aren't any account fees you can just get the card and keep it until you need it. Even though I'm not a frequent traveller I use it because of it's convenience, there's no need to carry money around and I can just withdraw what I need when I'm within the country, no need to queue at exchanges and it's basically guaranteed that I'm getting the best exchange possible.

And it's not possible to set custom limits on the card. The daily withdrawal limit is 1500 EUR. If somebody steals your card they can withdraw at least 1500 euros before you realize it was stolen, possibly even more.

How do you like the new setup? I moved over the weekend but will make some more changes in the coming weeks :)
Thank god I've met someone who's going straight to the point what are these people have these so-called TH-cam programs a rant and rave On half way through the thing is before they get to the point not interested with the saying the beginning I understand just get on with it and God you are brilliant
Problem is a lot of small restaurants and 3rd world countries will not take the card and ya cant really use atm with out fees, can i get money out from the local bank instead ? Cant see not using or accessing cash easily. Charles Schwab still king for no atm fees.
actually if the local currency is supported by the app, then you can withdraw your money for free.
Thanks for the in-depth info..
would you be able to do a video .. requirements for a Canadian to open a business account?
I’d suggest to give an understandable example . Now you’re reading wise guidelines.
One thing to keep in mind with a Wise Card that I learned the hard way - they are not accepted at stores and restaurants that only accept a Girokonto card. Also, I only get one ATM withdrawal a month for $100 which makes paying in cash very difficult.
is there a better card as a European to withdraw cash in foreign countries? I just ordered the wise but now I'm doubting
At least for Europe, you can make 2 withdrawals in a month from any bank ATM. And above 200 euros, they charge a fee of 1%. This is usually more than one should need to spend in cash so it essentially becomes completely free.
Where do you live?
I think they raised the limit to something like $600. I had no problem using mine in the UK.@@unknownmovement
With bank of America all you have to do when traveling is find out who is their partner bank in the country you are traveling to and usually there is no ATM fees!
Who cares, that is not the same. The Wise card is the way to go.
@@shortfattoad7317 It is relevant. Wise charges fees after 2 ATM withdrawals, and has a very low cap on how much you can withdraw per month without fees.
Nice video. Thanks for the tip on the one-off virtual card number option for ‘first month free’ type subscriptions! 👍🏻
Glad you found it useful! :)
so if you use the card at stores, it will spend the local currency on your card first, right?
from my understanding yes
Thank you for your time and posting. I'm on the fence. With a CC with points, like Saphire Chae, I get points with no transfer fees, and one free ATM withdrawal a month. So I don't get how the Wise card is better? More reviews. :)
thanks for the video mate. i’m from GB travelling south america where there’s various currencies but often USD. would you recommend using wise or monzo and should i convert my GBP into USD before spending or just use my GBP and let the app do the converting? any help is much appreciated
This query is better asked to the wise customer support.
What is the fee each time you cash money at the ATM?
Very informative. Many people like the card or digital card, but I don't have a cellphone so can't even apply online for a card so for the little I spend overseas, I'll stick to my credit card and cash.
I am in nz and want to pay for accommodation in England I have pounds on my card but just giving my card details did not work. Any advice please
I have the same problem ordering something in GBP online. Doesn't work
I sell digital products. A customer sent me money on wise. It is marked "receiving" on my end. What does that mean? Can I send the customer their product without fear of them cancelling the transaction?
how do I transfer money from my USA bank account to my wise card?
May be I should have mentioned that I paid this surcharge of about 1,5% because the card was identified as a credit card by the terminal even though it is a debit card. I paid with a Turkish Ziraat bank debit card in the same cafe before. It also was identified as a credit card instead of a debit card, but never was it surcharged. That is why I thought that this surcharge attributes to Wise.
hi, i also have turkish ziraat bank and wondering how will i use this in Brasil.... so when you purchase something, how much the debit card (turkish) surcharge applied?
@@yutube5167 there were no surcharges on Ziraat debit card payments
I am just beginning my overseas life next month. I applied and received my WISE card 2 days ago. It just seems that from what I have read, just load your Wise account with more than what you want to take out. Use your PIN at a local ATM and get the cash. I am from the US so I would be using a currency calculator to see how much 200 Pounds would be locally.
The biggest thing is how to send money to myself while overseas
Is wise card available india?
@@pritishpradhan1999 I do not know about India. I am confused even about the US version.
How are you able to move overseas from the U.S?
@@savannahweitzel1335 Depends what country you are going to. Different countries have different requirements for visa.
in your wise app, there is a button that says "add". if you have a credit or debit card from your traditional account back home, you should just be able to insert your information and transfer money to yourself.
"you currently can't make any cash deposits with the card and you can't use any credit on the card itself as well" (3 min 20) so.... what's the use then?
according rule wise prefer spend within UK and not store more than 150 euro
Thank you for your insight. Got this card for travel.
I need an account that can do both
Not free. I was charged 7 Euro out here in Ireland. Received the card, but the card doesn't reflect in my account, so can't activate it. Please help...
Im guessing you can't use the card like a credit card when hiring a car. I was refused a car a while ago because i didactic have a credit card. I even offered to leave the excess in cash. Only reason im thinking of getting a credit card 😢
My girlfriend was injured while in Poland. Would the Wise card be a good way to pay the hospital bill there in Poland? What about purchasing her airplane tickets to travel from Poland back to the USA?
Can I use the wise card to pay my utilities and taxes in Italy by direct deposit using the conversion process
Wise will never deactivate your account without a reason, you did something you shouldn't
Well informative. If I am living in Malaysia and need to apply for the debit card, is there additional charges to pay on top of RM13.70
Nope.
What is the RM13.70 for?
Can you see your remaining AUD balance whilst spending on hotels, rental cars, restaurants etc whilst travelling in Ireland using a WISE card? The WISE card seems to mirror how the ING DIRECT Orange Everyday card I've used in the UK a few years ago. Has anyone out there had any problems using their Aussie ING DIRECT Orange Everyday card travelling through Europe lately?
Great vid and explanation mate
Wise card is not available in NV, US😢
Don't open the business account with wise "bank", we had our and our clients accounts suspended, the wise bank held our money for months till we got refunded. Note there are people who didn't receive their money !
And I get a revolut add before a video about wise👌😂
Hi, great video. I just have a question. I have my wise account. I need to transfer money to my son. Does he need to have a wise account also for this purpose, for just receiving the money? Thanks a lot for this video.
this was great! thanks!
Thanks Chris!
Hi, I'm British and my bank account is in the UK. I now live in Canada and transfer money on regular basis from my UK bank to my Canadian bank account. Can I transfer funds using the Wise card and if so is it the best way to transfer money. What is the procedure to complete transfer using the card. im a digitl nomad, im living in mexico but working remotly in the US, can i use the wise card to receive my tax refund by direct deposit?
Of course. I treat it as a regular bank. They have all the similar info for depositing/withdrawing cash.
Hi, before I use the wise card, how do i top up the balance?
that's my question as well.
@@debirichter5724hi. Have you figured it out? Wise offers some bank account details, you just wire the money from your normal bank into Wise provided account
Kudos. Well done. Do Wise card activities need to be through the phone app or can they be done online with a computer laptop?
So something that you could easily check on yourself, you would rather ask somebody if your laptop could do it! Here’s your sign!

Hi! nice review! can i use personal transferwise account in Europe for receiving payments from ebay, etsy etc.?
Anyone go to Japan using this card? How many merchants accepted this card? I ask because I hear Japan is a cash country. I just don’t know if that info is updated.
I have same question - did you get an answer?
(So it was really just a theoretical question.)
you can transfer from your card back to your account and it is relatively cheaper actually

Can you use the card to order online?
Hello I have a question please , when I ordered my wise card I paid 9 euros is that cash on my card or is just the sending fee only ???
Some credit card don’t charge foreign fees.
Can this card be used to withdraw local currency? Is there any transaction fee?
If the card is stolen and you have £100 and the thief try to use £5000 of the card , is it possible to go overdraft ?
Is it beneficial for someone who is not frequent traveller. However I do travel overseas once every year and usually travel to 2 countries during that trip.
Yes. There aren't any account fees you can just get the card and keep it until you need it. Even though I'm not a frequent traveller I use it because of it's convenience, there's no need to carry money around and I can just withdraw what I need when I'm within the country, no need to queue at exchanges and it's basically guaranteed that I'm getting the best exchange possible.
2 withdrawals/month with a limit of $100? That's coffee money in some places. I see very little incentive for this card.
Awesome review, thanks!
Australian here, used the Wise card in Thailand but will be hit up 180 - 220 Baht per cash withdrawal...plus currency loss no doubt.

Is there a monthly fee for a Wise account or Wise debit card?
No
When you say 2 withdrawals a month is this per 30 days or calendar month . Thanks

Can I pay for my $9 fee for my Wise Card with my Venmo debit card?? Please need answers
Why not Visa?
No mention of security? Will Wise replace your money if the card is stolen and used?
And it's not possible to set custom limits on the card. The daily withdrawal limit is 1500 EUR. If somebody steals your card they can withdraw at least 1500 euros before you realize it was stolen, possibly even more.

Do you happen to have a video about opening a bank account in an EU country for a US resident? We are planning to travel extensively in Europe, perhaps as long as two years and I assume that this would be useful for things that you simply can't do with a debit card.
I don't think it matters where you are, i've been in cyprus and have had the card for more than 6 months . I use it for everything since I don't have a traditional bank account. it really doesn't matter where you are.
